They take all of our concerns very seriously and have been extremely supportive during our struggles. Whenever we are in crisis, they have us in by the next day. Availability has been a past issue with my other doctors and it's something they take very seriously. I truly could go on forever about how impressed my family has been by this office. They TRULY have been a great blessing to us. I refer them to everyone who might be looking for a psychiatrist. Sincerely, Michelle H

Apparently if you question her diagnosis after years of failure, you lack incite and therefore have mental illness of her prejudice. I stop seeing her and have had a few psych's after her and finally am better under a different cluster of disease categories. Maybe it was covid or maybe it was her lacking incite into her own ego. Sometimes one diagnosis doesn't work better than a list. I'm glad I found a new psychiatrist that listens and doesn't gaslight. I wanted to write a formal letter from my lawyer but it's literally not worth it. Medicine is a practice; hope she improves.

Finding a good match in a therapist can be very difficult. Over the years, I have been to quite a…read morefew therapists but never felt I really connected with them -- or they with me. There have been some I liked as people, but in terms of a therapist, so many have just missed the mark. They either had their own agendas or they really just didn't listen to what I was saying. (Or, in my younger days, the fact that I wouldn't say anything.) This is not the case with Ginger Houghton at Bright Spot Counseling. I have been working with Ginger for a couple of years now. Her approach is very gentle and accepting. I've never felt judged or shamed, and she is generous with her sprinkling of kind words and praise. One of the best things Ginger did for me was recognize -- and label -- my anxiety. While I knew I was anxious, I'd never had a professional put a name to it and then offer a real, solid method to deal with it. She suggested medication but without judgment; she did not say "You should be medicated". Rather, she approached it gently, saying, "I don't know how you feel about this, and some people are definitely against it, but meds are one way to go." This is Ginger's approach -- it's gentle, and made through suggestion rather than through directives. She never says "Do this!", but rather, "What do you think about this?" Or, "What would happen if you tried that?" She never judges -- just suggests -- and she gives me the space to reject her ideas without feeling that she's rejecting me. Working with Ginger is truly a two way street; she listens, she asks questions, and she lets me ask questions. She doesn't have that stand-offish aura that some therapists have; rather, going to see her is like going to visit a friend, except that all the attention is on me. But, unlike other people I've been to, Ginger is willing to reveal a thing or two about herself, which makes it easy to relate to and trust her. Bright Spot Counseling offers many different methods of therapy. So far, I have just done the regular talk therapy, but once the weather gets nicer, I am planning to venture into (out to?) the walk and talk therapy. Just the fact that they recognize that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all proposition demonstrates how in tune they really are with their clients. Bright Spot Counseling truly is a bright spot in my life.

I know Dr. Sendi has died, but I'm sorry I didn't review him before his death. Thirteen years ago,…read moreI had a VERY negative experience with my 13-year-old son and Dr. Sendi. I went to him for urgent help with my son's disrespectful behavior, and he didn't help. My son went to his facility every day. They evaluated him as an IQ of 42 and said this test can't be wrong (my son has above-average intelligence). One day, when the workers couldn't get him to come inside and stop throwing gravel at the building, they called the police. They ended up telling me that if I didn't take him to the psychiatric in-patient facility nearby, they would have my parental rights terminated for not obeying them. While there, Dr. Sendi never spoke to my son (he's too retarded). So he never found out how intelligent he is. When we had follow-up appointments, my two grown daughters came to them. At our last meeting, I specifically requested a meeting with just my son and I so we could work on our issues. He invited my daughters in and, even though I asked several times, he left them there. So my son and I never got a solo meeting, and my son never spoke to the doctor. When I asked for a transcript of the test results and treatment, he literally screamed that they'd already been sent to me, but when I spoke to his staff, they said, "He knows it takes longer than this to get them typed up!" When I next called to see if they were ready, he said I'd have to come in and pay for a session (without insurance, which I couldn't do) to get them. His staff always was sympathetic, but he kept doing and saying things that were counter to the Michigan standards brochure they'd given me. I was very intimidated by him and waited too long for an apology or justice or something. I cannot believe we were the only people he treated this cavalierly. But those rave reviews by peers???? Maybe they didn't know what he actually did; just what he said.

