Prior to receiving my gown, communication was excellent. However, none of that necessarily mattered when I received my gown and it was not preserved in the way I had ordered. They offer two preservation styles, and I received a box with my gown in it rather than the hanging method I had requested. As I still wish to hang my dress (as they make a big deal on the website of differentiating the two styles and describing their process). I have since tried emailing the company three times, and called and left voicemails to request a call back, and I have heard nothing back from Heritage Garment Preservation. If you love your gown, this is the only way to treat it. They will care for your gown as if it was the Mona Lisa - seriously. They even send you home with museum-style gloves. My dress was a long ballgown style which dragged in the grass and dirt at our vineyard wedding, and not a trace remains. It might even look better than it did the day of the wedding. A friend recommended I use Heritage Garment Preservation to have my wedding dress cleaned/preserved. When I first spoke with Heritage Garment Preservation I was told that my dress would be safe. They told me that I would ship my dress to them in CA, they would sign for it and do their work, and then they would ship it back to me in Massachusetts, at which point I would have to sign for it. That turned out not be true. I returned home to find my wedding dress sitting outside my apartment building, essentially in the parking lot. No signature required, not even left in my building. I was very upset, but lucky that i had gotten home early and it wasn't raining. When i contacted the company to tell them what had happened they told me to take it up with FedEx. Really? I paid them close to $1000.00 for their services but they didn't care at all about what happened when my dress was sent back to me. They choose to work with FedEx but had no interest in speaking with them about leaving wedding dresses outside without a signature. Definitely not impressed with this company. Update: After my initial correspondence with the company about my dress being left outside, a second employee, Carmina, contacted me and appeared to take the matter seriously. She had done some research on what happened with Fedex and she was taking the time to speak with Fedex about what happened. I adjusted my rating based on this. read more

I am the type of person who reads review after review to find the perfect place/product. I highly recommend this place. I arrived there with my wedding dress and was greeted warmly. They explained the process in great detail. I sat down with a consultant and they wrote down all of my information. When I left, I remembered that I had I forgotten to mention that I had taken a survey which would have given me 20.00 off. I emailed them and they said it would be no problem. Throughout the process I received emails letting me know what stage my dress was in. When I picked up my dress, they remembered about the 20.00 and I got 20.00 off. Highly recommend: They did an incredible job with my gown, veil, corset, and garter! I was a pale bride who decided to have a first-time spray tan 3 days before my wedding. It was also an outdoor wedding, so needless to say -- sweat, spray tan, dirt and a downpour during our exit turned my lace ivory gown and garments into what I thought was too large of a task. They did an incredible job, and I was even impressed to see my corset was like new (To be honest, I haven't taken my gown all the way out of the museum method bag for fear of ruining their folding handiwork, even though they did provide white cotton gloves to do so). Heritage Garment Preservation saved my wedding day! They are a garment preservation company, but I ended up purchasing a wedding dress off the rack and found out from the dry cleaner I took it to for cleaning and alterations, after I paid them and got the dress home, that the dress could not be dry cleaned. (I also had to redo the alterations they performed, but that is for another review.) I called Heritage Garment Preservation, in tears, and explained my situation - I live one town away from them - and they took my dress in, washed it and removed all of the spots BY HAND - I was so grateful and the dress was PERFECT!!! Totally worth the money, plus they gave me a coupon for preservation which I haven't quite gotten around to yet, but I will definitely bring it back. My mother saved the christening gown used for all four of her children, earliest being 1948, last christening 1953. The yellowing was very heavy and dark on the bonnet, slip, gown and a coat that had a very fragile, transparent outer layer of material with a complex design pattern of small flowers and stems. I was able to get most of the yellow out of the bonnet, the slip and gown by soaking in Oxy Clean. However, it was impossible to get the yellowing out of the coat, the fragile outer layer shredded. I found Heritage Garment Preservation online. All I can say is thank goodness they exist. They certainly came to my rescue. I explained the situation and the damage I had done and asked if they could help. After receiving the