As a longtime member of the Granada Hills community, I am deeply disappointed by Heritage Christian School's stewardship of the property it owns on Rinaldi. This parcel is far more than vacant land--it is part of the historic birthplace of Granada Hills. The remaining historic structures have been allowed to deteriorate over the years, and it is heartbreaking to watch such an important piece of our community's history continue to decline. This is also not the first time this property has been at the center of controversial development proposals. For decades, the community has raised concerns about projects that would intensify use of this site despite its location in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone and the surrounding evacuation challenges. Many residents believe these concerns deserve far more consideration than they have received. As a neighbor, I have found Heritage Christian School to be largely unresponsive to the community's longstanding concerns about the property's condition and future. Instead of working with residents to preserve this historic site and find a solution that benefits Granada Hills, the property continues to be marketed for increasingly intensive development. This land represents an important chapter in our community's history. It deserves thoughtful stewardship, preservation where possible, and a future that respects both public safety and the heritage of Granada Hills--not another proposal that divides the community. I hope Heritage Christian School reconsiders its approach and becomes a better partner to the neighborhood it has been part of for so many years. read more

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. If you have a black child, please do not send your child here! If you do happen to go, and your child is assigned to Ms. Thomas' class, run! She was my daughter's kindergarten teacher and she was absolutely horrible. Simply put, she should not educate children. She was lazy, and unapproachable. My children attended this school for 2 years, it is not worth the money and the retired principal Mrs. Jones AKA Lucifer Jones was worst than Ms. Thomas! I believe in providing feedback both positive and constructive, but it has been weighing on my heart to share my experiences with this school as a mom of 2 black children. My family and I have been going to Heritage for the last five years. This is a high-quality Christian school in the north San Fernando Valley. There are multiple campuses based on your child's age and of course grade. This year as we were in quarantine due to covid I was really impressed with how well the teachers were able to accommodate our students and meet them where they were at via online zoom and classroom sessions. I commend The entire staff and the great leadership at the North campus during this difficult time. We are so lucky we found Heritage for my son. He just turned 2 and needed extra attention. After having tantrums at drop off at another school, Heritage West (Zelzah location) was able to accommodate him and make him want to stay. He's so excited to go to school now that he doesn't remember to hug me. They work with every child to make them feel at home. Very happy to have my son with Ms. English and Miss Clark! He loves them. Currently, we started slowly and he is going half time 3 days a week. He will be full time 3 days a week and then full time 5 days a week. Their days selection are so flexible and you can pick the days to send your child. It is not a set MWF OR TTh. We are blessed. read more

I was extremely nervous to send my two year old off to preschool for the first time, but as an only child with a very doting grandma watching her during the work week, we felt it was important for her to get the socialization and structure a preschool environment could provide...at least a few days a week. Our first priority in choosing a school was knowing that she would be in the care of believers, who are going to love and care for her as one of God's most obvious blessings...children. We found that at Heritage, and I've been amazed every day by the quality of the entire preschool program. The campus is so welcoming, staff are kind and familiar with everyone, and on-site security is an obvious plus to us. She just completed her first year and at only 3 1/2 yrs old is regularly singing Bible songs, asking to see her friends from class, referring to her amazing teacher AND the teacher's aide as bonafide celebrities in our house, and talking about the daily art, activities, and learning that took place. At pick up time, her teacher always knows what or how much she ate for lunch, when she was last changed (before she was potty trained), and how the day went in general. Everyone is truly invested and involved and it shows. I'm so grateful for Heritage, and I know that they hold the responsibility of caring for children at the highest regard. read more

