His place is an absolute ripoff.They lied to me about costs,demanded I take X-rays which I wanted to refuse ,but they demanded I take them or they will refuse to treat me My original X-rays with this office were less than 2 years old The Dr whocame to do my exam wasn't even my regular Dr and I was never told I would be seeing someone else . I'm also self pay and they refused to negotiate a fair charge given they had lied to me about the costs when I scheduled my appointment Do not set foot inside this office ever. read more

I have been a patient here for at least 7 years and up until my last appointment have been generally happy. The front office does an excellent job of communicating, the dental hygienist is amazing and I have always felt welcomed. I chose this office because of the biological aspect and my desire to use natural procedures whenever possible and when I first started, I was pleased that seemed to be the philosophy. I also think, that I should have the choice of what is done to my body and face the consequences of my choice. The past two years, there seemed to be more interventions that bothered me but I thought what do I know, I am getting older and things are probably changing. My last appointment, I was told while I was already in the chair that I had no choice but to get x-rays and that the new policy is x-rays every year. I asked what would happen if I said "no" and the hygienist explained she could not clean my teeth, which really upset me because I had already taken off work and felt like I had to agree. (and just a side note, I do get x-rays but feel like if I don't have problems or cavities for several years in a row it's unnecessary so I was doing every 2 or 3 years depending on how my teeth were at the cleaning) I suggested to the dentist that they should communicate any new policies which he said was a good idea but I have not seen anything since. If I would have been notified earlier, I could have weighed the pros and cons of yearly x-rays and may have even decided to proceed although I feel like if I go to a dentist that claims to be biological I shouldn't have to be forced if I am not comfortable with regular x-rays and don't feel like they are necessary. The added expense since I pay out of pocket also kind of irritated me. I was told this was most likely a new law in Pennsylvania or new insurance expectation but I have since found a new dentist that follows many of the same protocols as Hershey Dental Associates (no fluoride, no metal fillings) but she does not require x-rays yearly and recognize the potential negative impact that frequent x-rays can have on ones health. I also felt like my most recent filling was more sensitive for days, which they said was normal and in total honesty could be true. I have only had 4 cavities in my life and I am close to 50 but I just don't remember the other fillings being quite so traumatic. If you don't care about holistic health and just want a cleaning and a kind dentist, then I feel like this place would be excellent for you. I debated back and forth between leaving because I really appreciate the hygienist, especially since it was difficult to find a holistic and biological dentist in the first place but in the end, anyone who doesn't respect what I want done or not done to my body I feel like I can't trust. read more

5/5 stars all around! I've been coming here for two years now with check-ups every 6 months and have no complaints. All the hygienists are friendly, Alexxa is my favorite, & I've seen multiple dentists here- all are knowledgeable- not super chatty. The check in process works and they have automated reminders before your appt via text/ call. I initially chose this location because they accept my dental insurance, but I am so glad I did and have no interest in switching to somewhere closer to my home. read more

I would give this business a 0 rating if I could. Don't bother making an appointment. Even having an appointment card is meaningless. I just called to confirm my appointment time today and they said they do not have me on the schedule. This is the 4th time in less than a year that they did this to me. I am sitting here looking at my appointment card that I finally found and it says I am to arrive at 11:45. They have no problem charging a patient if they do not arrive for an appointment on their schedule, but they don't keep the appointments they make with customers. read more