gown they said they could get most or all of the remaining yellow out of all 4 items (they got it all out), and their seamstress could replace the coat's sheer outer layer with a similar or identical material. She would also replicate the small flowers and stems on the outer sheath, and repair a few areas where the lace had separated on the gown. To say I was very impressed with the seamstress' skills is an understatement -- the entire outfit was beautiful, placed in a preservation box with instructions for future care. You could not tell the outer layer had been replaced. The flower and stem design were perfect. Only those very familiar with the original outer sheath would be able to tell, and only with a very close examination, that the flowers were so very slightly larger, and that a cotton rather than a contrasting silk thread had been used for the stems. Heritage cleaning, repair and preservation of all items was outstanding. The price was outstanding as well for the amount of work and attention to intricate details made in this repair. I will most definitely keep Heritage in mind if I ever need gown restoration, preservation, and especially if I ever need detailed and intricate sewing in the future. Heritage did an absolutely fabulous job preserving my Marine Corps Dress Blues. For $199 they cleaned and preserved my blouse, jacket, pants, skirt, and cover (that is hat for you non military folks). There were some makeup stains on some of the garments (cover and blouse) and some mold that had gotten on the front of the jacket while hanging in my closet for too long. All stains were removed and the uniform looks better than new. read more

Heritage Garment Preservation did a beautiful job cleaning and preparing my wedding gown for long term storage. I was nervous shipping my wedding gown across the country to be cleaned, but I can confidently recommend this company as professional and trustworthy. The communication here is good. I called the shop before I sent it to ask a few questions and then sent an e-mail asking the status since it had been 8 weeks. I was met with prompt and friendly responses. The service is by no means speedy. It took nearly four months from the time I shipped to the time it arrived safely back at my doorstep. They did, however, let me know when they started work on my gown and when they shipped it back to me via e-mail. I chose to have my gown preserved by the "museum method" which keeps your gown safely away from plastics and acid. It hangs in a closet just like the rest of your clothes. They will personalize the cotton garment bag for you and they provide cotton gloves with which you can touch your gown. It's important to keep body oil off the cleaned garment, but this type of preservation allows you to see your gown anytime and to periodically inspect it. An update on my situation with Heritage Garment Preservation. I put in a review some months ago but for some reason it was filtered. I even filed a better business bureau complaint, which did get a response from Heritage, but basically no action. The BBB was totally useless ( I guess because Heritage is a member of the BBB they are protected from really doing anything but sending some emails), please check out my separate review of the BBB if you are interested. Quick recap, I ordered cleaning service without preservation from Heritage Garment Preservation. When we received the gown back we noticed that it was dark and dingy and that the bodice was pressed so hard that there were creases on the bodice, which before had been soft rolled folds, a major detail which was why my daughter bought it. My daughter compared the gown to a piece of fabric which was not cleaned and it was clear the color had changed. We took the gown to three different cleaners and each one confirmed that the gowns color was damaged and could not be fixed. We asked for a refund based on their guarantee as clearly we are not satisfied with the job they did. Nine months later the situation with Heritage is not resolved. They have not addressed the main complaints we have: 1. Misleading information on their web site. Their web site continues to display misleading information to consumers that imply they do all work on their site. They claim to be experts because they have been in business for a few years. It is laughable that they claim such expertise while they send gowns out to others to clean. This is truly arrogance at its height. Textile conservators whom we have contacted regarding this are insulted by their claim that their years in business in any way replace training, research and use of scientific methods. I have received many responses to my posts on this problem from brides who agree that the Heritage site is misleading. Even former Heritage customers have contacted me to convey their concern that their gown was sent off site without their knowledge. 