If you love your pet avoid this place at all costs. They have our dog in their system as "a problem" and now want her muzzled and sedated to bring her in. All I can tell you is she is you is she terrified of the staff there. I do not know what happened to her while she was in their care, what I can tell you for a fact is she goes into a complete panic mode when we pull into the parking lot. When the staff enters the exam room she cowers under the table and tries to hide behind us. Yet, she is labeled as "a problem" child. What I also can tell you is she loves her new Vet and they have been told us multiple times "how good she is" and "how sweet she is", you tell me where the problem is... It's not with the animal... Just please trust me, I have taken dogs and cats to HAC for decades, but that has now ended. read more

My dog's face was very swollen and he was in a lot of pain. My usual vet, who's excellent, wasn't available as his office was closed. I called the next nearest vet, HAC, and they got my dog in within 30 minutes. I cautioned the staff that he's a rescue and can be very skittish and snappy. They examined him, diagnosed the problem and gave me the meds needed to treat his condition. They were wonderful! read more

I did not enjoy my experience and this was my first appointment with a new puppy. Let me clarify that I had accidentally booked with this vet thinking I was going to a different vet but my dog needed to go ahead and have some vaccinations and not wait for a new appointment. They did a fine job as far as a appointment goes. I didn't feel very welcomed as a new customer. No one really explained anything until the doctor brought my dog back from taking her in the back and giving her shots in an examination. They didn't perform any of the examination in front of me which made me somewhat uncomfortable because they didn't explain what they were about to do at all. On top of that the place felt like it could be cleaned up a little bit better. I do expect to see animal fur when I go into a veterinarian location however it was everywhere and on every piece of furniture and I left with fur all over my clothes. I have a golden doodle which does not shed at all so I had other animals for all over me after I left. They recommended that my dog gets some ear wash and wanted to charge me $35 for a bottle of it. I had a hunch that it was a lot less expensive if I were to buy it somewhere else. I found a larger bottle of ear wash for dogs that was less than half the price. Also there seem to be an overall vibe to upsell me on some sort of monthly plan rather than just making appointments when needed. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I think this one's worth mentioning because I care a lot about my animals and I wouldn't want someone else to have informed me of this before I went in for a visit. read more

Then you call back to book the vaccines and they insist they're going to charge another $60 annual exam fee. Not fair. And the practice manager is not client friendly or accommodating. I could not recommend this place more highly. They treat our animals like their own and they go above and beyond to take care of our fur babies! We recently lost one of our cats to pancreatic cancer. This was obviously devastating, but we were extremely grateful to have the incredible team at Hermitage. He was very young, so figuring out his diagnosis was quite a process. They've had their ups and downs over recent years, but the past two+ years have been better than ever when I've taken my cat there. The administrative staff is KIND, friendly, and very knowledgeable, the Vet Techs are working hard to be thorough and informative, and I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Ray and Dr. Good. A great vet! I was out of town in the Hermitage area and my dog was showing some strange signs of possible infection or allergies. I stopped in right at opening time on a Saturday and - as they accept walk-ins - they were able to squeeze me in. They took care of my pup, were upfront about costs (and offered alternatives, both cheaper options and more expensive procedures if I wanted something further looked at), and most importantly they were so nice to my pup! Everyone from the reception desk to the tech to the vet were friendly with my dog, were petting him, and made him feel more comfortable in the new environment. This money-grab wanted $500+ dollars to just look at my dog, and they were willing to turn him away and offer no treatment if we didn't cave into their extortion. Had her first vet visit there a month ago. Really enjoyed the visit we had. Thought we would be coming there for all her vet visits until today. She got spayed through a spay and neuter program so I called today to ask what to do since the vet that did it back home did not send any meds. I just called to ask what otc meds I could give her and they actually told me since she didn't get the procedure there, that costs almost $600, they wouldn't be giving any advice on care. She will not be coming back to this vet office. A simple word of advice on after care is all I was asking. I was not asking for you guys to take a look at her. I should also mention that I was advised by the vet tech during her visit that I could go through one of these programs. She didn't say there would be no advice given on medicine. I really hope that she doesn't pop a stitch because I feel like you guys would let her bleed out rather than fix it because the procedure was done at my hometown in Mississippi. read more

