Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service. On April 20 I reserved a compact car with a manual transmission for pick up at the Dublin Airport on September 5. Clutch went out on second day of rental (I have always driven a manual transmission car), and I was charged 200.00€ for a "breakdown callout" plus 39.88€ additional fuel charge. We missed a good portion of one day of touring time, plus I had to call the Hertz Dublin Airport location several times before they finally showed up with a car. When I returned to the US and called Hertz, explained the situation and said I wanted a refund of the breakdown callout and additional fuel charge, they said I needed to deal with the Hertz Dublin location! Nothing but run-around, and I'm stuck. Never, ever, ever rent from Hertz in the U.S. again and especially not the Hertz location at the Dublin Airport. read more

Warning!! Warning!! Rent from anyone else. Absolute robbery ! Our experience in October was a disaster. We reserved through our travel agent in the US. Upon getting to the airport, there were approx 100 people in line, all anxious to get their cars. Everyone rushed and harried..Agent pressured us into getting a larger car, saying my husband wouldn't fit into the original VWGolf. We were not apprised that tire insurance was even available. (our pre-paid insurance did not cover tires, which we knew) So off we go in an Audi A6, 5 miles from airport we hit a curb and damage tire and wheel. A stranger changed the tire for us and we went back to Hertz to exchange cars. You can't drive very far on a spare/toy tire, BTW. Now here's the kicker: don't sign anything when you bring the car back because your signature means you agree to the damage charge. We signed the paper under duress, the eastern European agent telling us we couldn't get another car if we didn't sign, and take it up with the agent at Shannon when we return the car, yada yada yada. Hertz charged us 940 Euros /$1140 for the tire and rim. We did pay them what we and everyone else except Hertz thought was fair, about $400 for the tire and rim. We challenged the case through Capital One who did go to bat for us. 50 days later, we LOST the case! Reason??? We had signed that paper which essentially gave them permission to charge our credit card. They sent us pile of un-readable, faxed papers as "proof". So very wrong. Moral to story: don't sign anything AND make sure you get tire/wheel insurance! The tire scam is a huge one in Ireland. Wish we had known that...we'd have rented with another company. But be careful, there are several other car rental companies but they are under the Hertz banner. Lesson learned too late...next time we'll go on a bus tour. Hertz absolutely ruined our dream trip to Ireland by their predatory, unscrupulous practices. BTW, my husband fit just fine in the original VW Golf. read more

Terrible Experience. DON'T rent from here!!!!!!!!!!! We arrived at the Hertz return area in Dublin Airport. As we pulled in, a lady approached the car and started to look at it. We turned off the car and as I opened the door she asked with a big smile, 'What happened?' I got out of the car and she asked again, 'What happened?' I asked her what she meant. She stated that there was a bubble in the tire and brought me to see it. She asked again 'What happened?'. I told her nothing. We did not have any problems. We took pictures of the car and she stated that there were no other problems. We went into the small building and she stated that we were responsible for the tire and requested that I sign a form. It was all very confusing and rushed and I declined to sign the form. She tried several times to get me to sign the form, but I declined and I requested to speak with a supervisor. She stated it would make no difference and did not call for a supervisor. She gave me a card with someone's name and stated I could call him. As it turned out there was no phone number on the card, only an email. I sent him an email, he did not respond. When we arrived at Dublin Airport 10 days earlier, we went to the Hertz counter. We had a reservation and discussed the car with the clerk. She stated that the car we had reserved was probably too small for our luggage without using the backseat. We decided to do an upgrade for 15E extra per day. We also bought the insurances. With all the fees etc. it would be about $1200 USD for 10 days. We went downstairs to pick up the car and checked the tax sticker, which is similar to the US car registration. It had expired.... This had happened to us in the past in Ireland and we had received a ticket in Galway. We told the attendant, but she said it was ok to take the car. This did not sound correct, so back upstairs I went to speak to the upstairs clerk. She spoke to her supervisor and returned to say that we needed to change the car and called someone. We finally did get a car with a valid tax sticker and were able to leave the airport. They charged us for the tire and in the end it cost us $1600 for 10 days or $160 per day!!! They also charged us in US dollars instead of Euros without asking. It is more expensive in USD than in Euros, so I am sure they got a few extra dollars for that. We had no problems or accidents and it is possible that the bubble was there when we rented the car. I felt like I was caught in the gold ring scam we saw in Paris. This is the second bad experience we have had renting a car in Ireland. I really think that the government should regulate this and there should be some kind of fair comprehensive insurance. This type of thing is a major negative for tourism in Ireland and with so many wonderful places to visit in the world, I doubt I will return. read more