You cannot please everyone! Most recently my son attended the early school program at the West Campus for two years. He had a wonderful experience and he learned not only academically but spiritually. Most importantly his teacher (Mrs. Newton) treated him fairly and made his mother and I feel that he would be safe while with her. The primary reasons to enroll children in private schools (in the past anyway) were safety, behavior and rigorous academics. This is what both my children (daughter now 22 and son now 5) received while at Heritage. As a side note I too attended the then named Hillcrest Christian School at the Rinaldi campus. I believe they did their job as I now hold an advanced degree and I am gainfully employed. The complaints in this thread are interesting and I couldn't pass up a chance to reflect: *people complaining about Christianity being taught at a Christian school (must not have read or perhaps can't read the admissions flyer) *parents arguing that their children should not be asked to comply with school rules ("my son was torn from my arms and the teacher had to restrain him...") I am sure that is how it happened. This seems very similar to arguments made by people who claim their "poor babies" shouldn't have been arrested by the big bad police for not complying. Two of my kids (21 & 15) have all attended private Christian schools from Kindergarten. Heritage Christian (North Campus) formerly Hillcrest Christian is where my 15 year old attended K-3rd grade. He attended Village Christian 4th-7th and has attended Heritage Christian (South Campus) formerly LA Baptist 8th -9th grade. We have another son who was a exchange student from China that lived with us for his 11th & 12th grade years. Our daughter attended Village from K-6th and LAB from 7th-12th. She is now a senior in college and is one semester away from earring her Bachelor Degree. Heritage like ALL (secular private, Christian private, public, charter or prep) schools has their positives and their negatives. Yes Heritage is a private school where all the staff (admin, teachers, coaches, facilities & volunteers) profess their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Heritage offers all the classes that public school offers as well as classes that teach about the Bible. I know there are students that don't consider themselves Christian, but it is a Christian school so they require students to take their Bible classes. All of my children thankfully have had positive experiences at HCS. The teachers, admin & facility employees are always there for my kids. If they've ever needed to talk with one of them they make the time. Some of my favorite employees on campus are the coaches. These men and women love there athletes and are great models of what it means to be disciple of Christ. They are there for them on and off campus and are available via email or text through the evenings and weekends. Academically they are competitive with other college prep school in the area. The College Couselers are there to steer your kids on the right path. They keep the kids accountable to staying on the path drawn out for them. Overall it's been a great $10,000-$12,000 annual investment per kid for the past 18 years. *Lastly if we've had disagreements over the years with admin or staff they've ended amicably. I will try to be as fair as possible in describing the events that lead up to us withdrawing our son from this school. We initially thought that being in a private Christian school would equal better education and opportunity for our son. There are some definite benefits of this particular school and some aspects that we truly loved. I loved him being exposed to the Bible in this environment on a daily basis. He was memorizing verses and attending worship weekly. The principal is super friendly and approachable with a great sense of humor. I also feel that they are very protective of the students with a great security system in place and armed personnel. All this I loved. Now on to the "cons". My son was struggling to keep up. We didn't know why. He was failing a subject and I asked if he could retake a test and was told that I was just trying to inflate his grade. I was genuinely just trying to keep him from failing. He would have particularly bad days on Fridays. His confidence and self esteem were low. I was trying to find out why and asked asked if I could observe his routine and his teacher took great offense to this. His teacher is very young. I wish I would have questioned her experience and expertise sooner. She had a very difficult time managing her first grade class. She always appeared flustered and overwhelmed. She didn't give homework and at first I liked this but then I realized without homework you can't reinforce lessons learned at school at home. Because my son was having such a hard time I asked if there was anything we could do to help him. Now this is when I finally decided to leave. This is when I realized that this was the wrong place to be. After expressing my concern and trying to think of things to do and ways to help my son succeed (eg. tutoring, requesting homework, and starting a reading program) I was told by his teacher that she has no "legal" responsibility to help. I was completely shocked. Sadly this made me feel like she didn't care. She later apologized profusely for making this remark but for me the damage was done. I later learned that it's true. Private schools aren't required to help struggling kids. They usually hold them back and that benefits the institution because they get another year of tuition. This actually happened to a kid in my sons class. He was in second grade but they put him back in first. Or you can use their "discovery" program in which they double the tuition and they provide two or three 30 minute sessions which they use to provide one on one for testing. I did talk to parents that utilized this but they weren't convinced that it was helping. So I didn't take that route. There were other minor instances that made me wonder about this school. 1. One time they called me to tell me my son forgot his lunch. They wanted me to drop what I was doing and go take him a lunch. I asked if they could give him a hot lunch and I would pay later. They said they don't do that. I was in Burbank I couldn't make it for lunch so I asked them to look again. Guess what!? They found his lunch!! It was there all along. They would rather him not eat at all than to give him the hot lunch and bill me later. UNBELIEVABLE. 2. In kindergarten I learned that they routinely take away recess time as punishment!! How does this benefit anyone? Kids need to release energy and recess is the time to do it. Not letting a 5 year old play is crazy! 3. Class size is large for a private school. My advice is... Ask about credentials, experience etc!! Know what you are paying for. Listen to your kids even when they aren't speaking. When we changed schools his attitude, confidence, and self esteem increased tremendously. He is doing better academically with a teacher that has 30+ years experience at his new school. He is a happy kid again. And for that, I'm thankful. It was hard to leave but now I realize it was the best decision for us. read more

