My recent stay at the Herald House was very satisfactory. The hotel itself is in a charming old building, nothing too fancy. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were a decent size for Europe and the bathroom was very small (shower only, no bath). The room was clean and had all of the regular amenities (tea/coffee maker, tea/coffee, hot chocolate, hair dryer, TV, soaps, shampoo, etc.).
They have a lovely little garden/courtyard area to hang out and a self serve bar/snack area (you write down your name and room number when you take things). There is a lift, which can be helpful if you have a large bag since the rooms are all on the upper floors. My favorite thing about this hotel was the breakfast that was included with our room. Every morning they had a buffet style Scottish breakfast (eggs, sausage, bacon, haggis, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, cereal, toast, jam), it was tasty. Also, they have computers on the first floor where you can surf the web for free. They do have free WiFi, but it didn't always seem to work.
Overall, it was a good basic hotel and I would probably stay there again. read more