Worst airport rental car service. Waited an hour just for shuttle bus. Now standing on a two hour line just to get a car--- and I am a hertz gold member. It's disgraceful. NEVER book a car through Hertz again. They don't care and have 3 agents to serve 200 people and go as slowly as possible. NEVER AGAIN HERTZ. This is a horror story you would understand seeing in a fly-by-night operation, not a respected rental company such as Hertz. Their reputation is precisely why we chose Hertz for our vacation in Ireland, and for all our other car rental needs. We picked up the car at the Dublin airport with some minor scratches and dents, which were noted on the rental agreement. When we returned the car, the car returns were closed, so we followed instructions and dropped it off at the terminal and turned in the keys to the airport desk and we went about continuing our vacation in England. Four days later we received an email for the Ireland location stating there there was a nick of paint missing from the bumper measuring less than 2 cm. And they charged our credit card $1,071. The charges included removing the bumper, sanding, priming, painting, reattaching the bumper, towing fees and 2 days rental at the highest rate as compensation for lost revenue. (Are you kidding me!!!!) We did not even notice the damage when we looked over the car before turning in the keys, but pictures were attached to the bill. They appear to show a circular black area on the bumper that could have been a bit of tar for all we know. We did take insurance as required by law, but chose not to take the expensive extra coverage. BEWARE!!! If you are going to rent in a foreign country and they will not accept the credit card coverage available in most countries, make sure you have yourself covered. If a name brand as respected as Hertz will rip you off, just imagine what a no name brand would do. Take lots of dated photos of the car, before and after. PS - the Hertz car we rented from England, dropped off in the same manner (no one to do an inspection, just a drop box for the key), was without an issue. read more

I don't think it is just a franchise issue. The rotten culture comes from the top and permeates down. We hired a Hertz car in Pula, Croatia through Rentalcars.com and were charged one week extra for one days extra hire; they charged us for a mislaid car wallet that was later recovered. They charged us for "out of hours return" even though there is no mention of this on their website which states open 24/7. They also dumped rubbish into the car and charged us for cleaning. The car was spotless and had no rubbish whatsoever in it when we returned it.They even dumped stuff on the seat my wife was sitting on and sent us a photo to justify it. In total, they charged us €130 extra. They're a disgusting company to deal with. You're better off dealing with the lowlife companies because Hertz have broken through the bottom of the barrell. read more

They charged me for 4 x different Insurance products for the 1 vehicle - WTF is wrong with Ireland! Are you all just laying down taking this from your insurers? First of all understand that this is NOT a Hertz Corporate location. When you have troubles with a rental and call Hertz they will wash their hands of any issue and tell you that "They aren't part of our company. We just sold our name to them," Lovely, so the next thing you need to understand is that no matter how much you check ahead of time, they are going to charge you extra fees. Admin fees for not using their insurance. Fees for not proving your car was returned filled with fuel. Lastly, not sure if this is standard or because of my level, but when I rented a car they sent me pictures of the car before hand. The pictures weren't accurate. Not sure what "filter" they used on the pictures but they missed two nice scratches. Had to get those identified so I didn't have to pay for them when I returned. read more

DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT ever rent a vehicle from here, they are out right crooks. My family and i rented a luxury SUV back in May, returned it with a few scratches on the lower front plastic and brush marks on front right fender, i was told they would refund 2.5K of my 5K deposit immediately and once the work was done (buffing fender, fix lower front faring) they would refund what was left of the rest. Needless to say 2 1/2 months later a still have NOTHING and can't get anywhere with them. They should be charged and put in jail, what a complete travesty to the HERTZ name!! read more