It breaks my heart to say that we were forced to withdraw our son from the 6th grade at Heritage three weeks ago. I am honestly still in disbelief over some of the things that occurred leading up to our final decision to pull him out. Our family strongly supports and values Christian education. We feel that for us, this is a priority in raising our children (we have 4). Even if it involves a financial sacrifice, we are willing to do what we can to give our children a scholastic experience that mirrors the values and ideals that we are working to instill at home. While our son never had any complaints about his teachers or the classes during his time at Heritage, his experience was far from what we would expect from a Christian School which prides itself on its spiritual impact on the student body. During the time that our son was at Heritage, he was bullied, harassed, and intimidated by other students. He was mocked for not wearing the right shoes (Converse instead of Vans), not having a better phone, had his pants pulled down by multiple students on the football field during PE, had his lunch bag completely torn up by another student, and by far the worst; was exposed to pornography on a SCHOOL COMPUTER during an elective class. Honestly, throughout each of these experiences, we tried to be open minded and trust that the administration had things under control and were doing what they could to minimize these behaviors and to issue consequences where they were needed. Over time it became clear that not only did the school not really have a handle on things, but that they simply did not care to do enough in order to prevent further mishaps or a sense of security within students, like our son, that were being made to feel unsafe. My child is by no means small, nor does he classify as being a bookworm. He is very tall, and by most accounts pretty handsome. Generally, he is not one to cower or seem meek by any stretch, but as things progressed at school, we saw that not only did he feel insecure, he was legitimately intimidated. When his lunch bag was obliterated by another student (all side panels torn and the padding was coming out, the zipper was ripped off, etc.), my son asked me to go with him to report the incident because he hadn't done it himself and didn't feel comfortable. This was not the case at the beginning of the school year when he was "pantsed." He had gone from being willing to confront the issue at hand, to being afraid. NO CHILD should fear going to school. That day after meeting with the Dean and reporting the incident, my son BEGGED me not to send him to class. As a parent, I was devastated. After being informed that the student who destroyed our son's property would not be reprimanded in any way, we immediately withdrew our son from Heritage. He had no idea the day we showed up at school to pull him out, and when we arrived and told him what was going on, his only request was to say goodbye to his teachers. We are grateful for the faculty that did show our son care and respect, especially his History and homeroom teacher, Mr. Tooley, who he absolutely adored or his Math and Science teachers, Miss McCray and Ms. Delvaux. It is so tragic to us that a school with such a strong reputation and prestige for its programming and resources has seemingly chosen quantity over quality when it comes to how they address issues with their students. It saddens me to think that the main concern at Heritage has less to do with glorifying God or fostering its students to be strong Godly leaders, and far more to do with their bottom line. We had much higher hopes for Heritage, not only for our oldest son, but for our next 3 children coming behind him, and now, we have sadly lost our faith in this school. read more

Our family loves this school. Our kids have been going here since preschool, except for the 1 year one of our children went to El Oro (that was a disaster and we immediately came back). The staff and teachers are all wonderful. They're friendly and very responsive to phone calls and emails. The Principal (Mrs. Jones) is very involved in the school and children's lives. Some days, you'll see her at the carline helping load or unload students. The curriculum is balanced and strong. The students get the core topics (math, science, history, etc), and they also receive Spanish, art, music, PE, and computers. Students get to pick electives such as band, choir, and government. We like that the students go to Chapel weekly and that the Bible is taught regularly. The school offers extracurricular sports as well, such as soccer and additional instrumental lessons such as violin and piano. They offer multiple field trips, projects, and festivals (harvest festivalis great!). The administration always keeps good communication with emailed updates and letters sent home. Tuition is reasonable, and they have financial aid. The student population is diverse. It makes me sad reading the previous negative comments. I just don't see the school behaving that way. And for anyone complaining about this being a Christian school....well duh, it's a Christian school! It says so in the name. If you don't believe in Christianity, don't review against it; that's not the school's fault. read more

