This is a small but good used book and euro style game store. I went there for the games mostly. They don't have a ton of shelf space but every box on the shelves is different; there were probably 50+ games. In addition to being knowledgeable about the games, they also have some items which are hard to get in the US. In particular they had 6 Nimmt which I had to pick up on a vacation in Germany because I couldn't find it in the US. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff. A vast used book section, and an impressive game collection. I have looked for only a few books from a less well known fantasy author and was able to purchase many of his titles at Here Be Books & Games. Furthermore, the prices for the used books are more than reasonable. I have yet to take advantage of the trade-in credits by bringing in books of my own, but it seems to be a great deal. I play board games much more than I read lately. The availability of new games is extensive. Not only are the flavor of the month, popular games readily available, but there are plenty more to choose from in all genres of tabletop/board/card/etc. gaming. I have found that I can alert the owners and staff of what type of game I am interested in, and they can point me in the direction of games that are similar that I hadn't heard of. In the event a game is unavailable, ordering one on the spot is easy and fast. Additionally, the store maintains an enormous library of house copy games. My wife was interested in purchasing Lost Cities, a card game. I was happy to take advantage of the try-before-you-buy system that Tina and Tim have in place. Tina sat with my wife and played through a couple of times; upon learning that my wife enjoyed it, I was excited to make the purchase. In closing, having been to other FLGS in our area, Here Be Books & Games possesses a more relaxed, friendlier atmosphere. Other stores have teenagers behind the counter that couldn't care less if you're there to spend money, or unruly young adults playing games with no filter or care for other customers. This place is unbelievable! My husband and I first visited because we found it online as a place that offered Euro games. We ended up spending hours there on our first visit learning how to play games which is really important with games that can take hours to learn. They taught us several games on our first visit, and they are the only place I've ever found with such an awesome selection of used Euro games as well. At my first book club meeting everyone was really nice and inclusive. I also found a book recently that was on my list of obscure books that I was hoping to find. Perhaps I am overly price conscience with the costs of literature so I remain perplexed. Here Be Books has a nice selection of all genera's and the bookshelf books will run $3.00ish to $6.00ish with a few rare and interesting finds, most copywrited in the earlier to mid turn of the 19TH century. Businesses need to sell and make a profit to stay in business, we as consumers do not come into a book store to get out of the rain or kick the tires. It would help us bookworms and the proprietor himself to engage us a little and suggest a book, recommend an author, maybe even cut a deal on price for multiple item purchases. Off the top of my head: Buy 2 get the 3rd free or half off- perhaps a book club with discounts after paying a $20 membership fee---Something! But every time I go inside, a barely get recognized by the owner as he sits totally immersed in his PC, dude doesn't even turn his head or say a single word. There is a discount rolling cart outside that has some really good reads. read more

Was in town for work and heard about this place. I'm a fan of board games and can't pass up the chance to check out a new game shop so I cruised over in the rental after work and was very pleasantly surprised. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a warm hello. The owners asked a few times if I had any questions about any of the games and before I knew it, Tim was teaching me how to play Jaipur! He explained the game really well and I caught on quickly. The service and knowledge at this shop is outstanding!!! Although I really came in just to browse, I ended up purchasing a small game that would fit in my luggage to bring back to the family on the west coast. This is a great hole-in-the-wall bookstore and game shop with super-friendly owners. They are clearly community-oriented with lots of game nights (first Saturday) that they stay open until the wee hours for, and a sci-fi/fantasy book club. The Green Dragon is fine if you're a hardcore gamer who wants to RPG for hours at a time silently, but Here Be Books is nice if you want to talk about books while playing a 1-2 hour game, bring your kids along, or have an interesting conversation with intelligent, kind people while you shop or game. They are super helpful in finding and suggesting books as well. Also they buy books back, which is always a plus! read more

This is an excellent bookstore for finding books at bargain prices. The store operates off of used books that customers bring in for trade credit, which can be used to apply to purchases. Even without using trade credit, the books are already discounted up to 60% off of the cover price, a fact that Glenn V. (posted 9/16/2012) may not realize. The store has a wide selection of books, including children's books, various fiction genres, history, war/military, and lots of science fiction, as well as reference books and antiquarian gems. I also spotted tarot books and cards in the paranormal section (not that I use tarot cards, but it is certainly a unique find). Because the store operates on trades, they have a rotating inventory that frequently changes. And if they don't have a book you want, they can add it to a personalized "want list" and call you when they get it through a trade. As the name implies, the store also has a huge selection of games, ranging from children's and family games to card and strategy games. They even have foreign games not generally available in the states. There is also a shelf devoted to role-playing games and references. The owners have played all the games they have in stock, and if you see a game you like that you haven't played, they will pull out a demo box and teach you how to play it before you decide to buy it! How many stores will do that?! They also do a free game night on the first Saturday of each month, and everyone is welcome to stop in, pick a game and a seat, and have some old-fashioned fun. The staff is very friendly and greets every customer that walks through the door. They are very helpful and will always recommend a genre, author, or game if you're not quite sure what you're looking for. read more

I have been to this store often over the past 5 years. While I am a very busy business owner myself, I love to stop by and see the games that are played on game nights (and some days too) as well as the many things that the store has to offer. The store has a welcoming feel to it...makes you want to grab a book and stay for the day! The workers have always offered to help me find things. I love just browsing. This is a great little store. There's a small sitting area, complete with resident dog (Hi Sam!), where you can curl up and ponder your selections. Tim and Tina are very friendly and happily track down any book from the vaguest recollection, title not always required, they are that good. There is a table outside that customers are welcome to use, and they carry refreshing beverages. Bring a lunch, buy some books, and relax in the shade. read more
