Very uncomfortable place. Bed was so springy. No tissues in room. 2 small towels 2 wash cloths. The pillows were flat. No alarm clock or clock period!! Except for 1 on microwave! The pool.....full of kind da not being watched. Splashing and doing cannonballs right in front of those trying to relax on a chair! The restaurant. ChopHouse wasn't bad. One waitress must have been in a bad mood because she was very short with us. We had to leave early due to a medical emergency and we got all but one night back SSH is very over priced and I'm pretty sure I will never go back!!!! read more

We stayed here for a friend's birthday trip. The other couple had stayed in this hotel before and said it was decent, which I vehemently disagree with. Let's start with price: outrageous. Absolutely outrageous. For a place like this, with its "amenities", I'm awestruck. Apparently the price was good for a seaside hotel? I have no idea. Upon check-in, we found our room to be on the second floor. Inside we found a green carpet that was questionably damp and oddly cushioned, adorned with ground-in lumps of chewing gum. The beds were... well I'll cover that further down. Directly inside the door was a TV straight out of 1998, perched precariously on a stand, the failure of which was a definite possibility. The other furniture was standard, however the dresser was pretty beat up and old, as was the single night stand. There were two armchairs by the window that looked to have been set pieces off of a low-budget '80s porno. On the opposite side of the room from the door, there was a door-less doorway that lead into an odd antechamber for the bathroom, which is where the surprisingly modern air conditioner was perched. A minifridge sat on a shelf and rattled at me, and there was a decent sink with a mirror. The bathroom was all right, not exciting, but not terrible. The water from any tap, though, can get "burn your face off" hot. You have been warned. Also, the light "fixture" was just a couple of fluorescent bulbs behind a plastic lattice piece, and nothing prevented me from being able to see the insulation between the floors. Now, I didn't notice this, but the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom was actually warped away from the drop ceiling (yes, a drop ceiling. Gross) in ripples, as if a large amount of water had come flowing down from above. We stayed two nights. Allow me to recount the experience of the first night. It was unseasonably cold for August, and I can attest that the light wool sheet and thin coverlet were inadequate. That, however, was easily forgotten after laying in the bed for more than 10 seconds. Immediately I noticed it was firm and lumpy. Not just lumpy, but "old, beat mattress" lumpy. There was a pillow to theoretically rest your head on, but it was so understuffed I could feel mattress lumps under my head. The sheets, at least, were clean and not itchy. There was nothing covering the cloth top of the mattress except the fitted sheet, which I didn't find out until the second night. Falling asleep was a task, because we were delighted to discover the over weight children in the room above us were practicing Irish step dancers, who's complex routines were interrupted only by shrill, indecipherable screaming. The next morning, I awoke unable to breathe properly at 4:30, with a head full from allergies. I am only really allergic to dust mites, and only when there's lots of them, if that's any indication. The bed was still lumpy, pillow still flat, and carpet still weird. Bedding down for the second night, we asked the front desk for more pillows, and received 1 more pillow per person which was a SIGNIFICANT difference. Nothing was different other than I found some decongestant at a Walgreens, and was able to breathe properly. The hotel does give you tickets that cover part of a breakfast at the nearby pub, which deserves its own review. This hotel looks as if they tried to emulate the idyllic seashore hotel from the 1960s back when that was popular, and then just stopped there. It could use some serious overhaul before it becomes anything I would consider "decent". Don't stay here until something major changes. It's downright horrible. read more

I think this place is absolutely GREAT!!! I have read the negative reviews and have seen NONE of the things they state. The staff, from the grounds keeping staff to the office staff went WAY out of their way to make sure our stay was a good one. Room was immaculately clean! While we were here there was a large 'crew' doing spring cleaning and they moved, cleaned and or replaced everything in the rooms. The staff really cares about the guest's comfort and they go out of the way to take care of us. We will be back (in season) and stay again in August. Love this place. read more