I attended Hillcrest from 7th-12th grade. It was a small private school so they may not have had the best opportunities available as far as college goes (like AP classes and such) but the teachers truly do care about the students. I still get cards in the mail for my birthday from the superintendent, Mr. Kendrick. It's true that some of the students were involved in bad things, but that's what happens in high school. They can't keep tabs on every single person all the time. Anyway, the bad things happening at this school were FAR LESS than at any public school. The class rooms were not over crowded. The student:teacher ratio allowed for extra time spent helping students if needed. As far as what others are saying about Christianity being pushed on them...it is a CHRISTIAN school. They allow non-Christians to attend, but they still require you to attend Bible class and chapel. They encourage worship, church attendance, and Bible study. They do not force you to do anything, but they will not minimize their beliefs so as not to step on others toes. If you are attending this private school, you are coming in to their territory and they have the right to talk about the Lord and Christianity as much as they want. In all my years of attending this school, I don't ever remember hearing that a teacher told a student to go to hell. Sounds absurd to me. Something they teach is the 3 R's. Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility. I think some of these reviewers may need another lesson on this concept. I owe a lot to this school. Growing up I knew there was a God, I knew about Jesus, and other stories of the Bible, but attending Hillcrest opened my eyes and my heart to who Jesus Christ is. If it were not for this school and the aforementioned Mr. Armstrong, I'm not sure if I'd know what true Christianity is about. He taught me what it means to have a relationship with Jesus as well as many other things. I think about this school often and everything I learned here. I did not attend some fancy university after graduation, but what I got from this school is much more valuable than that. Every time I hear Isaiah 40:31 "...They will soar on wings like eagles;..." I'm reminded of Hillcrest. God is still revealing to me more everyday what Hllcrest set the foundation for. I pray that the new Heritage Christian School will continue to strive for the same mission and goals as Hillcrest and I wish all the teachers and faculty continued success and many blessings. What's so bad about that? The school is not perfect, as every school has bullying and issues. However, overall, these are nice people who focus on respect, kindness and other God-like qualities. My daughter has such a great outlook on life, and I feel that it's partially because we sent her to this Christian school. This school recently merged with LA Baptist and is now called Heritage Christian School. My daughter is truly GLOWING with excitement to go to school on the new campus. Keeps it real Roberto C! Man, I could write a novel on the pitfalls of this school. This school is a JOKE. It's sad, really. They do force Christian beliefs on you even if Christianity is CLEARLY not your thing. I had a COUPLE teachers tell me I was going to hell. Which is true. But still, aren't teachers supposed to guide, encourage, and inspire their students? Not tell them in 8th grade that a 4 year university probably won't suit them. 8th grade, man!! At least give me a year or two of HS to prove you right. They could give a fuck less what you do so long as the tuition check is in the mail every month. I'm proof of that. I can't tell you how many stunts I pulled in that school and never received so much as a slap on the wrist. Some of these stunts could bring a law suit my way, so I won't be sharing any specific examples. Don't get me started on the incompetence of staff and teachers. Of course, there are always some exceptions, but the VAST majority of teachers seem like they received their credentials from the Hollywood Upstairs School for Teaching. I'm certainly no Einstein, but these motherfuckers are DUUUMMBBB. These teachers are there to collect a paycheck NOT for the advancement of children and young adults. No shop class. No foreign language; other than Spanish taught by dude who could barley speak it. But, DAMN could he conjugate some verbs. Lame athletics. Dishonest teachers (most of them) Greedy. EXPENSIVE. Extracurricular activities... whats that? Plus, you share the campus with kinder garden age kids which, in my opinion, creates an environment to be coddled as one and unable to enjoy the same things a NORMAL high school and high school age kids do. No dances, because dancing TOTALLY pisses Jesus off. No Halloween celebration, but a Barn (lame) Party. Whoopdy fuckin' do. Carpet gym. WTF?? (at least when I attended) They run the AC when it's cold and turn it off when it's hot. Teachers that snort Coke - not an exaggeration. Man, seriously, I can go on. I don't know how they got my address in Northern California, but they SERIOUSLY need to stop mailing me monthly update bulletins and letters which usually turn out to be pathetic pleas for some kind of monetary donation. I share the following information as a warning. My granddaughter was removed from her family home by DCFS. After several placements and a battle with DCFS, she came to live with me. In looking for a safe, loving environment, for this bright, sweet, kind and well behaved 5th grader, I chose Heritage Christian School. Not unlike many kids in her situation, she was traumatized, had a Learning Disabilities and was behind academically. She was also enrolled in the Discovery Program. She did NOT find acceptance at HCS, nor did she build self-esteem through the Discovery Program. The classroom teacher did not show tolerance, the therapist did not show compassion, and the administration did not show Christian grace. She was beaten down by the Discovery Therapist, the classroom teacher and the administration. In addition to the shadows of sorrows from her past, she lost her joy for learning. Discovery is scheduled during regular core curricular at the therapists convenience. After she received a "D" on her Report Card and I complained, some adjustments were made. However, she was expected to find out what she missed on her own and to learn it on her own, or not at all. She needed to complete the missed classwork and homework and turn it in on time along with everything else. She did over 2 hours of HW each night including Fri, Sat and Sun. If she dared ask the classroom teacher a question, the response in a harsh tone, was "Do your best". But, not an answer to the question. While the same teacher smiled sweetly, and gave kudos and awards to students that copied HW from others during recess. One teacher was kind, but declined to offer assistance when the other teacher and administration lacked compassion. The 2nd teacher was absolutely horrid. Even calling my child stubborn in front of the other students. The Discovery Therapist refused to return my phone calls after my child reported an awful private one-on-one session wherein she was bullied by the therapist until she coward. She left school early with her first migraine and went to the pediatrician. The administration refused to return my calls to discuss what had happened. In retaliation to a follow-up email, the principal excluded her from the 5th grade camp trip. She and the other Discovery students were routinely excluded from meaningful participation in chapel activities. I have always been her advocate when she had no voice, but HCS refused to listen. Before you trust HCS with your child, think about the true measure of an organization and its people. Harsh treatment, exclusion, unresponsive, punishing. Not what I had expected from a Christian school. If HCS can treat my child this way, they may treat your child the same. read more

