My good friend lives in this neighbourhood. He told me about his local Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM). I…read moreremember going eons ago. A couple of Saturdays ago, I was heading home from the east end of Toronto. I needed a drugstore and remembered this one and decided to pay it a visit. When driving northbound on Woodbine Avenue, you turn left just before you hit O'Connor Drive to get here. There is plenty of parking in front of SDM. I backed into a spot steps away from the entrance and walked in. At first, this store's layout looks the same as most newer SDMs. You see the beauty boutique first. I looked at all nail polish colours. The variety was great. The vitamins section was nicely organized. There was a sale going on. No complains. Travel items and tech accessories are decent. With the latter, it favours Apple products more, which can be a bit of a downer for Android users. I rarely give any SDM a glorious review, but this store deserves full marks. What sets it apart from others is that it has a mini grocery store. It was my first time experiencing an SDM with fresh produce and more. I wish that Markham had this grocery store subset in any Shoppers. I'd be happy. I reckon that we don't because we don't have a 24-hour SDM. This store is open around the clock. The bread section was awesome. It featured Ace bakery items. I loved the produce section. Everything looked fresh. It was like being in a mini market. I saw T&T bakery goods. They were mainly almond cookies, but I was thrilled to see them. There's even a meat section. Wow! The extra thick-cut bacon was eye-opening. I think of those working rotation shifts and how great this store is for them. I ended up getting a few items: - Armstrong herb garden cheese in stick form - Cucumber Lay's chip - Chicken caesar salad The only weird thing was trying to pay for groceries at the self-checkout. It doesn't work well if you scan the barcode on food. I got an error. Instead, I abandoned the rigidity of scanners for a human being. She was great. I scanned my PC Optimum barcode and then paid with a debit card. Done! I thanked the woman and headed out with my goodies. I had the chicken caesar salad for dinner. I loved that there were separate trays for the lettuce, cheese, croutons, and chicken. You essentially put everything together before you enjoy your salad. It was super fresh. I was impressed. So much for the brief healthy kick. I had half the bag of cucumber Lay's while watching the hockey game a couple of hours later. Delicious! I love cucumbers and to have that subtle flavour captured in chips was brilliant. I ate the rest of the bag the following day. The Armstrong herb garden cheese are sticks that are individually wrapped. I normally don't crave eating cheese on its own, but I love the herbs in this cheese. Delicious! This SDM has a post office. It was doing swift business when I was here. I love this drugstore. I look forward to dropping by again when I'm in the area. (189)

In mid-August, I was in this area and was parked in a parking lot under this Shoppers Drug Mart…read more After spending time eating and shopping in this neighbourhood, before I left, I dropped by this drugstore to check it out. There was a panhandler sitting in front of this store. I never have change on me, so I never can help that person out. This SDM has two floors. Naturally, I saw stairs and walked up them. I then realized that it has an escalator going up and an elevator. I could have saved some energy. Ugh! The main floor has beauty products, refreshments, the checkout area, and more. I was more interested in getting snack items for a work potluck the following day, which was why I almost immediately headed upstairs. The second floor does have a decent grocery section. You can get fresh produce and drinks. There are frozen foods, including boxed meat, seafood, and pizza. You can also find a good selection of cheese and dairy products. Coffee, tea, cookies, and ice cream are all on this floor. Maybe it was a good thing that I walked upstairs, so I could walk off what I was about to indulge in! I found some nachos that would be perfect for the hummus that I was bringing to this potluck. I grabbed a bag. It took a while for me to leave the second floor. I loved everything from the Squishmallows and vitamins section, to the travel items and pop varieties. I paid for my items downstairs. I ended up doing the self-checkout kiosk. I scanned everything, including my PC Optimum card. I then paid with my debit card. Done! It was nice to visit this SDM. I have only been to two SDM stores with two floors in my life. There are pros and cons, but this one was great. (386)

I got there 15-20 minutes early and I was the first one to get seen for a test. The pharmacist, Katie was super nice and was the only person in the pharmacy when I got there. She got my paperwork and all the supplies ready while I was at the counter, and I was taken in to a small room to get my nasal swab test done. She told me that the results will be ready in 15 minutes so, I walked around and up and down the 2 storeys while I waited. Shelves were neatly organized. They have magazines, a little bit of grocery items including fresh fruit, lotions, creams, makeup and other things you'll typically find at a pharmacy. There are stairs, an elevator, and escalators. I came back to the pharmacy (2nd floor) and there were 5 more people waiting to get their COVID test done 2 of which didn't have an appointment and were demanding to get tested because they do it all the time at this particular location without an appointment. Oh, the entitlement. How hard is it to make an appointment online?! At this time, 2 pharmacists are now behind the counter. The appointments are scheduled in 15-minute intervals. The other pharmacist was explaining to another customer that her flight (to a country that requires test results no more than 24hrs old upon boarding) is not until more than 24 hours so she needs to get her test done the next day but the customer was insisting she needed to get her test done that day. Both pharmacists remained calm and collected even with these difficult people. When all that nonsense cleared out, I got my results and went on my merry way with 6 hours before my flight had to leave.