I give this business a 1 rating because I had an appointment on March 14th that Hershey Dental cancelled because the dentist dropped me as a patient. However, they didn't bother to tell me. When I showed up for the appointment, an employee informed me of the cancellation and inquired about my receiving a call the previous day. I was aware that there had been a missed call the previous day, and I assumed that I overlooked the voice mail letting me know of the cancellation. I figured I would check the voice mail after leaving the office. The employee called me back to the consultation room to explain that Dr Layton had dropped me as a patient due to what she referred to as a "discrepancy" resulting from service I received the prior year. However, she did inform me that the owner was willing to see me but that the owner had no availability until the end of the month. I rescheduled the appointment with the owner. However, when I got home and tried to find the voice mail canceling the current appointment, there was no such voicemail. I felt rather humiliated. Therefore, I promptly called Hershey Dental back and canceled the upcoming appointment. I will never go there again. The so called "discrepancy" from the prior year occurred when Dr Layton completed work which I specifically asked not be done. I have a regular mainstream dentist, but went to Hershey Dental specifically for the purpose of having 4 mercury fillings replaced, which my mainstream dentist refused to do. I told Dr Layton that the only work I wanted done was the 4 fillings replaced. However, when I saw the proposed treatment plan, there were 2 additional teeth that Dr Layton wanted to work on. I was confused about this as I had recently seen my mainstream dentist and nothing was said about needing work on the 2 additional teeth. Moreover, I had no pain in those teeth and I believe there was no pressing need to have those teeth worked on. So I promptly called office staff to make it clear that I did not want the other 2 teeth worked on. They documented that call. But when I returned to have the work done, Dr Layton went ahead and worked on at least 1 of the 2 teeth that I did not want worked on. I did not realize until it was already done. I became angry when I realized work was done that I did not want. Although I did not yell or use profanities, I was heated and expressed my anger. Dr Layton defensively asked if I wanted her to take the filling out which made no sense to me. I said no. The office manager was called in to discuss the issue. When I again repeated that I had advised them that didn't want any other work done, they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I told them that it was their word against mine. I ended the conversation and left. A day or two later, they called to inform me that they did find documentation in an e mail that I did not want the other 2 teeth worked on. They were very nice and credited my account for the cost of the work I didn't want. I was happy with this and thought the issue resolved until I showed up the other day to an appointment that was canceled by them. It would have been nice if they had let me know in advance so I didn't waste my time. read more

These people are GaRate! I am 49 and until a few years ago had only been to the Dentist 3 times since I was 13. I despised the dentist chair. What got me onto Hershey Dental Associates was their biological approach to the mouth and dental procedures. I was reading about the risks associated with traditional root canals. Having never had one nor wanting one, I read in horror some of the problems. I learned about how "biological dentists" use more natural means and methods. I generally distrust modern medicine anyway so this message resonated. I scheduled my first appointment and was very impressed with their care, comfort and service. A few months ago I had a filling/tooth break and needed a new crown. I scheduled this work along with removing all my old fillings. After two trips I have a new crown and no more metal! My wife and kids are going here as well. It is a 30 minute drive, past several other dentists. We love it here. read more

I agree that the front desk people are very nice. And if you are into having dental assistants working on you instead of the dentist this is the perfect place. I, on the other hand, prefer to pay a dentist for doing his job rather than letting an assistant doing it for him; my first tooth filling, my dentist left to let the DA burr down the corners and also do part of the filling. I've never had any dentist letting that happen. It was also too high and I was hurting for 3 weeks AND still sensitive. It also takes me forever to schedule an appointment, and if u don't make it, they'll charge you for missing the appointment. Very disappointed. In response to Ryan's comment, I've been to many dentists before and I've never been that uncomfortable with the quality of care. Your "supervision process" failed because the results speak for themselves. Not only was it high, there's also a corner that's uneven now which I didn't notice until my numbness went away. Yes, NP's and PAs can help with certain things but the MD is always ultimately responsible for the result. That's why they're always supervised. Yes, the high filling can be adjusted but waiting over a month until the next appointment is not what I called acceptable. As for the cancellation process, I never "confirmed" the last appointment when prompted by txt and email. Yet I was still considered confirmed?! What's the point of sending those out if I'm still considered a confirmation either way? Needless to say, you've just lost an unhappy customer. BTW, nice move in comparing yourself to a spa service. I know plenty of other good service businesses who don't charge their customers for unable to make their appointments. read more

My family moved to Hershey Area 3 years ago and we are so pleased with care we receive at Hershey Dental Associates. From the moment you walk in, you are treated with the utmost care and never see a wait time more than a couple minutes. They are very modern with technology and still as biological as possible. Had my first appointment the other day at this office. I have never had a more thorough dental exam. Dr. Layton was wonderful! She took her time with me, answered any questions I had. Everyone there was very friendly. I would highly recommend this dental office. read more

Dr. Buehner and Brandy the Manager/Hygienist are fabulous! We bring our entire family here and they do an amazing job with the kids. Brandy always streams children's programming for the kids to watch while they get their teeth cleaned and Dr. Buehner is always personable. I brought my daughter in for a checkup and left feeling like the worst mother due to the fact Dr. Buehner made the entire visit about my other two children who were with us and the snacks they were eating (organic crackers) and how I shouldn't have given them those and they should immediately brush after eating any snacks, same with my daughter that she shouldn't have any sweets, Gatorade during her sports, and brush after eating anything. My kids have good teeth/health and I honestly felt like the entire visit was a personal attack against me. This was the first and last time my daughter was seen by this dentist and she told me she never wants to go back because of how rude he was to us. read more