I attended Heritage from 9th to 12th grade. It's not great but it could be a lot worse. You're not really allowed to have an opinion here or else you get punished for having different views. The principal is very creepy and most students hate him as he is constantly seen watching and isn't very welcoming. The choir is actually very terrible. The director and football coach do lots of mind tricks on students, often guilt tripping them into Christianity. She will act like she cares but favoritism is an extreme problem with her and expect lots of lies. Try not to send your child on any of the school trip as well. There is a lot of drugs(LOTS OF WEED SOLD ON CAMPUS), alcohol, and sex going around (sometimes even on school campus during school hours). There are great teachers but they are firing them one by one. It's an okay school and I didn't have a bad experience there but I wouldn't recommend it unless you know you can handle the environment. read more

My family and I have been attending Shepherd of the Hills church for 15 years now, three generations have been a part of this wonderful church. To think that they are a part of this school is humiliating. This review is to help spread the word so that you can save your child from this school. My child is in preschool. If you are aware of the psychosocial development of a preschool.. it is the age where "Too much guilt can make the child slow to interact with others and may inhibit their creativity" and too much guilt is exactly what they put onto my child. My child was picked on, neglected, and the center of the evil politics in this school. What do I mean about politics? When teachers have done something wrong and other teachers cover up for them for the sake of not losing anymore staff. Can you imagine your child being a part of politics? It is despicable. Did I mention there is no nurse on premises? The staff with no nursing license acts as the standing "nurse'. There are now a few people gathering to take action against this school they have reached out to me and if you are a victim please let it be known. I was very disappointed when Heritage took over Los Angeles Baptist a couple of years ago. We finished out middle school with them and soon transferred out to go to Granada High. My son has always received good grades at Heritage he even received student of the month at one point. But I have to tell you when we got to Granada he was not prepared as he should of been. Especially in Math and English. Heritage needs to step it up especially in those two areas cause it's not reality. I loved the kids and the wholesome environment of Heritage. Is it worth the tuition? It wasn't for me. Im sorry I didn't leave sooner. This is a warning to all prospective parents. Do your homework when it comes to choosing your schools especially private schools. read more