RENTER BEWARE! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO RENT WITH HERTZ. Ill try and make this quick even though the experience was just the opposite. I Didnt think renting a car from Hertz could run our vacation but it did. What a disaster it was not only with the car itself but the customer service that goes along with it. I gave Hertz the benefit of the doubt because its such a large company but I guess I had to learn the hard way. What a bunch of THIEVES! We picked up our 7 person van from the Dublin Airport location as happy as could be. Even the 45 minute line couldn't upset us that this point. We got on the road and everything was fine the first day/night. We got up the next morning ready to get on the road and we realized that the middle seat was stuck in the down position and could not be lifted back up in order to fit our party of 7 safely. We called the help line to see if they could bring us a new van or help us in any way because it was not safe to fit 2 people in our party without seatbelts. We were stranded and forced to take the van into a shop nearby to see if they could fix what turned out to be a manufacturers warranty issue. I understand how things happen but its the way HERTZ dealt with the issue thats so frustrating. We spent a few hours in the shop only to be told they couldnt do anything to fix the issue. The shop then called HERTZ to explain what was going on and the representative took another hour before calling us back to explain that they were not going to run us out another van unless we paid them a fee to do that. Now we have to drive the van to the 2nd VW shop in town to have them look at it now. By the time we left the VW shop, our day was pretty much over and we had to borrow a relatives vehicle for the remaining part of our trip to make sure we could get everyone around safely. After dealing with Hertz poor customer service and lack of ability to solve a simple problem for 3 days, everyone was exhausted and just wanted to get rid of the van. We turned it in early and reported our problem to the store manager. The manager then told us that nobody had written any notes in our file and that we should take the time to now email him a detailed description of what happened over the last 6 days. Im not even going into all the details of this pathetic experience. After everything was said and done, we wasted over 2 whole days on this issue and never got we what paid for which was a safe vehicle to transport 7 people. Our final bill after everything, was over $1450 for 5 days. After going through a 2 month battle, this pathetic company gave us $140 credit. LOL. Ill never use this company again and I hope that everyone that sees this takes it to heart and doesnt get the long stiff shaft of HERTZ like we did. read more

Sad to say, I have to join the long list of negative reviews of Hertz, Dublin Airport. I was aware of the reviews when I rented from Hertz in May-June 2018. But I was sure (too sure) I would not make any mistakes in driving. I was careful not to park too close to the curb lest I scratch the wheel cover; careful not to drive in the dark of night in case I would catch a bank of earth on an N road; etc. After washing and vacuum cleaning the car as completely as I could before returning it, I was confident the inspectors at the return centre would find my VW Golf diesel exactly as it was when I rented it. Not so. The "inspector" went around the car with his camera and clipboard, searching meticulously for the slightest scratch. He found one, so he said, on the left rear wheel cover. He waved a photo in front of me, taken (purportedly) when I rented the car, and insisted that the slight scratch, barely visible to the naked eye, happened on my watch. (Unfortunately, I did not study every tiny detail on the photos when I rented the car). I thought there would be a slight charge for the tiny scratch on the wheel cover. Not so. 165 Euros !!! The scratch is barely visible to the naked eye. The "inspector" said they had to charge the maximum for such a scratch. Heads up: When you rent from Hertz, Dublin Airport, be aware that you must return the car in exactly the same condition it was in when you rented it, ... as though you had not used the car at all !! In short, like so many other reviewers, I have to say that I would not rent from Hertz, Dublin Airport, again. read more

