I have been a loyal customer of Herrschners for DECADES. I sang their praises way back to the 90's. When JoAnns went out of business, I suggested Herrschners (their own brand of yarn used to be fabulous!) to all my crafting friends and associates. The shipping was sometimes expensive, but I always received my orders fast and well packaged. Fast forward to 2025. I needed DMC Floss. Lots of floss. The company offered me a deal on shipping. $1.99 if you spend $35. So I purchased well over the minimum. I received order confirmation immediately from my payment method. But from the Seller - Nothing. Total radio silence. No, "thanks for your order" or "hey we're packing it up". Nothing. In the age of Amazon and other online craft supply companies competing, I expected more. So much more. At the very least, a smoother, more detailed order process. This is 2025, not 1985. Save yourself time and money and order elsewhere. This is not the craft supplier it used to be. read more

Don't order from here. They will recharge your card and send items you didn't re-order. My mom reached out to them and she told me, a lady she was talking to, I know mom calmly explaining what happened and the lady hung up in her face. Mother called back, she told her she's responsible for returning the item and then they would "consider" a return on something they fraudulently charged on an elderly woman's credit card and was RUDE! Herrschner's has really great sales after the Christmas holidays and that is when I ususally purchase my crafts so I can work on them thoughout the year. I purchased a Sunrise Crafts kit and the kit did not include the white felt which was supposed to be included. After reviewing on their end, the representative told me because the order was past the 60 days of purchasing, they were going to charge me $5.99 shipping and handling to send the the felt needed to complete the project. I find this absolutely outrageous after I spending between $200 and $300 a year. Just to forewarn you, make sure you check that all the supplies are included in the kit as soon as you receive it. Don't think I will be purchasing from them anymore. Customer services is horrible. read more

Terrible customer service - really awful. I ordered in early November with expedited shipping and handling for Xmas. Then nothing - just a BS webpage saying the order was ín preparation'. Have ordered from Herrschners for years and always satisfied. Now, no way Jose. Have left two voice mails and one email due to issues with an afghan issue. They can't be bothered to return my calls or answer the email. One time before I was having problems with a pattern and was told they had already reviewed the pattern 3 times and would not do another review, just sink or swim. One lady took it upon herself to get answers for me and found SEVERAL errors in the instructions. They may have "reviewed" but they did not "correct" the errors. And now this. They will send items that you did not order, If the item is returned you will still be billed for the item for months even when you call them to say the item was returned the person will tell you to ignore the billings and then, they will send it to collections. read more

Placed my order on 4/12 to be sent to my post office box. Three days ago (4/22) the PO informed me it had a tracking number, but that my package had not been handed over to the post office. I contacted Herrschners and was told that since my order (more than 1 item) is going to a postal box, the "pallet" needs to be filled before it can be delivered to the Post Office. Well, we are close to 2 weeks now. Will it be weeks or months before the pallet is filled and my package goes to the post office (which has its own issues with deliveries). I placed an order in February. They shipped most of my order but did not include 1 item. They never contacted me about an item on backorder. I had to reach out to them. It took 3 weeks to get a response that the item was back ordered. Never received an update a month later. Again, reached out, and nothing. Kinda forgot about it until August. Took some time to get a response and they said the supplier went out of business and they didn't realize it was never taken care of. I requested any color of replacement or a refund. They said they refunded my paypal account. Took 2 weeks of back and forth to identify that because the order was so long ago, they actually didn't refund it to my paypal and instead would be cutting me a check and mailing it to me, which apparently will take up to 3 weeks too. The prices here are great, but proceed with caution. They can not keep track of missing items of orders. They do not follow up on concerns unless you prod them repeatedly. I recently bought a vintage (1992) Herrschner's Filet Harvest Afghan kit on eBay. I am finishing it today. The kit is defective. The Afghan instructions state dimensions as 44 x 59 inches. There were 12 skeins of 2 oz Afghan yarn included. The actual finished measurement is 70 inches long. My gauge was correct and I did the required 182 rows. I was barely able to finish it all of the way. Have like 1/3 of a skein left. Also the first skein I used was damaged with black marks. Had to use a detergent to clean that up. Glad it is done. No more Herrschner's for me. But the Afghan is really beautiful. read more