I'm stunned by some of the reviews regarding the Heritage North campus on Rinaldi. (There are 3 campuses, FYI.) What is all this nonsense about burning in hell? These accusations are far-fetched and egregious if you ask me. My child is currently enrolled here and we have very few complaints and the ones we do have are minor (small parking lot, etc....too minor to mention). The academics are above the standard many kids receive at other schools. The teachers are really what make this school great. The teachers my child and I have had the pleasure of knowing are kind-hearted, diligent and positive. My child tested well above average on the state standards and I'm very pleased with the values and respect for humanity that he's exposed to at Heritage. I will continue to recommend this school to everyone and anyone. read more

We always knew that our child would attend Heritage Christian School. We've heard great things about the school from friends who have kids that attended since kindergarten. Our child is now in 3rd grade and it's no surprise that we are very happy with the school. Everyone, from the front office, teachers, principal, and other staff members, they all care about the children and their families in every aspect. I personally feel very close to all the staff members. They're like family to me. And I love how they all know my child by name. Academically, the school is always looking to improve its curriculum to challenge its students to better prepare them for the next level. I'm amazed at how much my child is learning and thriving each year. There is also no denying how much the school puts an emphasis on the importance of spiritual growth with its weekly Chapel and actual Bible classes. My child looks forward to Chapel times and loves learning the Word of God. There are plenty of extra curricular activities offered as well, sports, cheerleading, drama, and performing arts. Parents are definitely encouraged to get involved as well. Volunteers are always welcomed and very much appreciated. Heritage Christian School is from K-12 and this is a plus for us. God willing, our child will finish high school here. It is definitely an investment worth paying for. #GoWarrriors P.S. Big disappointment in a school calling itself Heritage Christian School. It would be correct if our Heritage was communism, censorship, and a prohibition of our Constitutional rights. Its foundation is built on sand and there is no fear of God in the leadership. Every encounter with the office staff and the teachers was rude and tyrannical, as they greeted me with policies that divided me physically from my children, and when I asked them why they would do such a thing, I received no response. The Director of the school had told his staff they weren't allowed an opinion and they would not address my concerns. The violated our Constitutional rights unapologetically while masquerading as a Christian school. They stand for lies and follow the tenants of mob rule. The leadership God is their belly and they sold their birth right for commerce. When we left because they refused to acknowledge our complaints in emails, they actually said they will be praying for our family..that should be as empty as their name. read more

I love this school. I have two children that attend Heritage. One is at the North Campus and one at the South Campus. My husband and I are very happy with the school and my children love it. I attribute this to several things. I believe that the teachers truly care about these students. They really make themselves available for the students and help them when they need it. My son has met with his algebra teacher at lunch on occasion because he didn't understand something. They can often see their teachers afterschool if they need a little extra help. I also love how they teach the bible and integrate biblical teaching into students lives. I love the sports opportunities and the retreats that the students go on. The music and drama programs are FANTASTIC. They are truly exceptional. I also love that everything is online too. You can get daily homework, email the teacher, get daily grades all from an app on your phone! My children are not in high school yet, but I have heard that the College Counseling program is exceptional. There are two counselors, both super knowledgeable and who really, truly, counsel and help the students achieve their college goals. What more could you want? read more

The reason I chose this school is because Christian education was and is very important to me, but boy was I in for a surprise. Honestly, I had a bad feeling from beginning. First I was greeted by unfriendly staff, but I didn't pay much attention to it since I thought that the office staff would not be teaching my child, but rather the teachers would. So school started and I decided that what I would do was walk my child to class for first week, however, after two days I was approached by unfriendly principal (lady) who informed me that I no longer had a right to do that, indeed, while walking her to class every morning I saw that children were not allowed to run in the playground, they were supposed to walk. This School is very well designed for adults, not children!! Children are being controlled by fear. They are not allowed to run in the playground, and in class they have this peculiar system of marking for all students to see. (My child has perfect behavior but everyday she came home with a red mark). When I confronted the teacher abut it she said that my child gets red marks not because she misbehaves (even though the letter clearly states that the markings are used only for behavioral issues), but because she is not following orders quickly enough. Some examples :She took out the wrong book, she began writing on the second line instead of the first, and so on absolute nonsense. Well, I tried talking to a teacher about this problem...., big mistake. They are so closed minded; they only think one way, and they expect your child to be this obedient robot by rubbing in this "respect for authority (teachers)" without questioning reason and logic. I do agree that our children needs to be taught respect others, but teachers and staff should set the example and respect kids, parents and their co-workers, which I did not see happening at this school. This type of system will only produce great followers who are unable to think on their own. Likely enough I found CONCORDIA SCHOOL IN GRANADA HILLS, where my child has been for 4 years now and are blossoming. She has won the spelling award, she plays piano, she is in cheerleading dance and are great at signing. I love this schools environment and she looks forward everyday to to go to school. read more