2. Their satisfaction guarantee - I did receive a letter from Heritage, which my lawyer is reviewing. The refund of money from Heritage appears to be contingent on our stipulating that they did not cause any problems and a lot of talk about terms that only a lawyer would understand. From what I gather this letter has us agreeing to release them forever from any liability for the gown they damaged. There is a "gag" portion included in this letter which if my understanding is accurate means I can not sign it, as we are already in discussion with the District Attorney about the misleading content on their site and wrong information they continue to convey verbally over the phone. We would never agree to state that they did not cause the problem that they clearly did cause. I guess their satisfaction guarantee is yet another example of the misleading information we are concerned about above. We contacted the Wall Street Journal regarding their award to Heritage for best "presentation" (which itself is potentially misleading to brides who might mistake presentation for preservation). The WSJ indicated that they were not aware that Heritage did not perform all the cleaning on site, and they would not have been awarded this had WSJ known this to be the case. Clearly their site is misleading if trained journalists cannot determine that they send the dry cleaning out to others. Heritage refuses to acknowledge that they are misleading the public, yet in conversations with the District Attorney and the Wall Street Journal we have been told that they do feel the information is misleading. So be aware when you use Heritage Garment Preservation that you are risking your gown. In their responss to our claims via the BBB they stated that they often do wash gowns (in water) that have dry clean only labels as a way of showing that they clean "most" gowns that they receive. They did admit that they send gowns which can not be wet cleaned out to dry cleaners to do that work. But try to find this on their web site ! I would be concerned with any organization which felt they knew better than the manufacturer how to clean the fabric. At this point I are not expecting any refund from Heritage for the cleaning, so their guarantee is not worth anything either, at least not if you want to have the freedom to write reviews about your experience. read more

When I was planning to get married my mom wanted to show my fiance the veil she wore when my parents got married 42 years ago. It was then my mom found out that the veil had been stored in a shopping bag for 13 years by the person who borrowed it and when my mom saw the condition of the veil she was visibly distraught. I just received my dress back, and it is just as beautiful as the day I bought it! I opted for the Essential package - hanging method (so I can sneak peaks at the dress in the closet!) Heritage did a fantastic job getting the makeup off of my beaded bodice, cleaning the dirty hemlines, and even fixing a few holes in my tulle skirt! The customer service team is also very easy to work with - and very accessible! I just received my wedding dress back from Heritage and I am completely satisfied with the results! My dress is 38 years old and had yellowed and felt dirty. I took it out several years ago to show my daughter who was getting married and no one even wanted to touch it. While Heritage Garment Preservation is neither speedy nor inexpensive, they do a beautiful job. My mom sent them my wedding dress at the recommendation of my aunt, and it just arrived, exquisitely hung in an acid-free cotton garment bag labeled with my name and wedding date and extensive instructions on handling it in future. (A little sad--there I was, dragging it in the dirt on my wedding day, and now I'm scared to touch it!) They even provide a pair of cotton gloves. Obviously I can't vouch for how well the dress will hold up over time yet, but they do have a lifetime warranty (assuming you don't wear the dress again), and you can send it back for re-touching if you're not totally satisfied (as my aunt did with the dress she wore, which had been her grandmother's before her). It's nice to think that the dress will be in good enough shape for my granddaughter to wear, should I have one (and if she wants to), unlike my mother's poor wedding dress, which sat in a box for years and is now hopelessly yellowed and stained. My wedding dress was a dream and I hope it will be a family heirloom. After spending hours searching for "the dress" I wasn't satisfied with any of the options (or the pricing!). Fortunately, my mother is an incredibly talented seamstress. We hand designed the dress and my mother did her magic with mixing patterns and altering designs. We went to a specialty fabric store and selected beautiful materials to use. My mother hand embroidered detailing on my dress. For evenings leading up to the wedding my mother custom fit the dress on my body. These are memories I will treasure forever. The day of my wedding I heard what every bride appreciates: gasps and ahhs over my wedding gown. It really was a dream. And then came pictures. My darling husband wanted to do some artsy shots in the nearby woods. I was terrified of damaging my dress. Though he tried to carry me (quite a picture) my dress still took a small beating. Add that to an outdoors reception, the white at the bottom was looking quite dingy. After an amazing evening, our classic 