It had been nearly a full pandemic year since I made a purchase from Herrschners. During that time I discovered a new line of yarn from Premier (whose shipping charges are even more expensive than Herrschners), so I waited until I found it on sale with this company to place an order. With the free shipping code, I could purchase yarn for approximately two dollars per skein, and that's reasonable, so I ordered from them in January. Now in March 2021 I see they've begun charging most states within the US for sales tax. Honestly, I think that's going to sink them faster than anything. I shop online in order to avoid paying for sales tax; don't most people do the same? Once you institute that charge, you don't distinguish yourselves and there's no reason to prioritize making purchases here. The promotion this weekend offers $5 off a purchase of $29 or more. I figured I could offset the regular shipping charge of $10.99 (for the $20 - $40 subtotal bracket) but then they threw the new tax charge into the mix. Ten skeins of yarn for twenty-four dollars plus an additional eleven ... it just feels as though they're pulling money out of my pocket without telling me about it first, and I really don't like that. read more

Herrschners basically scammed me out of $70 when I ordered online. I ordered $243 worth of yarn and they sent me partial the order missing $70 worth of yarn. I was new to ordering with them online and had no issues before except the time when I was new and since I didn't respond to their email they cancelled the order without telling me. So I missed out on a lot of yarn that was being discontinued. But the worst slap in the face is this. I called a bunch of times and kept getting the run around before someone finally got me to the shipping manager Leann S. and she said because they weighed it and it matched the box I got, basically I received the order and there's nothing they can do. I'm so livid right now, even the bank hasn't helped me. I don't know if it was a mistake on their end but they charged me for items I NEVER GOT. Liars. I am never buying from them again. I had a terrible experience with my first Herrschners Inc. order. I ordered the Halloween yarn back in July. In August I received an email saying the yarn was back order and that it would be shipped early October. When I still hadn't received my yarn by mid October I called customer service. The representative informed me on our call that my order had been cancelled by Herrschners in September. I told her I never received notice my order had been cancelled-- nor did I receive a refund for my purchase. I also asked her did this mean "had I not called I never would have received the yarn or my money ?" She said " yes, this happens sometimes." What!!! Really??? Finally this week I received the yarn I ordered in July-- no apologies or anything. So if you haven't received a shipment you might want to call and check your order wasn't cancelled. Well I'm surprised to read all these bad reviews. At one time I bought needlework supplies from Herschnerrs. I stopped buying when I lost interest. I rediscovered the company when I took up crochet again. I would not buy yarn at regular prices. I do have to say their sales prices are worth it. Shipping during the pandemic took a bit longer but it looks like they worked out their kinks. I received my order within two weeks and there were never errors in my order. I'm not sure what the issues were with the other reviewers but I'm a satisfied customer. read more

Herrschners really needs to take a look at their their customer service. I've worked a lot of service jobs and I understand mistakes happen, and I would have been happy to recommend this company if my issue hadn't been handled so unprofessionally. My last two orders have been sent to my billing address instead of my shipping address. Both times I called to correct the address as soon as I got the shipping notification. The first time, I assumed it was my mistake and paid the UPS change fee. The second time? I was very careful not to make the same "mistake" when I placed the order. How do I know it was their fault? They spelled my name wrong on the shipping label, so it must have been entered by hand. The second time this happened, a rude customer service lady and her rude boss both refused to take responsibility and insisted I "didn't check the box" to enter a different address without even pulling up my account as far as I can tell, and I had no choice but to fork out another 17 bucks. Is treating your customers like this instead of handling a mistake gracefully and eating the fee really worth all these negative reviews? read more

After the last few experiences I have to say I will never order from them again. Poor quality, bad representation of the colors and quality of yarns. The recent knitting project kit I bought didn't have enough yarn for the main color to finish it and I had to argue to get another skein to finish the project. WARNING ON SHIPPING COSTS TO YOU EVEN IF THEIR ERROR: I have been a consistent customer for 20 plus years and never had an issue. In with other items, I ordered a pack of 3 rolls of yarn. Due to a promotion, I got free shipping. I got the wrong color. Customer service told me to keep yarn and they would send correct yarn but I would have to pay $17.97 in shipping! After haggling, I agreed to pay $9.95 in shipping the correct yarn since I was able to keep wrong yarn that was shipped at no cost due to promotion. I thought it was a good compromise. However, I got wrong color sent to me AGAIN! on time crunch I purchased the correct yarn elsewhere. I called customer service to ask for refund on yarn cost and I would mail back both incorrect rolls if they would pay for return ship and reimburse me the $9.95 for incorrect roll sent. Nope. They don't reimburse shipping even when at fault. They did refund me the $9.95 and told me that I could ship yarn back for a full refund with a letter basically begging for refund on shipping it back. Nope. So keeping the wrong yarn on principle of not getting shipping refund based on THEIR ERROR. And, removed myself as a customer from their data base. read more