I was CHARGED for a FLAT TIRE!! I had full coverage and was charged for Hertz to come change my tire and charged for the tire itself, totaling an additional and unexpected EUR 400. Not only was each tire a different brand, but they were all bald. This is my third time renting a car in Ireland and my only time renting with Hertz. When I called customer service to inquire about these charges, I was told that all Hertz rental vehicles are subject to these charges if there is a flat / damaged tire. I paid over EUR 1500 for my rental and expect better service and assistance than what I received. My return trip in a few months will include a car rental from a different company. Shady operation. Don't trust them. I always use my US credit car coverage that gives me the minimum legal insurance in any country globally. On collecting my car from Hertz at Dublin airport, they put an extra 7 euro daily charge on my car that they said was required by law if I decline their insurance. I asked them were they sure this was required by law showing them the letter from my credit card company saying I have collision damage coverage globally (including Republic of Ireland). This works in all other locations any where in the world including Dublin airport many times before both at Hertz and other rental car companies there. They assured me yes that I had to pay a few hundred euro extra since I had the car for almost a month. After checking later, no such charge was required by law. They did not refund my money even after I complained many times. Very disappointing since Hertz is a global company I rent from regularly in the US and globally. Again, don't trust the Dublin operation. Dishonest. Disappointing. Money grabbing. I have rented with Hertz for many years as a Gold member & have mostly had good experiences, until this trip to Ireland! I have a whole list of complaints which starts with a hard sell on upgrades at pickup & ends with a bad experience at drop off - attendant was rather "smug" when she saw what she claimed was new damage to the tire. We picked up our car at the Shannon airport & dropped it off at the Dublin airport. In Shannon, the agent kept insisting that I upgrade to a slightly larger vehicle. I resisted, but when he told me that the alternative he recommended was not much more, I gave in. As it turned out, it was 3x as much. Yes - I should have been paying more attention, but I was with a group & wanted not to make a fuss in front of them. Ok, then the next sales pitch - super coverage insurance. I went for that as well since there were 3 drivers on the rental agreement & I thought it best to be "fully" covered. I don't begrudge the extra insurance cost, but "super coverage" apparently DOES NOT include tires (that is in the fine print). So, when we turned the car in to Dublin drop off, the attendant noticed a scratch in one of the tires. I certainly don't remember running off the road or onto a curb (I think the scratch was already there), but that doesn't matter. Accident report filed & 185 euro charged to my card. I will be complaining to Hertz headquarters, but I also noted that nearly everyone getting on the shuttle to the terminals was complaining about their experience as well. We resersed a mid sized but received a car that held one suitcase in the trunk. We bought extra insurance online only to discover it wasnt enough. Our $131 car for 8 days cost almost a grand!!!! WORST. COMPANY. EVER!!! I reached Presidents Circle status and now I will never rent from Hertz again! I rented a vehicle from Hertz Dublin Airport to drive across Ireland. The vehicle broke down on the side of a busy road that same day. Hertz sent a tow truck to retrieve their vehicle and literally left me, my wife, and children on the side of the road. The next day, they brought a replacement vehicle to me at a nearby hotel. The replacement vehicle had a flat soon after it was delivered. I was absolutely shocked! I had to replace the tire myself as Hertz was unwilling to send help. I returned the vehicle and told them they should not charge for one day of the two-day rental as no vehicle was provided for one day after the first vehicle broke down. Several days later, Hertz charged me for the full two-day rental in addition to a $200+ towing fee and a $180+ tire fee. Hertz ended up charging my credit card for over $670 instead of the original $96 two-day rental agreement. I have made numerous requests for a receipt but one has never been provided. After this experience, it is abundantly clear that Hertz did not maintain their vehicles and then charged me when their vehicles failed. A long-planned family vacation was turned into a nightmare due to greed and malpractice by Hertz. read more

So I rented in Dublin, from the great and internationally known Hertz rental agency. and this is what I got: I ended up with a flat for which I was charged $25, as if it is my fault. when I called the service number on the key fob, I immediately received a recorded message telling me that I am NOT eligible for this service. no human contact, an immediate pre recorded message. when I called the rental location directly, the idiot on the phone said, just change it yourself! my question to him was what if I were 99 years old and could not do so? what if I did not know how to? Of course there was no answer. So I commenced to change the tire by myself. in the spare well I found a dirty partially deflated spare from a different vehicle. additionally, some of the tools required to change the spare were missing. it was with the help of a kind motorist who used his own equipment that we got the spare on the vehicle. when I called Hertz I was advised that there was nothing that could or would be done. clearly Hertz has absolutely no standards that it makes its international name holders adhere to. I will not do business with hurts again anywhere, ever. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not rent from this place. I am not the type of person to waste time writing reviews but this place deserves it. First off it's dirty, the furniture to sit on while you wait is gross and the bathrooms are absolutely filthy. Secondly all the same issues discussed by other people happened to me. I spent a solid 3 hours just to get the rental car that I prepaid and booked early through Expedia. I purchased a separate insurance policy through Expedia that hertz claimed they wouldn't accept and required me to purchase "super coverage insurance" at almost $300 extra tacked onto the bill or face a $5,000 hold on my credit card. Prior to the rental I had called Hertz US customer service on two occasions to make sure that there would be no hidden fees once I got to the counter. Not only did I get hosed for the super-coverage but also got slammed for a weekly rate because the car was returned 13 mins late. Overall I will never do business again with Hertz. read more

