My family and I had one of the most upsetting experiences we have ever had with law enforcement…read more We had already decided to leave the hotel because the air conditioning was not working anywhere in the building. We had paid for six nights, but we were packing our belongings and preparing to check out voluntarily. Instead of helping to de-escalate the situation, the responding officer repeatedly threatened that I would go to jail unless I left immediately. I had already made it clear that I was leaving, yet the same threat was repeated over and over again. The officers repeatedly knocked on our hotel room door while my children were inside. The entire situation frightened them unnecessarily. My children witnessed repeated threats that their mother would be taken to jail, and it was an extremely traumatic experience for our family. By the end of the incident, I was emotionally overwhelmed and suffered what felt like a nervous breakdown. I could not understand why a situation involving a cooperative family that was already leaving the property had to be handled in such an intimidating manner. I respect the difficult job that police officers do, and I understand their responsibility to enforce the law. However, I also believe that professionalism, compassion, and respectful communication are essential qualities for those who are entrusted with protecting the public. Unfortunately, that is not what my family experienced that night. I sincerely hope this incident is reviewed so that other families, especially those traveling with children, do not have to go through a similar experience. A very good example is of their leniency of major traffic violations of folks who drive expensive automobiles and live in pricey neighborhoods. The CCP has zero problems pulling over teens on their way to and from school for speeds slightly over the limits. As soon as school is in session the traffic speeds up to 10-20 mph over the speed limits. Specifically in the Huguenot/Robious intersection all the way to James River High School. Tailgating is at an entirely different level in Chesterfield and could easily be enforced instead of search for the less enfranchised driving less expensive vehicles. I drive using a dash cam and have dozens of videos of CCP vehicles violating traffic laws (running red lights and stop signs, speeding with lights on to avoid stopping at red lights only to turn the lights off when through the intersections, cutting off other drivers, tailgating, blinding drivers with excessive bright lights of drivers being pulled over and more dangerous drivers passing by,....) all while not in pursuit of anything or anyone. Aside from the traffic I have encountered some of the most rude and obnoxious officers who should be working flipping burgers NOT carrying firearms. I could easily go on for hours at the incompetences of CCP but perhaps it just may be more appropriate to pay attention to these Keystone Cops set to "protect" us.

I even brought to his attention that another car was right next to me that lacked a front license plate as well but the officer was laser focused on me. The Lt. even told me the officer was doing what he was supposed to be doing as they received a grant specifically for stopping citizens that don't have front license plates. I found this unbelievable as in a city with such a high violent crime rate that any grant money should be spent on keeping citizens safe rather than trying to generate income with stops for no front plate. But again this stop was because this officer saw a young black man in a nice car and thought I had drugs in the car.