Booked through booking.com for my family for 5days-4nights. Rooms were spacious (I was in back building 403) bathroom was clean no mold or soap scum. Breakfast was free but didn't include drinks or meat so by the time u added a drink on 3$ and meat 3$ you might have well gone to another restaurant For same Price. Service in pool area was non existent and they ran out of buckets for the drink specials. So the smaller ones were 6.50 each. Only 4-5 umbrellas at pool area and people would take 1-2 per family early in the morning and leave stuff to hold the table. Even if they weren't using the table. So I wasn't able to spend much time at the pool area with my 2 yo and infant due to no shade. Everyone had their own radios also which made for a loud disaster. Not overly friendly staff but accommodating. Beach was further than thought. 2.5 LONG blocks to Boardwalk. This place without small children would be awesome. My older boys loved the arcade. Not sure if I'd stay again. Gave 4 stars for cleanliness and amenities. read more

Excellent spot! Close to the beach. They upgraded us to first floor. Very quite. They have a great sized pool and bartenders from the bar on the location come to take your order while you enjoy the pool. Be aware, they provide continental breakfast but it's only muffins, toast and bagels. You may be a little hungry later. Another thing to prepare for is beach passes. They are not given on the day of checkout. Overall I had a good experience and I would recommend others to stay here! read more

I have to say, this is probably the best place to stay in Seaside Heights, but this is a bare bones room with a tiny television, 2 inch thick pillows and no toiletries. For a night, I survived, but definitely needs some updating. read more

the hershey motel is in a great location. it is in walking distance to the boardwalk which has rides and a beach. the pool is nice and it is nice to walk right outside. the downside is if you are on the top floor, it feels like you might fall through or your chair might fall over. the rooms are very old. the comforters look very old and not welcoming read more

Had a catered event at NJ Chop Shop. Was using the Hershey Pub. Guests loved it. Every time I am there, the staff is always approachable and friendly. The property is always well maintained and the pool is always clean. I have been there for other events and I have never had a bad experience. American owned and operate by a local family. Could not be any nicer. We need more establishments like the Hershey!! read more

This motel is a typical one. Room was okay. Mattress wasn't too comfortable, but what do you expect? Rooms are big enough to fit six people (room we got had two full sized beds), so plan accordingly! Staff was friendly. The pool is always warm (dunno if that's a good thing), and it always seems lively. It's an okay place. I'd stay here again. read more

Love love love this place! My husband and I stayed 2 months ago and then on Sunday, we brought our family. Believe me when I say I check mattresses when I check in a hotel, motel or resort. I never found anything at Hershey Motel. After this Jersey Shore Motel finally received their Sandy Hurricane Insurance money they remodeled. I know this info because I asked questions when we arrived. No carpeting, only tile floors ....which I love. We have stayed in both buildings. First time room 42. 3 doors down from the bar! Second time we booked 3 rooms in the 400 building. We will book again. Our cars are safe in the lot and it is 2 blocks from the heart of the boardwalk. Trust my review and thank you Hershey Motel for our great Seaside Heights experience. read more