NEVER AGAIN I usually hire a van elsewhere but this time decided to give Hertz a go. Apart from the trip to the Airport ,only to be sent to another building by shuttle bus (that I had driven past on the way to the airport), they then proceeded to raid my card. They took a large booking deposit off my credit card. That would not have been a problem had I been informed. I was NOT told about this by the operative. I called the alleged "customer service" three days after returning the van as they had the taken their payment on top of the large deposit. I have now had a serious amount of money taken from my card for a 2 day hire. I got no empathy from the Customer Service Lady and was told that I have to wait 10 days for it to be returned. The Operative at check in offered me extra insurance. I accepted as I thought it was a good idea. He neglected to inform me that this charge was a daily cost. It sickens me to only find out about these Card Raids after I had returned the vehicle and got my receipt. I shudder to think what the outcome would be had I damaged a vehicle. As an local client, I got nowhere with my problem. I really feel sorry for anyone from another country that may have to deal with these people. Dealing with Hertz has been my huge mistake. read more

The staff here were very pleasant and I would have given them a very good rating but Hertz really needs to warn people that even tiny scratches will be assessed and charged for as replacement body work. If we had known we would have checked and photographed the car for absolutely any tiny scratch on the bumpers or wheels. When we dropped the car off at Shannon airport Hertz (total ripoff operation they run there.... be warned) they charged us over $700 for a couple of tiny scratches on the plastic front bumper. These folks are total scam artists, preying on tourists who wouldn't expect to need to be as vigilant as they really should be when renting a car here! I booked, as I do world-wide (Hertz Gold member for 25 years), through United Mileage Plus, requesting coverage of only collision damage waiver. At the counter I was asked if I wanted the insurance and I said yes, signed and got my car. However, I received a final invoice showing that they had added additional theft, super-cover, contents and tire insurance which literally increased my costs by 90%. They will say I signed for the additional cover, but after a red-eye from NYC, and naively assuming that Hertz Dublin Airport acts like Hertz everywhere else in the world and gives you exactly what your booking calls for rather than adding the kitchen sink, I was easy picking for these unethical shysters and everyone should be pre-warned. I was charged $300 for unauthorized services on a pre-paid rental. When trying to seek a billing adjustment through the customer service hotline department I was re-directed to inquire by email. I was assured that was the only way to solve my problem. After sending an email 3 weeks ago, I am still awaiting a response. I am disappointed with their business practices and utterly disgusted with their commitment to customer service. Rented from Hertz - Dublin Ireland. The car had damage to the driver side mirror on it prior to me renting it. When I returned the car we found minor scratches on the left lower spoiler that could easily be buffed out. I wasn't sure that I had caused the damage, but was told by the Hertz agent that the damage was about 300 Euro, which was simply outrageous. The car was then taken to the Hertz repair shop where the cost for repairs went from 300 Euro to 669. When I tried contacting Hertz, Brian Goldsmith responded telling me that if I didn't like the estimate that I could return to Ireland to dispute it. Beware of Hertz Rental at Dublin airport Ireland. Booked a car in May, 2014 and was quoted $441.00 for 13 days. Given a reference number which I accessed while talking with the rep from their 1-800 number and questioned a charge of an additional $549.00 for insurance. She assured me that the charge was a yearly amount and was prorated for my 13 days and the $441.00 was all I would pay. I, stupidly, did not print out the reference number page or ask for an email confirmation. When I got to Dublin the same fee was there but did not question it (stupid me again). The same upon return and then my credit card bill arrived and I saw that I was charged over $1100.00 for a 13 day rental. By the way Hertz advertises rentals of 19.95 Euro or $27.00US a day. I challenged the charge and their corporate headquarters informed me that Hertz in Ireland is an independently owned company and they have no jurisdiction over them. Seems to me if they have the right to use the brand name then there must be some control by corporate. Challenged it with Visa and again lost so here I am stuck with a $1100.00 bill which works out to $85.00 a day. And one more thing, if you take the insurance charge that I paid for the thirteen days and bring to a yearly total the insurance that Hertz charges are over $15,000.00 . AVOID HERTZ AT ALL COSTS unless you have complete documentation to prove otherwise because their fecking thieves. read more

