I have been to Herm's many times before, however I've always gone with Efrain for my boys cuts. Well my kids regular barber was unavailable and so I needed to take my kids in as walk in. So my kid didn't get the guys name only that it's the second to last guy from the right -_- I am more mad at myself for not going with him and even more upset my son and his dad actually PAID for this horrible cut. This guy manage to take part of my sons eye brow like wtf!!!! His hair line is so far back and both sides look different like he did one number one side and another number on the other. Herms used to be the spot you used to be able to trust just about everyone there but after today.... I just can't take that chance. F€#% us that my son has school pictures and his cut and now his eyebrows are all messed up. Oh oh. Welcome to the east side barbershop. I walked up to Herms to see if they were open and found the shop was popping. The chairs were busy and there were people waiting. Herms looked up and said "yo give us about 45." I said "ain't no thing bruh," and went off to Lowe's for 45. When I came back, the chair was ready to go and we got right to it. Herms is a cool guy and he took his time cleaning up my beard. The beard was edged, shortened, and oiled. We chatted about life, and had the usual barbershop banter. Raider Nation 4 Life. This is the best barbershop in Bakersfield. A very busy place, I think there are eight or ten chairs and they are all full the times I have been here. All of the barbers do good work, and all I have seen are happy customers. For a few dollars more you can get an appointment, that is the way to go. Or walk in and sign the sign in sheet. I have been here with and without an appointment, but it does not take too long either way. There are two TVs in the waiting area, always sport when I have been there, no sound with closed captions. They play music inside, it is a lively place. Everyone seems to be happy to be there, customers and barbers alike. This shop is in a huge plaza, there is plenty of parking. Very professional relaxed atmosphere. My only recommendation is that you make a reservation with the barber beforehand. This barbershop is very famous in town and dose get extremely busy. Appointments do take priorities and walk-ins might have to wait over an hour depending on what time of day and what day of the week. My wife and two small boys (3 and 5) arrived here on a Sunday 20 minutes after opening as walk ins. We expected to wait, and took a number. We we're immediately told that it would take "over an hour, we just want you to know" We said that was fine, and that we'd go run errands and be back. An hour later we returned. My wife asked what number they were on and was told 97. We held 99 through 101. Over an hour later...not one of us had been served. In the meantime, the now serving sign was turned off, so as not to give awareness to which number was being waited on, and a steady stream of friends and associates (who'd arrived long afterward) streamed through the chairs with zero indication to us that we would be served at any point. At the total time waited mark of 135 minutes..we left. We were quiet and polite and extremely patient. Judging by my surroundings, the only thing I appeared to be guilty of was being white. This is not the first time I've experienced this in Bako, and normally I'd shrug it off and move on. But to do it to a three year old and a five year old? Racism isn't unidirectional folks. This morning I took my husband and two son's to Herm's Barbershop. When I walked in, I took 3 numbers and then one barber told me it would be about an hour wait. I said, ok, I will be back before then. We went to a different store, came back before the hour was up. I asked what number they were on, and they were one number away from my number. I brought my husband and two kids inside, sat down, and after an hour more they did not serve us. Many customers went before us who arrived after us, not to mention the fact that we had been there an hour before that to get a number. There was no indication that we would ever be served, and I could no longer expose my son's to such blatant racism, therefore we left. My husband and I went to Herms since his barber moved to this location. To be honest it's quite a drive since we live on the southwest but decided to make the drive because he really likes how his barber cuts and it's difficult to find a good barber. However, upon arriving no one greeted us or asked if he had an appointment everyone just stared at us and continued to cut. When they saw we wouldn't sit down they finally asked if we were waiting for someone. My husband said yes and he was called to the back. While he got his hair cut two of the workers started to play around by pushing each other and eventually went to the back and were throwing each other against the walls. The owner was there and did nothing to control his workers. Complete lack of Professionalism. Won't be coming back we really don't know how this place was voted 2 best barbershop. The owner needs to implement a way for people who are coming in to feel welcomed and know the system and More importantly keep his workers on check. read more

Avoid this place, bad service, HORRIBLE cut. I took my son to this barbershop for a trim, when we arrived there wasn't really any noticeable check in/list of any sort, but assumed there was a method that the 4 barber's including the owner Herm used. After getting passed up twice by people who arrived after us, we were about to leave when one of the barber's finally asked us if we were ready, younger kid 20ish. Not wanting to wait some place else, I had my son hop on the seat, gave the barber very specific instructions, and let him go to work. During the cut, the barber kept stopping to check AND answer text messages. This guy seemed more interested in what he was going to do after work than the person sitting in his chair. Once it was over, he combed my boys hair with gel and it seemed done, so we paid and left. The next morning after he showered my wife examined the cut and saw all of these obvious uneven cuts that weren't easy to see when it was styled, but obvious otherwise. I was looking for the barbershop Vintage Cuts when I found this place. I didn't realize it was in the shopping center East of this one. I will never step foot in this place again. read more
