The entrance I came in through was on the bosque castle side, and I went out the exit on the other side where the museum of modern art is. I was able to walk down that way easily to get to Polanco. I was a solo traveler and I love gardens so I had a very lovely time walking through and looking at the plants here.

On previous trips to Mexico City, I've visited others of Luis Barragán's homes in the city. But I…read morefinally made it to this (perhaps the most famous and most photographed) house by the architect. I'm so glad I finally made it. The home is still owned by the family of one of the two men who commissioned the home from Luis Barragán in the 1970s. They have a website, and you can go and reserve a tour (and then pay in cash for the tour when you arrive). When you arrive, you meet the son of one of the men who commissioned the home, who grew up in the house (his mother still lives upstairs on the third floor, which is the only part of the house that is not accessible on the tour). He gives an introduction in both Spanish and English in the entry hallway to the home, and then walks everyone to the showstopper (that swimming pool!!!). After that, you can wander through the house at your own pace, taking pictures and wandering. And the tour guide/owner of the home was always available if you had questions about the architecture or the history of the home. It was a great tour, and the home is unique and incredible. The house is colorful and creative and yet appears as if it would be very comfortable to live in. Certainly another inspiring example of Luis Barragán's work. As a bit of an architecture nerd who likes to incorporate architecture into my itineraries when I travel, I found the tour of Casa Gilardi to be one of the best things I did on this trip to Mexico City. It's a special place and absolutely worth a visit. (Since it can be a little out of the way, make sure to spend more time in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood - there are art galleries and cafes!)

The wife though,a native of Mexico and much more classy and refined person than I am,insisted that the number one place we had to visit on our trip to Mexico City was this historic museum. She was right of course. I was thinking that we would go there,spend an hour or two looking at some old statues and ruins and be on our way to the next Mexico City taco adventure.Boy was I wrong,she had earmarked an entire morning and afternoon for our visit to the museum and it wasn't enough. This place didn't seem like much from the outside but once you got in,it was truly mind blowing.It's a really big museum,covering in excess of 10 acres. The museum is split into 23 galleries exploring all five major eras in Mexico history starting with the Prehistoric period dating back to 10,000 BC all the way up to Modern Indigenous Mexico which runs from around 1500 to present. This museum covers an enormous amount of time in Mexico's history. Some of the true highlights from my visit. -The Aztec Sun Stone-most likely the most famous piece of Mexico's history. -The Olmec Colossal Heads-Truly breath taking works,visually stunning. -The Maya Galleries-A true display of how advanced the Mayan people were in science,engineering & art. -The Aztec Hall-easily my favorite gallery,the Aztec people were so advanced of a society and this hall does it best to show you all the ways that they were-a must-see exhibit. -The Umbrella Fountain-this sits in the middle of the main courtyard and truly is one of the great works of architecture Mexico has ever produced-it's so cool to see! The museum is located in the heart of Chapultepec Park,so be sure when going to the museum,your driver drops you off at the correct side of the park or else you will be in for a very long walk to the museum. The museum does have a pretty extensive gift shop,so if one is so inclined, it's very easy to find a souvenir or two to bring home. This review has barely scratched the surface of what you are going to experience when you visit this amazing museum,I truly hope if you ever find yourself in Mexico City,you are lucky enough to visit this truly amazing place.

We came with a group to watch Lucha Libre and BOY did we have a blast. The arena is huge, it was PACKED, and the crowd is honestly half the experience. Everyone is cheering, booing, screaming, and completely invested in the matches. You can yell your heart out and just have fun with it exactly my kind of environment. They sell beer, micheladas, clamatos/clamatadas, water, snacks, and plenty of things to keep you going throughout the night. This was easily one of the most fun things we did in CDMX. The wrestlers, the costumes, the crowd, the drama 10/10 entertainment. I genuinely cannot wait to come back and watch more Lucha Libre! ‍

I miss the golden days of wrestling in the 1980's in the US with Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Andre the Giant with their personas and storylines. It was a soap opera but with wrestling. I also loved the GLOW (gorgeous ladies of wrestling... does anyone remember Big Bad Mama?) and their storylines too. Well wrestling in Mexico brings me back to those times. There are a few arenas where you could go to watch live wrestling but at Arena Mexico, they have the most matches offered during the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays). I knew I wanted to see a lucha match, which ended up being one of the biggest highlights of our trip. You can purchase tickets on Ticket Master but it is actually a little cheaper if you purchase it at the box office on the day of. We arrived right when the match started and there were still plenty of seats to choose from. But if you wish to sit in the first few rows, then you have to purchase that online because those tickets sell out fast. But be forewarned that not only objects that could be thrown at the audience in those few rows, but also wrestlers too (but you get the best view for photos and video). Because i wanted to sit further back (although my husband wished we sat in the front row, lol), we were fine with just buying those tickets same day. Anyways, we had such a great time. It was nice to see that there were a lot of locals in the audience and they would chant certain phrases or scream out to the wrestlers that were seen as the villains and also booed. We came on a Tuesday for the 7:30 pm match. After purchasing the tickets, we had to get in line to get pat down. For the most part, women will be lightly pat down by women and men will pat down men. To make the process easier, I just brought my cell phone and cash in my pocket. I left my purse at home. Please note that outside food and beverages are not allowed inside. On the day we visited, the whole show of matches lasted about 2.5 hours. You can purchase food at the concession counters or you can also purchase food from the multiple vendors walking around and selling food and alcohol. My husband and I ended up grabbing tacos very close by afterwards (please note that there are multiple vendors outside selling luchador masks and other memorabilia which we also purchased some items. You can also come early to shop too. But you can also purchase luchador masks at some of the markets but it does seem like there is more variety and very colorful masks here. The prices do vary but seem to cost more here as well). With the restrooms, the ladies restrooms were clean and had plenty of toilet paper in the stalls. The only reason why I bring this up is that in my research to visiting Mexico City, it was highly recommended to bring toilet paper with you every where you go since a lot of restrooms do not have it. You can easily keep those packable travel tissue with you like Kleenex (which I have with me throughout our trip). Overall, we had such a great time and would definitely do it again when visiting Mexico City.

This was such an amazing find. We were finishing up our Eat Mexico street food tour, and we had…read morebeen visiting with our tour guide, Sofia. When she heard my husband had been a professional organic farmer and gardener, and our tour was ending just across the street, she sent us here. We were amazed to find this amazing urban collective in the middle of Roma. The giant tower you see in my pictures if made of water bottles. There are numerous yurts, pavilions, fire pits, rain collection systems, gardens, and so so much more throughout the large area. When we were there, in the late afternoon, a group of people were building a large pavilion, a few college age folks presided over a small group of school age children, a preschool age group was just finishing up, and people were beginning to arrive for a composting class. It was amazing to learn a little bit about the story of the place, the area purchased by local residents after it had been turned into a dump after the earthquake in 1985. They restored the area and made it what they wanted, an amazing area in the very heart of CDMX. It was also so cool that we could just wander in, walk around, and no one minded or cared. Everyone seemed to be happy, pleasant, and working toward some cool project. It seemed very utopian and I'm sure that's what they are going for. Thanks for letting us come in and check it out.