My family had a great vacation in Ireland all the way up until we returned our rental car to Hertz at Dublin Airport. We discovered that we were charged an extra € 454.31 for insurance. We were told by a Hertz employee at the time we rented the car that it was €21 a day, which we agreed to pay. However, when we returned the car the receipt showed otherwise. My husband quickly walked into the office at the airport to handle the discrepancy, but was told to call the corporate office. He called when we got back home and was told that because he signed the receipt at the time of renting, there was nothing Hertz would do. I then wrote an email to Hertz customer service on May 1st. I received an automated response that my concerns would be addressed and someone would get back to me. One month later, no response from Hertz. I am truly disappointed by Hertz customer service. Why can't someone respond? I will not use this company ever again and advise my friends and relatives the same. read more

NEVER EVER RENT A CAR FROM HERTZ IRELAND. Before retrieving our car at the Dublin Airport, we specifically asked the Hertz employee for FULL coverage insurance. He offered us two types of insurance: one with a deductible and one that the employee at the Dublin Airport explained "covered everything." We paid the 384.12 Euro (approx. $450 USD) for full coverage insurance. Half way into our trip, we got a flat tire from hitting a rock in the road; this simultaneously hit another tire and damaged (blistered) a second tire. We called Hertz immediately and they told us that we did NOT have full coverage insurance, despite what was explained to us at Hertz Dublin Airport. We had to replace two tires for the price of $417 USD. Hertz Dublin DID NOT offer us tire and axle coverage and DID NOT explain that what we purchased was not full coverage insurance. We specifically asked for full coverage insurance. Because Hertz Dublin told us the insurance we purchased covers everything, we believed that we had coverage on the whole car. The $417 USD that we had to pay to fix the car should have been covered under the full coverage insurance we were promised by Hertz. Instead, we had to pay it in full. I am a Hertz Gold Club member, and I use this company almost exclusively. I have always found Hertz to be excellent; in particular, the online quotation has always matched what I actually ended up paying. However, this was not the case at Dublin Airport. I presume the employees at the pick-up counter must be on some sort of commission, particularly when it comes to insurance. First, they tried to tell me that the insurance with my credit card does not work in Ireland. I had already checked with my credit card company, and this claim is nonsense. As usual, I declined the Hertz insurance but was astonished to find that there was a EUR30 "administration charge" for doing so! Buyer beware - the chances are that you will end up paying more than the online quotation from the Hertz Website. This is the very first time I have had this happen with Hertz and I was most unimpressed with their Dublin Airport location. I think they are a bunch of crooks there! read more

I had an early flight at Dublin airport so arrived at 4.45am At the terminal 2 hertz car where I picked the car up. No direction sign was visible and couldn't find a way in to the drop off area. I happened to notice when I drove in to the airport a sign directing to car rentals so I drove back to this point, outside the airport. Gates were locked but a sign said to go to terminal 2. Drove back to terminal 2. I found the entrance sign along side the main car park entrance but there were no lights on over the sign so this was completely concealed from anyone arriving in the dark. Drove in, no office open but a sign said go to level 3 departures. NO office open THERE EITHER, nowhere to drop the key. I had to poke the key in through the shutter. The prize for making a simple thing the cause of stress and annoyance goes to you Hertz Dublin!!! My advice to anyone reading this, (hopefully ahead of using hertz at the airport), go to Europecar next door, at least they were open for business. The 2 stars are for the car, it was fine, could have been 4 or even 5 if I'd been able to return it easily. read more
