The place is amazing- a restored house (or maybe corner store?) fitted out with amazing rooms, done in just the right mix of period and contemporary styles. There's a common sitting room with TV, which we used on the first night when we had the place to ourselves. The dining room is big enough for a big family, and there's a full kitchen which you can use for anything. We just had coffee and heated up leftovers, but it is fully equipped. So, this isn't exactly a B+B- it's BYO Breakfast or whatever- but that works for us. We don't get up for anything at 7am, even breakfast, so a typical B+B can be a waste. This way, you do things on your own schedule. The room was perfect. Comfy bed (though I don't think I would get a pillowtop myself- too poofy.) Dresser, etc., bath with separate shower and tub, everything we needed, done better than our own bed and bath. Free wifi and cable, little touches like good caramels; really, I can't think of anything missing or not up to par. Parking on a quiet side street or in a couple of spaces behind the house. The owner was very friendly, and unobtrusive. She lives nearby, and Brookville is a nice small town. A decent mix of restaurants and shops (lots of places are closed on Sunday though.) Outside, there's a bit of a smell from the Owens Corning factory down the hill, but it wasn't noticeable inside. There's a big lake nearby and a few other attractions. We went ziplining five minutes away. I heard they just did the renovation a year ago, and it is beautiful. Prices are reasonable for what you get- I think $85-120, depending on the room and the day of the week. Wish we could have stayed a week, it was so relaxing. We'll be back someday.

Check-in was easy and the clerk was friendly. The room was clean and nice. The bed is comfortable and the tv was easy to use. The hotel is quiet at night and I had the best night sleep in a long time. Rooms are equipped with coffee maker, fridge, microwave, hair dryer and safe. The WiFi was easy to connect. A small workout room is available for guests. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available all day in the lobby. The Seattle's Best coffee is good. I saw several conference rooms and an outdoor patio available. A lounge is supposed to be open in the evenings, but was closed during our visit. A complimentary breakfast is served daily. The breakfast was very good with hot and cold options. My husband made a cinnamon waffle and a full plate of sausage. I had eggs with a warm biscuit. The orange juice is good. Bananas were a bit overripe, but other fruit was fresh. Note: There is an added charge for use of the safe, but we did not use the safe, so we were refunded the fee. We told the desk manager upon check out. I'm not sure why they even have this surcharge ($1.75) as it is annoying and detracts from the great stay. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend highly.

I was told at check in that if I used the in-room safe, I would be charged $1.87. What that means to me is that I will not be charged if I don't use it. I did not use it but was charged anyway. It is just one more of those petty charges corporations tack on in order to market the room at one price but charge another. Perhaps it is silly to react this way to a $2.00 charge, but I resent it.

I'm a city girl, and I was wary of going to an unfamiliar and very rural area, but as soon as I stepped foot into the bed & breakfast, I felt immediately at home. The first night I got there, it was pouring rain and I couldn't see well. I parked in front of the house and Tari kindly told me I could leave the car there until the morning and she showed me around and made me feel immediately at ease. Tari and Scott actually live off of a little road towards the back of the house, but they are within walking distance of the house and always accessible by phone if you need anything. The house is absolutely stunning and comforting, and it has all the amenities you could possibly need. Tari and Scott take great care of the house. It was always in immaculate condition. The furniture and fixtures are beautiful, and there is a fully stocked kitchen (you can take any of the food for the day free of charge--granola bars, crackers, fruit, deli meats, cheese, baked banana bread, bagels, tea, coffee, juice, soda, bottled water, wine, and more!). I practically ate an entire banana bread loaf that Tari baked during my stay because it was so delicious, and of course Tari and Scott will serve you a yummy breakfast every morning upon request. I had some of the best night's sleep in the room I stayed in too. Each room has its own thermostat and there was a comfy down blanket that I slept with every night for the three nights I was there. My drive to Miami U. each morning was less than 5 minutes, and every time I left the conference, I was excited to go back to the house! Tari and Scott are very kind and personable. They truly care about their guests' comfort and happiness. I highly recommend staying here over a hotel. The rates are comparable, and you get so much more from staying here. If I ever find myself in Oxford again, I will for sure stay here again.