DON'T TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE!…read more My complaint is a laundry list of issues that have happened throughout my son's treatment program at the New Oakland Adolescence Family clinic. On March 22nd, 2018 my son had an incident at school. His current therapist recommended New Oakland Adolescence Family Clinic. Due to the nature of the issue he experienced at school for being such a young age (9 years old), the topic and call to the facility was highly sensitive for my family. When I called the facility, the first person to answer the phone was rude and made comments like "whatever your son did" or "for whatever issue he has going on" and kept transferring me to lines where I had to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone to do intake. When I was finally able to talk to someone at 4:59pm, a women answered the phone, asked me a few questions and then hung up. When I tried calling back (at 5:00pm) to get my son admitted to this program the office was closed and I was unable to do anything. I did submit a complaint online and a very nice director called me and was able to get us admitted the next day. When my husband and I took my son to the clinic the next day the office staff were unorganized and ill prepared. The dark haired front desk attendant was not helpful and didn't' ask if we needed help and went about her business. We had someone do our billing that said "sorry, I'm not good with math can you calculate this" to my husband and I. She kept getting our balance wrong and said "I'm just a therapist, I don't do billing". That didn't leave us feeling great considering we were paying our deductible ($1500 OOP) and a percentage for each day. A specific billing person should be dealing with billing issues, not someone that isn't familiar. We met with a women, Angela that did our intake and was very thorough about what we were going to expect, the next steps, etc. As the days went on my son went to this facility and each time we would drop off or pick up no one would greet us or assist in any way unless we went out of our way to see how his day went, etc. I requested that we would get full reports on him and each time the response would be "we called". This is 2018, I don't think each time someone calls that my phone would just not receive the phone call or voicemail. My son met with a psychiatrist and we had no awareness of the conversation or resolution of this conversation. From there it went downhill. Our expectations from our initial intake were "a full psychological testing, blood work, full reports, a family visit, etc." and those were all not met. I asked 3 times about the full psychological testing and each time was told someone would follow up. I still don't even know if he's had one and if he has had one, I don't have the results. I had to take my son to get blood work at Beaumont because they couldn't do it at the facility since he said "no". The blood work is to check different levels because of the medication he is on. One of the levels are to check specific amounts to ensure he doesn't grow boobs as a boy. There's a ton of lawsuits out there regarding this and my son has yet to be checked for this. I asked the front desk, my son's therapist, and the doctor if they received it and each time was told no but they would look into it. To this day I still don't know the results of his blood work and if there's anything alarming for him to be on these different medications. I received a call on the first day that my son was trying to run away and was locked in a bathroom. The women that called me (unknown name) told me that if his behavior continued he would not be allowed back to the treatment program. This is a behavioral health facility that admits children for the exact thing he was doing including suicidal conversations, etc. When I told the women this she said "I'm sorry but he won't be able to come back". When we did intake and talked to multiple different people we made it very clear of what he was experiencing and why he was needing to be admitted to the facility. My husband and I met with this therapist named Mrs. Kelly who was in my opinion not prepared. She does not belong in a therapy session. I, Aydan's mother, had to drive this session when were told day 1 that we would have a family session to go over everything and to discuss further steps. Within 5 minutes my husband and I had enough. The therapist told me that my son was great and has had no issues so she couldn't really help me. A few days before that therapist my son tried running away and was locking himself in the bathroom. The communication between all the staff was incredibly poor. When asked how long he should stay at the program she said well...it depends on who you ask. Some say 7-10, I say 10-12. This is unacceptable. The lack of communication and organization is bizarre to me. You're dealing and working with mental health patients.