My dog is about 11 years old and this is the worst Vet's office I have ever been to. I arrived on time for my appointment, called to let them know I was there and they said they would have someone call me when it was clear to come inside due to COVID. 30 minutes later I hadn't heard from anyone so I called and asked what was going on. They said they would call me in 5 minutes to come inside. Total wait time in the parking lot ended up being 45 minutes. I only wanted them to give my dog a rabbles vaccine because I was not having a good experience and wanted to take him somewhere else for the rest of his treatments. Then I get the bill and they charged $51 for the wellness exam but nobody even explained to me what that was. The Vet had come in and told me that she weighed the dog and he was a little over weight and she also said she couldn't do the fecal exam or look into both ears because he was too weary of her. So when I got home I called and asked what the wellness exam was and I was told it was taking the dogs temperature, making sure he wasn't breathing to heavy and doing a physical look over. She also told me the fecal exam wasn't included in that which I found odd. I think their communication is seriously lacking and if you are going to charge $51 for a physical exam you should explain what that means to the owner. Definitely will not be revisiting this office. read more

So glad we drove from Nashville, TN, to UGA Animal Hospital on the advice from our primary Vet, Dr Christopher Ray at Hermitage Animal Clinic & the Internal Med Vet at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Franklin, TN, Dr Waugh. Our 8 yr old-ish German Shepherd puppy mill rescue, Lucy, has had constant incontinence since we got her 2 yrs ago. We've chased bladder infections, tried Proin & Incurin, with no improvement. We hated the constant cleaning she would do & the "I'm so sorry" face she showed us when she got up from her bed that had a huge wet spot. The Internal Med Team at UGA truly listened to us & didn't dismiss us due to her age, as all we wanted was to add some quality to Lucy's life. Dr Z and Dr Bartges took extra time to explain all the details regarding the CT scan & cystoscopy results to help us devise a plan of action for her. They started new meds which worked beautifully & we opted not to do any surgery. She is thriving, happier, more energetic and barely any "cleaning" now. We even got a follow up phone call from Dr Z directly a few days after our visit. We were thrilled & truly impressed by the professionalism & guidance from Dr Ray, Dr Waugh & UGA Internal Med Team. I fell for hype of countryside being the best vets in the area for 5 years. After countryside made a critical error that was easily avoidable I changed vets. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I'm no longer waiting hours after a scheduled appointment to be seen. The biggest difference is the time and knowledge the vets at HAC have. I had previous taken my dog to country side for coughing and for advice on how to care for an aging senior dog. One vet said said - it's just allergies, another said it's collapsed trachea here's some steroids for if it gets really bad. Since I'm doubting everything countryside said to me, I took my little dog to HCA for a third opinion on his cough. The HCA vet was completely different ! She asked several questions, including his diet and proposed several different reasons why he could be coughing and what tests we could do, and different meds that might help. She said she would come up with a treatment plan. Something I had never experienced at countryside, where I was just given pills and shoved out the door so they could get to the next animal. 2 different vets at countryside misdiagnosed my dog (never offered testing) because they wanted to hurry up and get to the next patient. They even prescribed pills that would have serious hurt my dog because they neglected to look at recent blood work or do new bloodwork. HCA got the diagnosis right because they took the time to get to know my dog and did testing. Also, the whole office dotes on my dogs. They hold them while they're printing receipts and coo all over them telling me how cute they are. I don't know if they'll hold bigger dogs. But I feel like they would try. Downsides are that they are more expensive than previous vets, but I've found that the extra cost comes with great knowledge, care, and a respect for my time. It's very worth it. And that they are on a busy road which makes me nervous. read more

Missed fatal problems in multiple pets, took us a while to catch on that they just weren't being through.