Quote of the stay "I feel like I'm in a panini bread sandwich, my feet are being crushed" (referring to the tightest bedsheets, folded under the bed ever. But nicely done on making the bed!) Rooms are clean-ish, lots of black things on the bathroom floor.. Our room's heat was a hot mess - please note it was like 16 degrees outside during our stay....heat was a must. The window unit provides the heat and the thermostat does not - maybe just tells you the temperature of the room. Choice is way too hot or on the chilly side. The drapes - there are none that are not decorative. There is only the white, see-through window liner drapes. The heavy drapes that you might expect to be able to close to block outside lights....no, that's decorative too. Doesn't move and if you're lucky enough for your window to face the parking lot full of bright lights like we were; you won't need a night light or need to use your phone to hit the bathroom during the night. Beyond the drapes, the room was like stepping back into the 90's. The place is pretty dated, the casino looks pretty good. Share the wealth. As we walked into our room, we were greeted by multiple large stains on the carpet. Time for a carpet cleaning and an update. Valet was great! Staff are really nice and helpful (except for the hotel check-in lady - it's not that she was mean or rude, she wasn't. But miscommunication to say the least.) Beds were comfortable, and the shower pressure was great. Check-out was easy and on the TV, leave the key cards in the room.

DISGUSTED BY HOW HOLLYWOOD CASINO HANDLED THE THEFT OF MY PHONE…read more I visited Hollywood Casino for what was supposed to be a special planned outing with my mother (from a nursing facility) and a couple family members. Instead the night ended with my phone being stolen and an experience that has left me completely disgusted with the casino. I knew the exact machine where my phone had been when it was taken. We immediately tried calling it, but it had already been turned off. Having visited many casinos, I am well aware of the extensive surveillance systems they use and how closely activity on the casino floor can be monitored. Yet, despite knowing the specific machine and the narrow timeframe, I was never offered meaningful assistance in reviewing footage to determine what happened. What makes this even more disturbing is that several employees (that I reported it to) told me thefts like this reportedly happened numerous times during their employment there. If this is true, why is more not being done to protect guests and respond seriously when theft is reported? The next day, I did what the casino apparently was not concerned about doing--I tracked my phone myself using the FindMy App. The phone had been sold to an ecoATM located in front of a Kroger. Identification is required to sell the phone through the machine, as well as powering the phone on (which is how the location updated). This helped authorities identify an individual, and criminal charges have been filed. THEN came the most disturbing discovery of all: the individual identified in connection with my stolen phone had worked at Hollywood Casino. I cannot state why the casino failed to provide more assistance or whether the person's employment there had anything to do with how my report was handled. But from my perspective, learning of that connection after receiving so little help raises serious and troubling questions. Publicly available information also showed that the individual had an extensive arrest history. An arrest history does not, by itself, prove guilt in any particular matter, but it certainly added to my concern after learning of the person's connection to the casino. What kind of standards does Hollywood Casino have for the people it employs, and what responsibility does it take for the safety and security of the guests who spend their money there? Casinos have cameras throughout their properties. They have security personnel. They have the ability to investigate incidents on their premises. Yet when my property was stolen and I could identify exactly where and approximately when it happened, I felt dismissed and left to investigate the theft myself. This is unacceptable! I brought my mother there for a special outing. Instead of leaving with a good memory, I left without my phone and with absolutely no confidence that this casino genuinely cares about the people who support its business. I would strongly advise others not to support this casino based on my experience. If you do choose to go, be extremely vigilant. Keep your phone, wallet, purse, and other belongings secured at all times. Do not assume that extensive casino surveillance means you are safe and will receive meaningful assistance if something is stolen. Hollywood Casino should be ashamed of how this situation was handled. I expected concern, assistance, and accountability. What I experienced instead was indifference. I will not return and I cannot recommend this casino to anyone!

The negatives: Construction - this isn't anything the hotel can help but it was a mess trying to get in there and find it because of construction. Bed quality - this was the biggest drawback for my wife and I. The bed was FIRM... like sleeping on a rock firm. We like a softer bed and this one caused some problems sleeping. If you like a firm mattress this may be perfect for you. The neutral items: Breakfast - we left too early to get breakfast so we didn't have a chance to try it. Overall, I would give them another try to see if all the beds were as firm and since there were so many positives.

The restaurant, despite poor reviews from what seems like folks with either unrealistic expectations or simply a poor palette, is incredible. Got the onion soup + brat plate -- worth every penny. Was the place fairly empty when i got in? Sure. But so was the town. I'd go back here in a heart beat. If you read any reviews about this place, read mine. I'm as picky as they come and really enjoyed myself here. In addition, those complaining about the prices of the restaurant.... don't come to LA. You'll just complain all day. To the owners of the hotel + restaurant = great job. To preserve a place that's almost 200 years old, while upgrading certain aspects to maintain an up to date look, is really inspiring.