this was the most foul motel I have ever stayed in. the photos are deceiving. the floors are so dirty that right out of the shower, just after walking on the tile, the bottom of my feet were BLACK. when I first unlocked the room, it looked okay until I realized a towel under the balcony door (used for masking the smell of marijuana) and a huge puddle under the mini fridge. turns out, the mini fridge is broken, filled with water & smells like mildew and was leaking everywhere. in the office, there is a sign that says "NO SMOKING INSIDE" but you can clearly tell the manager smokes cigarettes, with her smokers cough and voice, and the office REAKS of stale cigarettes - nasty! better yet, the manager emerged after we had been standing there for 10 minutes, covered in flour and said she "was making pizza". hm, ever consider doing your job first? I saved the best for last - I left a garbage bag full of dirty clothes hanging in the room. CLEARLY not trash, but expensive clothing such as Nike brand, and it magically disappeared. interesting. they're refusing to help any further in recovering my belongings that I left in THEIR motel, that THEY either threw away or kept for themselves. I'll be in contact with police. unless you're an underage kid trying to drink, and you couldn't care less about the bed you're sleeping in possibly having bed bugs with a leaking ceiling, I'd go somewhere else. on top of everything, during the ONE night I was there, I was awake until 4 in the morning listening to a drunk couple scream at each other. Place was extremely comfortable! Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable for not being my own! Pool was a plus and customer service was great! My only issue is the complimentary breakfast... the food was not great at all, the home fries were burnt and my mom had gotten the egg dip French toast and it was extremely soggy and way too wet...I think for the price of the rooms they could be a little better with the breakfast! This was great! Based on the previous review, I was expecting the Hershey Motel to be a dump that overcharges because of its beach proximity but I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful my stay was. I booked a two double bed/pull out couch room for 6 people at the end of June for about $90 including tax. We actually stuffed eight of us in the room and it was great! We had a three tv's and two sinks and the suite looked like it had just been retiled. We had no problem with parking passes and the pool looked so inviting! I'd love to go back! read more

Been here for a weekend with my girlfriend and another couple. My room was clean, wasn't too small, clean bathroom, good size bathroom, microwave, fridge, TV, bed was comfortable, NO bugs, working air conditioner and a table to stack my girlfriend's things on because she packed like we moved there. Friendly staff, never complained if we needed something. I had excellent parking real close to my room. Close to boardwalk, a CVS, and the beach. Military friendly also, 10% off with valid military ID. Best hotel I've stayed at in seaside. read more

Our first visit was great but when we went again in June it left alot to be desired. When we got there the first floor room that was promised to us was not there. (my husband has bad back issues) and they said we would have to see if we would have a room! (really?) The woman at the front desk was rude. We had to drive around for 2 hours and then go back to see what they had. And then no first floor room....made a disabled man climb stairs. We get to the room that they tell us is ready and the door was wide open and had no towels, the floor was wet, and the room not really clean. Plus we were put by the sun deck and people were there til all hours making noise ( we have two children) and sleep was scarce. And there were a bunch of rude college kids in the pool horsing around and no one did anything. So much for a family vacation. read more

Very sad stay off season. Family of 4 were told room they wanted was not yet open for season. That pool was not yet open for season. That breakfast was not yet available for season. The last night we were there that afternoon the college kids arrived. Now the area with the room I wanted is open. The pool is now open. Breakfast available for them. This is a 2 day difference? Was my money not green ?? Very rude treatment when this was brought up to management. Treated like a child. Sad part is we even had to all for hot water because we were in a building by ourselves and they forgot to turn the heater on for us. Terrible! !!!!!!!!! By the way one block from the beach is crap. Almost 3 blocks not sure we're they learned to count. Never return again. Other motel may be happier to take my money. read more

don't overlook the pub/restaurant - the food and waitstaff is Tops. very clean room, comfortable bed(s), nice and close (but not too close) to the beach/boardwalk, super friendly people (check-in people, restaurant people, bartender), and really really really good food. free breakfast usually bums me out because it's a sad table of boxed cereal and stale pasteries, but this place offered breakfast MEALS. we both got the american - 2 eggs, homefries, toast - and both times it was delicious: eggs weren't greasy, toast wasn't butter-drenched, and the homefries were richly flavored... and FREE we stopped into the bar for a drink on the 2nd night, and ended up eating there because the bartender (melissa) was so cool. the boy got the pineapple express burger (recommended by melissa) and licked the plate clean; i got the caesar with shrimp - the shrimp were succulent and sweet salty like i like. bonus points because he wanted a different side, and they gave all kinds of options, and he ended up with carrots - those mini carrots that look a little gourmet -- accommodating and delicious. the only thing keeping this from 5 stars is some room stuff- the A/C was a little weak, the sheets and towels were kindof starchy/old, and the wi-fi didn't work for us. would Definitely return. read more