This company provides paint by numbers kits supplied by several different manufacturers. I had to return my recent purchase because of inaccurate and misleading info on the Herrshners web site. I attached a note to the return along with my phone number, asked to discuss my concerns, and I asked for a refund of shipping costs along with a refund of the kit. I was not contacted . I received the kit refund of $39.98 but not the shipping costs of $33.54. I must add that the info on this kit on the web site has changed significantly. The price has increase, the detailing info is missing and previous negative reviews are missing. Have ordered from Herrschners for years. Honestly have had no product issues. Unfortunately they have changed how they ship which has been a nightmare for my last three orders. Current order made on 3/16/24 and it is still hung up in some kind of FedEx loop as of 4/22/24. I put my order in to Herrschners for some yarn that was on sale that my mom wanted me to buy for her for Christmas, and Herrschners cancelled the order saying they were out of stock of both of those yarns a few days later. That was literally supposed to be my Christmas present to my mom. It was on sale for $3 a skein, when the yarn was originally $12.99 a skein. Due to having a lot of financial issues right now, that was something I could afford to get her, and now that's gone. This close to Christmas they did that. Getting my 71 year old mother a present now that I can afford, is going to be very hard to do. I ordered a latch hook rug kit and had it sent to my post office box. I realize it is not their fault that the post office stated it wasn't addressed correctly (it was correct.) Yarn was delivered to wrong address by carrier. I contacted both the carrier and seller day of. No one responded back for 5 days. After this I was forced to call today. Package was delivered to my neighbors house...stolen off his porch by another neighbor...ripped open and damaged while in her possession. So sad to see low ratings from some. I love Herrschners. They sell awesome yarn kits. Pattern and yarns come in nice zipper bags, so you don't mix up your projects, and their prices are low. I've ordered a ton of crochet kits and have NEVER had a problem, no problem with fast delivery and always had enough good quality yarn for every project with a little left over. I learned about Herrschners from an award winning crochet instructor who taught me. She recommended them and she's used them forever. I've been ordering yarn kits every couple months for about three years, and occasional embroidery kits. I also got some paint by numbers for my mom and some puzzles. Mom loved them. I ordered some yarn in the colors navy and antique white, but when it arrived the yarn was very cheap quality, this was apparent without even having to open the package. The "navy" color was actually more royal blue, almost purple, and the antique white has a cheap yellow tint to it. They don't offer free returns, and when I spoke with a customer service rep. she insisted that I was wrong about the navy color...I'm an artist, I KNOW colors. Don't order from this company!! Ordered baby blanket kit via Amazon. Package was missing two groups of threads in a sealed package. I contacted manufacturer. I was told, since I purchased through Amazon, they could not help me. Going into Herrschners' retail store is going into a needleworker's heaven. The selection is outstanding, with all different kinds and textures of yarn; knitting and crocheting needles, hooks, and notions; and a nice selection of other crafts (such as embroidery and rug hooking), books, and jigsaw puzzles. If you need guidance on your upcoming crocheted afghan, for example, you will definitely find it at Herrschners. Their employees are knowledgeable, patient, kind, and friendly. The only aspect that is less than top-notch, however, is the pricing. Unless they have a very good sale, their prices are at the high end of average. The selection - the variety - more often than not makes up for the prices. In sum, you will have a thoroughly enjoyable experience at Herrschners. read more

If I could give them less stars, I would. The check out process on the site was smooth and then my order arrives. they claim I was over $10 short in my payment. How can that be? Their packing slip, receipt makes no sense at all. Looks like a big scam with made up figures and misapplied columns. The customer services didn't even read my complaint email and just blew me off. Prices look good at first glance but then they inflate the shipping charges so the total equals or exceeds other companies. Over 20% of the cost of the order! I get shipping is expensive but that is over the top. They send you coupons via email but then only allow you to use one per order. It was actaully cheaper to use the online free shipping coupon than any they sent me via email. I used to love Herrschners. As a child, I would pour over the mailed catalogs we received. I am surprised to see the complaints about this company. Back in the late early 70s, my mom taught me how to embroider. The mother of a friend introduced us to this company, and they have been a go to company for any embroidery purchase I need since then. That's decades. Most companies aren't even in business that long. They have nearly all the DMC floss colors, and just about any other needlework supply you could need. As my grandkids have come along over the years, I have ordered a Bucilla stocking kit for them from here. Their prices and shipping costs are on the high side, but I'm happy enough with the quality to go that bit of extra. I usually try to wait for a sale when I can. I highly recommend this company for any type of needlecraft needs from knitting and crocheting, to embroidery. read more