My granddaughter has gone to this school since Pre K. I am so grateful that they are able to keep her intellectually challenged -almost making a custom program. She loves the school and I love it for her! I highly recommend this school for anyone seeking to have a challenging, Christ-centered curriculum. read more

I have attended Christian schools, sent my own children through them and now have closely observed my grandchildren attend Heritage Christian school from Kindergarten through fourth grade. So far I have never experienced such a consistent excellent academic and spiritual environment. My grandson excelled quickly from being a non reader at six years old to reading only six months later. My grand daughter has opportunities to excel in music and the sciences. The staff loves and respects the children and visa versa. It all begins at car line where they are greeted by the Principal and other staff, they enter the school and are personally greeted and encouraged by Mrs. Breen as they go to their classrooms. The after school programs are numerous including sports!! There is an overall love of Christ in all they do. The chapel programs are phenomenal in sincere worship and fun. Miss Lee is is a treasure as a worship leader and choral director. I cannot say enough good about this special school that we are honored to attend. read more

Fell in love with the Choir group at Heritage. I was able to experience the amazing choir during the Christmas Concert last year. They exceed my expectations. 10/18/2017 In early Aug, my just turned 2-year old son began attending the 'pre-school' program at HCS (against my wishes/he's so young). I'm optimistic, over time, he will benefit from the program, but when I went to see how he was doing on his first day, a disturbing event transpired that I feel should be made public. With only fifteen minutes remaining in the day, I was escorted to his classroom. Not wanting him to see me, I peaked around the door frame and immediately noticed he was being held by his teacher. He was already looking at the door, saw me, and immediately began pointing at the door, saying 'Daddy, Daddy' and started to cry. I was torn-up inside as you might imagine. Poor little guy was stressed/scared, so of course I couldn't just walk away. I needed to comfort him. I entered the classroom and picked him up, but after just 2 minutes, the staff began to badger me to give him back to the teacher. I resisted, not wanting to subject my little guy to gratuitous 'stress/anxiety' for the second time that day. After a couple more minutes of resisting, staff called the Principal and WITH JUST FIVE MINUTES REMAINING IN THE DAY, I was forced by the Principal to transfer my son back to staff. Of course, my son began to cry 'scared,' which caused me great stress as well. This event was handled very poorly by staff and Principal. I am a divorcee, but not precluded from access to my son, so no legal prohibitions are in play. Other immediate family were arriving for pickup as I was leaving the building. This could've been handled much more compassionately and professionally. I have some reservation about 'common sense' level of staff and Principal. Pretty pathetic how they handled it! I don't have decision-making authority on certain days, so no recourse for me. 'VET' everybody. Ask tough questions. Require classroom access 'on-demand.' Only work with people who have common sense. Choose wisely! I will look elsewhere in the event I have a 'say' going-forward. All the Best! read more

I have two children, one who graduated from Hillcrest and one who is currently in 5th grade. This is an incredible school with amazing teachers. Unfortunately, one persons behavior, which could happen anywhere, put us in a negative light. However, I believe that God has his hand upon our school. My children are amazing students. They are receiving a biblical and spiritual foundation. I have NEVER heard a teacher proclaim that someone is going to hell. It is disheartening to read these comments and see the language that is used to describe ones frustration. If you hate God and religion, then why on earth would you send your child to a Christian School and then post such nonsense in an attempt to discredit it? I just don't get the logic. read more