The cost of everything at this clinic have gotten wildly out of hand. I left a review awhile back after my healthy pups annual visit cost over $400. During that visit we got his flu shot and scheduled an appointment to come back for the second shot 2 weeks later. I would think they would set a shot aside for those with appointments but they told us they were out by the time our visit came so we waited another month for them to get more. Came back in today, finally, for the second shot and it cost $80 for the tech to take him back and give it within 2 minutes. We payed over $40 for the first shot so it cost a total of over $120 to get his flu coverage... that's absurd and so disheartening. Having a dog should not be something reserved for the wealthy and this is going to cause people to not be able to provide proper care for their pets. Our dogs deserve better and owners should not have to go broke taking care of routine things. We officially will not be going back here. There are plenty of clinics that do not charge these prices so please do your research before establishing care here. They also don't give warning or educate their customers on price increases they just get you with it at checkout once you have no choice. I wish I had asked first I just never had an issue paying for his care before coming here. I never leave reviews but I wish I had this knowledge before I spent hundreds of dollars here so I just hope it helps other pet owners! read more

My wife and I had recently moved to the area and needed a vet for our senior poodles ear infection. The first appointment we made to have his ear cleaned and packed cost us over $700 and we were there for 3hours. Never has it cost that much in our life. As a big eared rescue poodle ear infections are common. They shamed us for his infection and after the $700 visit asked us to come back in 10days for a follow up. We had to push it back to about three weeks and explained we didn't have the money to come back. Of course there was no working with payment it was "okay come back when you find one thousand dollars." When we made it back the first thing the vet said was "I told you to come back in ten days" and also said our one year old son sounds like a dying cat and that she and her coworkers found it funny...so welcoming. Beyond making us feel shame for our dogs ear and for bringing our son she said she would pack the ear and it would be $48. When we got to check out the actual appointment was $130 for 15minutes. We were giving a number to fill his new prescription that is multiple hundreds of dollars and delivered to our house, but get this...the vet wants us to bring our dog and the medication into the clinic so she can give him the medicine and take More money. You can't walk in the door without paying $80 that's not including her giving him the medication. They're money hungry and will shame you if you can't give them every dollar you have, even if you explain you don't make the income a vet makes. I would not recommend this place. Go somewhere they love your pet, make you feel welcome and will work with you financially so you are able to provide care for your precious fur baby. read more

