There is plenty of beer at this pub with a good range on tap. The bistro is reasonable with lunchtime specials and each night there is a cheap special happening, whether a steak, schnitzel, or seafood platter. Pick a night and there is fresh food and a good atmosphere happening. Customers can take their meals to the upstairs verandah and watch the river flow by. There is renovated basic accommodation which is clean and roomy. Several rooms have French door access to the verandah... the best rooms. I have stayed here several times. This time the tariff was up by more than $20 and this is probably due to the other pub in town renovating and also the passing trade has been diverted due to the town bypass.

It felt comfortable and nice and it brings joy to our family to just stay there, and I promise you I don't say this easily! It felt clean, and it felt pleasant. I never really been to Macksville before and I will totally come back just to stay at Mandarin again! Meiling and Jason made such a difference for the joint. Courteous, kind. It was just a joy to deal with as well. It's a no brainer. Just come and stay here!

If I had to pick anything to complain about it would be a few dirty spots on the side of the tent. Some people might not like hearing the kookaburras early in the morning but I love hearing them.

When we arrived we discovered that we had accidentally thrown out some items from the car that weren't rubbish while we were at the station, including a set of AirPods and a case that had been a Christmas present from that morning. I rang the station and asked to see if I could return to search through the garbage bin and to find out when they might empty the bins (as we had a family dinner to attend). Instead Janine offered to talk to the cleaners and, as I discovered later, went out to the bin herself to search through the rubbish. She called me back to say she'd found the items and they'd be waiting for me when I could get there later that night. I drove back to Nambucca that evening and Janine was still on duty and retrieved the items for me which she had washed because something had spilled on them in the bin. It was a busy day leading up to Xmas and i'm sure the staff at the BP had been flat out all day but she wished me a merry Christmas and sent me on my way. I'm not sure who I need to speak to at BP to let them know what an amazing gem they have in Janine. She went above and beyond and we are very grateful for her kind assistance. It has been the highlight of our holiday receiving such unexpected kindness.