I absolutely love this school! Our son has had such great experiences at HCS. His faith has grown in his relationship with Christ, he developed a mentor/mentee relationship with the principal that has become a solid friendship. Academically he is thriving and doing very well now at the HCS high school in Chemistry & Algebra 2. Excellent sports programs at elementary & high school campuses. Not only did he have fun playing soccer, baseball, basketball and football, he also is learning how to play the sport football in excellence with superior coaching staff and developing a bond of brotherhood with the players he will remember the rest of his life. Chapels are excellent, and he has developed good friendships with his peers. Heritage grows a student academically, mentally and spiritually into their best Christ-centered self to prepare them for the world they will enter as an adult. Hillcrest Christian school is a fantastic school. My son who currently is in high school has had such positive experiences. The math and Bible instruction are exceptional. My son also takes college classes and has found that he is well equipped as he earns "A's" at college. The students reach out to newcomers and although this is an extremely diverse campus all of the students are friends. I highly recommend Hillcrest. We sent both of our children to this school. They both attended Kindergarten through 12th grade. They are both young adults and still keep in touch with and seek council from their teachers. The teachers love their students and you will not find a better administration. If you are looking for a school that is spiritually grounded, this is the school. As a parent and former educator, I can honestly say that choosing Heritage for my children was and is the best investment I have made. I have investigated the quality of education as well as all the extracurriculars and have found a well balanced school with proficient teachers and administrators. The average SAT, ACT and standardize test scores reflect just that, the average of the student population. This encompasses both the strong academic student as well as the struggling student, as Heritage has a program to assist students with learning differences. I would encourage anyone who is considering Heritage Christian as an option for the future to investigate more than just reading biased or angry reviews. The best way to do this is to call the school and schedule a tour, speak to the staff and students on the campus and find out for yourself. My child is now in his fourth year at Heritage Christian Elementary school. We are extremely pleased with the academic strength, the administrative leadership, spiritual direction, and extracurricular activities the school provides. We've watched the school continue to add new academic curriculum, preparing our children for a more competitive world. The teachers (& staff members) are personally invested in our children, both individually and corporately. There is a deep sense of community within the Heritage family. I always marvel at how different ones are constantly looking out for my child personally. It gives this mom a great sense of peace! They say it takes a village to raise a child, and this is one great village! The school is filled with a fantastic group of kids too, who are learning to be respectful, creative, and God honoring leaders in the world around them. If there is a disciplinary issue, the staff lovingly know how to manage each situation. If you're considering Heritage, be sure to ask to visit chapel on Wednesdays and it will give you a true taste of what the school is all about! I have two children attending Heritage Christian School- 3rd grade and kindergarten. I am very happy I chose this school! Teachers and staff truly care about your children- academically, spiritually and emotionally. The teachers encourage communication and answer emails/questions often the same day. The principal is attentive and responsive to parental concerns and manages discipline in a compassionate manner. He regularly has meetings with parents and discusses different topics regarding school/childhood issues. The new math curriculum is outstanding. As for extra curricular activities there is intramural basketball and soccer as well as cheerleading clinics. Starting in 3rd grade your child can participate in band and choir. There are also plenty of opportunities for parents to be involved in the school- from volunteering in the classroom, coaching, PAT (parent action committee), prayer groups and field trips. Every week there is chapel and Bible is taught as a subject in the classroom. Before and after school care is available at a reasonable cost. Finally, there is a middle school and high school at a different location where they can continue their academic journey. After 16 years and counting at HCS, I have a wealth of experience and daily situations from which to draw. As the mom of 3 daughters who attended since kindergarten, 2 graduates now in college and one in high school, I can honestly say that sending my kids to Heritage was among the best decisions I've made in my life. Heritage was their 2nd home, their extended family, and their safe place to grow into young women. The teachers are phenomenal, with personal care and attention given to their growth, success, and character development. The academics are outstanding, and my daughters were accepted to top universities. They are currently at UCSB and Chapman University. I credit this success to the strong work ethic which they were taught, top-notch educational programs, and ample opportunities for school and community involvement. The sports programs are among the best in the state with an excellent and dedicated coaching staff. I am extremely cautious in most venues of life in offering endorsement, but I have no reservation in giving my highest recommendation to Heritage Christian School. read more

My kids have attended Hillcrest Christian School, which became Heritage Christian School a couple years ago, since they were in Kindergarten. They are in 6th and 8th grade this year. They love the school, and we as parents love the school! It is a great caring atmosphere, with good academics with a biblical perspective. The classes are small, so there is a good teacher/student ratio. When problems arise with the students doing something bad, it is taken care of in a caring, Christlike manner. The rules are enforced. The administration focuses on mentoring the children. I don't know why people say there aren't good academics. They must have had an experience from a LONG time ago. My daughter is in 8th grade and is in Geometry, so high level math is offered early on. There are AP classes offered in almost every subject at the south campus where the high school is. It is a great school academically, spiritually and in atmosphere. The Lord is honored here! read more
