IMHO I always get a henna or jagua temporary tattoo when I'm in Maui. I had difficulty finding an artist and/or the price I wanted to pay before the end of my trip. Thankfully, I found Mir or Nir at the Henna Lounge at the Kihei Kalama Village, one of my favorite places to cruise and shop! I always choose the same tattoo and had a picture as reference for him. I asked how much it would cost, and he quoted $35. It was still more than I am used to paying for this small hand tattoo, but since it was near the end of my trip, I decided now was the time! (Normally I pay $20.) Mir and I had a nice chat while he created my tattoo, in this cute little comfy studio. My daughter and her friends walked in a short time later and also decided to have a tattoo created. My tip for your tattoo placement is to choose an area where there will be minimal bending. I had mine on the back of my hand and the design crossed the skin where my wrist bent. If you accidentally bend it while the design is drying, there is a good chance it will bleed. Mine did, but Mir fixed it. Next time, I will have the design moved up a little bit. Mir was a delight and very accommodating. read more

Clean place, nice AC. Thats 1 star! $50 for a non henna ink. All stencils are printed and traced. THEN once dried and you see there are no details. And it was gone in 5 days. I came here before when it was owned by a woman, traditional henna, was so fun! The quality is so bad. Please do not come here. Save your money. No joke. I've come here multiple times and always had a good experience but unfortunately can't say the same this time... I was charged $89 for this which felt a little high but I would have been fine with it if it came out correctly. He used a ink stencil to trace the design and I think the ink has still -- three days later not come off. It's not only smeared the design but is also rubbing off onto other surfaces and skin (I slept on my hand today and have this design on my face now). On top of that the henna design itself is very shakey looking and not clean at all. Also side note: I get henna often so I know how to properly care for it. I let it dry and cared for it just as directed. Over all unhappy with it. I don't normally feel like a refund is warranted but I really do at this point. read more

Hennas are always fun to get especially if you cannot commit to a tattoo. We searched thru Lahaina Shops as there were several shops around dedicated to Henna. The first Henna shop we stopped at wasn't even busy and the girl unfortunately seemed uninterested in answering our questions and just plain lazy. We were determined to find a good Henna artist and as were were walking farther down we came across this amazing shop! Mia was our henna artist. Henna Lounge is a great place for you to get henna. Once I walked in they were ready for me, but I am not sure if it always is like that. There are many henna designs you can pick from which was really cool. Here is some info if you do get your henna here: -The henna drys off pretty fast about 1-2 hours. -I would recommend for you to dry the henna there, my family and I had dinner right after this and the henna kind of got ruined. -You can go in hot water but just know it's going to take your henna off faster. Had a great experience here with the owner of the place. Picked out some cool Henna. You can tell she's been doing this a long time she worked fast but was very precise. Had to wait for the Henna gel to dry before we could go anywhere else , don't be in a rush if you are going to stop in. Sometimes she had a big line so there was a waiting list at one point but she got through everyone. Picture is my tattoo the next day. I came in to try out a henna tattoo before I get the real thing. There was no one there when I arrived so I was helped right away. I showed the artist a picture of the design I wanted. She did the design free hand! She was so talented. My design was simple but I watched her do a more intricate design while I waited for my tattoo to dry. My daughter has been buggin for a henna tattoo, so while we were cruisin Lahaina, we met Desi who was opening up shop. We stopped to look at the many books of examples and chatted a little bit with Desi about the process and what to expect. She made my daughter feel so welcomed and comfortable. The shop has henna tattoos all over and you select one yiu like off the wall and flip it for the price on the back of the picture.
