It was only 240 euros for 3 nights, and she met us at the train station when we arrived, showed us to our place, and gave us maps, train/boat/bus schedules, and coupons for 10% off at a store she works at, as well as at her brother's restaurant (delicious fritti mist!) She made us feel like family and was very attentive...and saved the day when I accidentally locked ourselves out of the apartment! She luckily had a spare key at her shop and was able to let us in quickly. I would highly recommend this rental and I am already planning my vacation for next year right back in my new favorite village in Italy, Riomaggiore!

The husband and I each had a pasta dish we found to just be ok but not super flavorful. We shared the second course of steak with a few fried potato wedges and condensed veggies, and we found it to be the same flavor-wise. The steak temp was cooked perfectly though. That's all we had room for as we are just not accustomed to the Italian multi-course meal! We loved the view and the service and would definitely return and just try something else on the menu.

Friends and I came to Manarola for a one night stay away from the hustle and bustle of busier cities like Rome and Florence. La Scogliera is not very far from the train station and at the bottom of the hill (a blessing because this hill is VERY STEEP). My friends and I began exploring for dinner options and only had a couple of options since it was later in the day and February is considered their off-season so a lot of businesses are not open let alone the impact of covid and travel. We opted for this restaurant and we're quickly seated as soon as we arrived. We immediately felt apart of the community as the inside felt very homey and like everyone had known each other for years. There were plenty of options on there menu but the waiters recommended seafood and their pesto options so that's what we went with. The calamari that we received was like no other I've had. Seasoned to perfection, not overly breaded or fried and large! The pesto pasta was delicious despite it being so simple. And my friend also had vegetarian lasagna which was also delicious. When we arrived, they let us check in our luggage prior to check in and after while we explored Cinque Terre. We booked the very small bedrooms, which made efficient use of the space and had a lovely outdoor patio area. If the weather had been warmer, we would have spent some time out there. However, the biggest highlight of the hotel for us was definitely the breakfast. Breakfast was included with the hotel reservation. Normally it's served on their rooftop balcony where all the lemon trees grow, but due to the weather, we dined indoors, which was just as lovely and more comfortable. Highly recommend Eraldo's crepes with their lemon jam sauce. Three of us ordered omelettes and each omelette ended up being garnished differently. It felt like a home-cooked meal. You could see the staff mixing the batter at the front. Their smoothies also used real fruit, and they had a unique lemon smoothie worth trying! I was surprised how it was more sweet than sour. Then there was the yogurt with lemon curd, the freshly-baked focaccia, croissants...I could go on and on. It was definitely THE BEST BREAKFAST we had during our trip to Italy. After we checked out, the hotel staff allowed us to leave our luggage while we continued to explore more of Cinque Terre, and when we officially checked out, they gave us a complimentary heart-shaped fridge magnet featuring Monterosso. Just a few…read morehundred steps from the water, Albergo Marina (aka Hotel Marina) was the polar opposite of our hotel in Rome, in an expected, excellent way. The hotel has five floors of uniquely styled rooms with varying layouts, furniture, and views. We had an L (ish) shaped room on the second floor that looked out on the "street" (more like a cobblestone path) with two separate terraces that we could walk out and sit on. Views of the water are very hard to come by in this part of town, but we were able across some rooftops and up into the mountains. Sitting on the balcony all we could hear were footsteps, animals, the wind, and a constant stream of water heading towards the ocean. No cars fit up anywhere near here, so we didn't hear a single engine from our room. The bed was comfortable and warm, and nice and big. Just FYI, the king size bed is actually two not-so-king mattresses next to one another, so movement during the night could create a bit of a gap in the middle. The shower was amazing, larger than I thought it would ever be for a place like this and the rainfall shower head and water pressure were the best. The free breakfast was nice and simple. Coffee, juice, tea, pastries/bread, as well as omelettes and pancakes made to order. They offered a mid-afternoon snack, and a room here gets you into a free pesto tasting that happens every day from 2pm-3pm just down the street. They have free WiFi, which happened to be much faster (11.12/1.89) than the WiFi at our previous hotel in Rome, and enabled us to stream 1080p Netflix at night without issue. The staff here was extremely nice, and provided us with excellent recommendations on food, drinks, and things to check out while we were in town. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Monterosso, especially when it gets warmer and you can leave the windows open 100% of the time.

I can't quite tell you how much this hotel means / meant to me…read more Every Summer, every year, for twenty years, my family would spend two weeks at the Augustus with a large group of friends. Until the Russians came. Forte Dei Marmi is a fickle place: like the Cannes of Italy, it is subject to the whims of the fashionistas, and therefore becomes a plaything for whichever country is having a currency cash flow. In the twenty four years I've been going there, I've seen the place over run by the English, then the Germans, and now the Russians. For twenty years, the manager of the Augustus, and most of the staff were like a second family to us: coming there every Summer was like coming home. But then the Russians over ran the place with their big tips and even bigger breasts, and suddenly the hotel didn't want to know. They went from booking us the same rooms at the end of every Summer to becoming pushy and difficult about finding any rooms at all, and suddenly all the old regulars moved on to other hotels...including us. The thing is, yes the hotel is beautiful, yes, it is one of the best places to stay in Forte, but compared to the rest of the world, it's actually just a rather tired and old fashioned hotel. It really pains me to say it because it means so much to me - and the sister / annex hotel, the Lido, is still beautiful and one of the most charming places I've ever stayed. Throw in the fact that you're paying three times the price as you would in another part of the world, and you're not really on to a winner. If bling bling and caviar is your thing, head to the Augustus; if not, find another hotel which will really showcase the charm of Forte.