I have been taking my animals to Hermitage Animal since 1991.Not consistantly, but in past 30 years I have given them the business for 3 dogs. They will never get my service again. In 2016 I started bringing my 11 year old terrior mix, great service as usual, and this dog was and always has been in great shape. Here it is, since covid 19 hit, they started their own policy, "no human pet owners allowed in the building". You see under their new covid restrictions, you would pull your car up outside, call into the building, then a tech would come out and get your pet for its visit, shots, whatever. So no you cannot be with your dog inside the building, you have to wait outside in your car. And wait for aDoctor to call you. MMMMM....wonder why no other Vet places around town are doing this?....and it kinda strange now thinking about it....hell you can go your your regular human Doctor still, why is it this Hermitage Animal Clinic will not let other humans inside, only their staff. Well, ponder that for a moment....to continue, My dog had her regular shots in February and unknowing to us, her 3 year shot was dues in March. Zoey, my dog, in last six months has been hitting her age, meaning she is slowing down, trouble with leg joints, standing up, doesnt run anymore, and clear signs of dementia and losing weight. The Doctor confirmed much of this in the February visit, from which we were not allowed inside, so the Doctor calls me telling all these bad things we already knew and that my dog is flailing about on the floor and cant get up. Of course, she is old, has dementia, nervous as hell, her owners are not in there with her, what do you expect!! So in March I felt I did not want my dog in the clinic for her 3 year shot without me. I went to the Clinic, had to knock on the door since still their phones still are not working, tell a tech to have a Doctor call me so I can request to bring my dog into the building while she gets her shot. Dr. Ray called me back, I told him same, the dog is nervous and in her last days, I want to be in there when you give her a shot or otherwise I will have to go somewhere else, he quickly responded and with no problem said, "where do you want her records sent". WOW!!! So the hell with any compassion, knowing your dog hasnt much longer and they wont allow this simple courtesy? So this buisiness would rather lose a patient/customer than allow me to bring my dog in for 5 mins while her gives her a shot?? No they dont care if you have on a face mask No loyalty, poor judgement and uncaring and no compassion to you or your pet. There is no logical reason to do this when no other businesses are behaving this way during this pandemic. I guess they have enough patients they dont really need mine . Good luck folks if you take your animal there. I will be taking mine to the Affordable Animal Clinic there in Hermitage/Mt. Just had a Fear Free annual check up appointment with Magnum the cat! Exam room was pretreated with Feliway a pheromone that helps cats deal with stressful situations. It works! Magnum was calm and relaxed throughout the entire visit. We're home now and he is chilling right near me, not hiding as used to be the norm. Many thanks to Dr. Danielle Mannis and vet tech Calla Bush. P.S. They have a similar pheromone for dogs, too. I've now been to HAC a small handful of times with my cat, and they have been fantastic every time. I have always desired to work with doctors/vets who allow patients to have a say in their own care. After all, they are the ones who know their bodies and preferences best, and they will be the ones living with whatever consequences come from care. This clinic does exactly that. I may be more holistically minded than they are, but they are very open to working with my preferences and are always very respectful. That is huge for me. As a wellness practitioner myself, I know how important it is to work with the client to do what will work for and feel comfortable to them. Every doctor and tech at HAC has been more than kind and friendly, and never have I felt rushed or hurried when speaking to them or asking questions, even when they are insanely busy- That takes a special kind of human, and everyone I've encountered there has been like that. They are one of a few businesses that still offer curbside service if you request it, further honoring all of their clients needs and preferences to either come in clinic, or stay in their cars while the techs come out to get your pet or bring medicine. Truly accommodating and respectful to all people's comfort level in all aspects of care, never once questioning other's beliefs or style. Though as I mentioned, I live holistically for the most part, I do know when there is a place for Western medicine, and I absolutely, truly, honor and am grateful for each place I find where everyone is honored and respected and we can all just get along and get the same great care. Truly a standout and model for the way I like to live- I honor your beliefs, you honor mine, we all respect and are kind to each other, and everyone is happy and healthy. I had to board my dog for a few nights to travel for a family emergency and I thought that I would give them a try because it was close to home. Upon my return, my well behaved dog took a massive pee in my car, was dehydrated, and starving. They also must not feed them high quality food because his bowel movements were very uncomfortable for him for a little while. I'm not sure how anyone can leave their dog at this clinic. .. We have not had a good experience with this vet. Alarmingly, my dog went in to be neutered and the first strike, I spent $96 on a blood test a few weeks before (total bill around $400+) for an annual check up. I was told if I scheduled him to be neutered within 30 days, no need to repeat the blood test. We got it scheduled and took him in, but they forgot and had my husband sign the paperwork authorizing more blood work. I called & she stated, the vet "didn't see it." Then, we picked him up that afternoon. An hour later, they called to let us know they "forgot" to take the needle out of his leg from the catheter. My son removed the needle. When I called (from work) to find out what was going on, they offered no apology and stated they had offered to have me bring him back the next morning. My husband & son removed the needle. We never heard back from the vet, no follow-up until I received a missed call on the following Monday around lunch time. Needless to say, after spending $1,200 on this dog and a cat in a four week period, I am not impressed at all. There are plenty of quality vets in the area. Maybe they are trying to get it together, but I would not recommend this vet for anything major. read more