1930's chauffeured car broke down on the way to the hotel. Another picture. After waiting for a replacement vintage car, the owners did a switcheroo and brought a personal vehicle to pick us up. It was filthy. My husband squoze into the back seat (two door car) and I sat in the front. It was covered in french fries, old stains, and filth. By the time we got to the hotel, the bottom of my dress and the back was a disaster. In tears I worried that my dress would be ruined and not be able to become the family heirloom I had hoped for. Cried too soon! My sister had used Heritage Gown Preservation and assured me that they would be able to help. I sent my dress in.... voila! My dress is back to near perfect condition. The few tears were gone and the hem looks fresh. The appliques on the bodice were fixed and no stains remaining from the day's adventures. I couldn't believe it! Heritage cleaned my sisters gown while she was out of town on her honeymoon. When my sister got back into town and I delivered her gown to her she opened the box and looked it over. The packaging was nice but she noticed stains on the hemline area and in the chest area. She was very disappointed. I give them 2 stars because the cleaning should have been done better and it is such a hassle to send it back to Heritage. i found this company online and they had such great reviews, decided to take a chance. I'm getting married in june and my wedding dress was actually purchased from a friend who was married 6 years ago in the same dress. Although the dress was in great condition, it hadn't been cleaned since my friends wedding day, nor stored in any way. Heritage was able to remove all stains for me, they were very honest and fair with the pricing seeing as i was just interested in cleaning and not preservation. Heritage Company did an outstanding job preserving my 18 year old wedding gown. Unbeknownst to me, when I took it to the local cleaners they put it in this preservation box thing with tissue paper. BAD. This was by no means the way to preserve this gown. So, I planned to take out my wedding gown this past year and display it on a mannequin in my sitting room. Much to my dismay, the gown made of raw silk and heaving beading on raw silk on the bodice was HEAVILY stained with brown spots in several places on the dress. Sleeves, front of the dress and even the veil. I was heartbroken. After reading the reviews about Heritage Garment Preservation, I decided to give them a call and see what they could do.... Why are they so good? Here is why. 1. They can give you an estimate online. 2. When you call you get a real person and not a robo answering machine. 3. You can tell they truly love what they do. 4. They will try their best to remove stains - and I mean DARK brown stains to your satisfaction and to their satisfaction, which believe me is above and beyond what you would imagine. 5. They send you a box to put your wedding gown in with the postage. 6. After you send it to them, they will give you pretty regular updates on how the gown is coming along as far as cleaning and depending on your damage issues. 7. No, when you have tough stains that someone is cleaning and getting out by hand, you should NOT expect a quick turnaround. This isn't a quick fix and you should not rush them. 8. They will send you emails in order for you to feel comfortable with the process and even call you. 9. I chose, like many others, the "Museum Preservation Method" and was all very pleased. The gown will come in what I would call a floor length, canvas type bag, with little bow ties on the front, which is durable and protective, and you can also personalize a little card on it with the names, dates, location of your wedding. A nice touch. It comes with these little white gloves, for when you do handle the dress. LOVE. 10. My dress had beading on it and those were kept intact and all the stains couldn't be detected, including a champagne stain on the front, which was lighter than the heavy brown stains. I am crazy excited for my dress to be stored in perfect condition. I looked everywhere for the perfect way to preserve it and finally decided that this would be the best place for me. From a very skeptical bride who loves her dress and wants her future daughter to wear it/use the material while realizing she won't want to :)... nevertheless, I sent my custom dress which is solid white, delicate lace with hand beading (and a very dirty hemline from our beach wedding). My dress came back spotless, well packaged during transit, and my expectations were exceeded. Yes, the price for the preservation was on the expensive side but that's a given when considering anything wedding related. I can't make a comparison to other wedding dress preservation companies but I did find this company to uphold their end of the bargain. I didn't take advantage of their discounts (because I didn't know of them until after paying) but they have regularly changing discounts posted on their website. Including shipping to and from, it took my dress less than 2 months to be processed. In my experience, this company sends regular emails and accepts calls inquiring on the status.
