I am posting this as a precautionary warning so that no one else may go through what I have gone…read morethrough with Alan Morton.
Mr Morton is a liar, fraudulent, incompetent, incredibly rude, and mentally incapable of functioning as an attorney. Mr Morton and I met regularly, after he took on my personal injury case. It became quickly apparent that Mr Morton was incredibly unorganized and had no ability to retain information whatsoever. We met once to twice a week, and he would ask same questions every single time we met, and ask for me to turn in forms I had already turned in.
This perpetual process was complicated by the fact that Mr Morton is almost impossible to communicate with. Even though he would ask the same questions repeatedly, I would play along and attempt to answer the questions. It is rare that you are able to get a question answered before he will cut you off with an angry reply such as "just answer the question!" while the question is actively being answered. Communication is a key part of my job, and I am very capable of communicating in an effective, concise way. However, there seems to be no way to do so with Mr Morton that doesn't result in being interrupted. He is incredibly condescending and insulting in everything that he says.
There came a point in my case where Mr Morton simply became unreachable. He wouldn't answer my phone calls, or emails over the course of 5 months of repeated attempts.. I was forced to visit his office, where I couldn't be ignored in person. When we interacted in person, he attacked me with a barrage of insults, as I've learned is his defense mechanism when he is in the wrong. I had become used to this sort of behavior. He went on to tell me that we had talked on several occasions over the last 5 months, in which he told me X, Y and Z. These are all blatant lies. We had not spoken a single time. When I interrupted his barrage of lies, he lost control, and yelled "Don't interrupt me!" when I reminded him that this is HIS standard behavior, he lost control and began screaming "shut up! shut up! shut up!" like a child throwing a tantrum.
While this account sounds ridiculous, I'm sure, it is the truth. After I dared to tell him that he interrupts me, he proceeded to tell me to "get out!", and that he's "done with [me]". He is a childish ego maniac who can't handle not being in control. While I do acknowledge that this is probably not terribly uncommon with lawyers, the incompetence, lack of recollection, disorganization, and lies present a picture of a person that should not be in practice. After he disassociated himself with representation of me because he couldn't handle being wrong, he sent correspondences to me, two physicians, and the party I'm working against in my case, containing lies upon lies of conversations that were never had.
I write this as an attempt to save people from going through what I've gone through. 8 months of my life has been wasted. He also forgot to file for an extension during the time that he went AWOL on my case, and may have permanently destroyed my case in which an employer has truly been negligent.
Please don't let this happen to you.
