First-time renter, and I did my research to find a good deal. Came in a little early Friday afternoon and was checked out in less than five minutes. I came in expecting to get a car that was enough to get me from Point A to B over the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised with a 2016 Mazda 3 with only 1,730 miles. The ride was impeccable, they were cheaper than their counterparts, and the service was most pleasant. Looking around the parking lot there were newer cars all around, too. Had to return the car early because my plans changed, and at that point I learned that I should take careful note of starting mileage as well as ending. The last user wasn't checked out quite right and for a second Hertz thought I drove 1500 miles in two days instead of 110. I look forward to going back to Hertz. read more

There's a reason the reviews for Hertz are terrible. Choose another rental car company if you come to Bloomington, IL. Here's why I can't support them. Inadequate staffing: I waited in line for more than 30 minutes to grab my rental at a REGIONAL airport. The line was just as long behind me. Rude staff: I was given a car, but kindly asked if a different car was available at a comparable price point. The staff member laughed and sarcastically told me I shouldn't be "so picky." Pardon me? She gave the man in front of me ZERO grief when he asked for a different car. Within seconds she handed me keys to a better car (same price!). I was polite even though I had a ridiculous wait, but Hertz acted impatient over a simple, standard request. Note: the parking lot was full of Hertz cars, so they had no shortage of vehicles. Budget and National are also housed in the Bloomington, IL airport. I observed zero wait time at their stations. Avoid Hertz - that's my suggestion. read more

I was asked by the manager here for a $500 deposit along with a credit check in order to rent a car. I opted to go to use enterprise instead. Enterprise required a $0 deposit. No credit check. After my last review, I stopped renting from Hertz in Bloomington. Boy was i glad I did. First of all the Avis folks are great and have nice vehicles. Second... I got real bad experience with this rental agent. I dropped this rent car 5am then I got real high bill. They were cheating my rental car mileage then charged extra $85.00 gasoline/service fee even though I returned full Gas tank. I got picture when I drop this rent car so I proved everything wasn't going right way. I called this rental agency they are so rude. It seems they are typically keep doing this way. A typical Hertz at a small regional airport. And as you can imagine, no gold board here. But your reservation/keys are usuallly all printed out and ready to go. The staff definitely could be nicer (There was an instance where they gave me a Nissan Sentra, my most hated car, and I asked for an American car... My husband and I checked the prices online before choosing Hertz, and found that they had awesome rates. HOWEVER, those rates are only online. When we walked up and tried to rent a car, the girl told us a price $100 over what we were expecting! We asked about it, and she said we have to go online to get the price. My husband used his phone, and we got a lower rate. She then proceed to tell us that there is a soft credit check to use a debit card. We asked what that is and she said "I don't know, we just do it." We finally swiped our card, because we tired and ready to go. The car was nice, I will say that, even though we asked for something bigger, because my husband barley fit in the thing. The morning we returned it, we filled, and I mean FILLED the car with gas. We dropped the keys off, we were flying early, so nobody was there. Two days later the charge finally went through on our card. $40 over what we were told!! My husband called, and we got charged for 4 gallons of gas! I'm not sure how they got 4 gallons in the car, because we filled it! I will NEVER rent from Hertz again, and we travel often. read more

My reservation meant nothing! I had a reservation for a car rental with Hertz at Bloomington Airport Monday. Arrived and went to the counter and was told, yes you have a reservation but we have no car for you. I asked if they'd have a car later in the day or the next day ( we were there for a job interview and house hunting). They told me no car would be available for me till Thursday. If they'd looked at my reservation they would have seen I'd have already flown back home by then. I walked to another counter to try to get a car without a reservation. But noticed several people walk up to Hertz and walk away with car keys after I'd been told there was no car available!! I walked back to Hertz counter to ask why. I was told that if a certain company (large employer in Bloomington) needed a car, they got a car, regardless of my reservation. Again, they said they'd have a car Thursday for me. The three people at the Hertz counter were completely unapologetic. Not one said they were sorry. They didn't make eye contact. They offered nothing to compensate for the huge inconvenience they caused me - for example, a good price on my next time or ANYTHING. I asked for their names and phone number to call and complain. Of course, there will be no next time for me with Hertz!!!! How can I trust them even if I have a reservation to actually have a car for me when I arrive?!? And shame on AirTran for advertising and partnering with this company with such terrible business practices. Fortunately I was able to get a car from another company across the street and was told they treat everybody the same - no preferential treatment for any one, unlike Hertz. read more

I don't rent cars that much and was just a passenger on a trip with my brother-in-law. After turning in the car I realized that I had left my jacket in the back of the car after landing at my first stop. I called the Hertz desk at Bloomington Airport so they could look for my jacket, this turned into a big deal with many calls but they found my jacket and said they would send it to me if I sent them the shipping label. I did that but the jacket was not sent out, when I called I was told that there printer was down and that he (counter person) would print label at home and get sent out. Again I wait and see by the tracking number that it has not been pick up or sent. More calls to find out that nothing has been done. So to make a long story longer it was three weeks waiting for them to get a jacket shipped out, what a joke, I am sure people leave items in rental cars all the time, what is the process to deal with it ? I had to get a friend to go by the airport to pick up my jacket and send it back to me. My brother-in-law is a gold member but that didn't mean much. I am going on a trip next week and will need to rent a car for 9 days but it won't be from Hertz. read more

This is actually a review of the hertz on 1605 Morrissey in Bloomington. I found a rate I liked online and booked it. I did the prepay to get an extra discount. Unfortunately between the time of my booking and the actual pick up date, my credit card was stolen. That part was okay. My credit card company (USAA) is awesome and cancelled it and sent me a new one; no problem. Well, Hertz REQUIRES the same card you used to book with at the time of booking and since I didn't have that card, it caused all sorts of problems. First of all, the staff at the actual location should be trained to handle this. You would think it's a pretty common problem or at least one that can be anticipated. The staff members solution was to cancel my previous rental and rebuild it (of course, that would cost me a $100) cancellation fee. I said NO, I don't want to cancel. I am here. I want my rental car. I just don't have the credit card I booked with (keep in mind, they were already paid and there was no problem with the payment). So, I said that isn't going to work for me and I asked to speak to the manager. That also got me nowhere. They ended up handing me a flyer from their Corporate office and said I could call one of those numbers (great customer service, by the way). I was on hold with the first 800 number for about twenty minutes. When I got through and explained what was going on, the person said that was not their department and they would have to transfer me. Then when they transferred me they accidentally hung up on me. So I had to call back and wait again. When I finally got through to someone who could help, she took care of it in about 5 minutes. She was great! I told her that. Or so I thought. Come to find out, she still billed me the $100 cancellation fee despite several assurances to the contrary because that was my big concern to begin with. Now I have a customer concern case opened with them with a case ID and they say it will take 7-10 business days to resolve. I have never written a review on YELP before, but I am so committed to righting this mistreatment that I am willing to do anything and go to any lengths (including this review). Hertz has one shot to make this right or I can assure them and all the readers out there that I will NEVER, EVER rent from Hertz again and that I will tell anyone and everyone who cares to listen about my experience. I'm only 39 years old, so I have a long life of rentals ahead of me. I hope Hertz figures it out. This is just wrong!! read more

If I could vote 0 stars, I would. I rented a car 11/24 with the intent to return 11/26. My car broke down before a blizzard in Kansas City, and Hertz refused to come get us until 36 hours after the storm. The Kansas City airport location was amazing, and told me that Bloomington would compensate me for the motel that I was forced to stay in overnight, because the start and end location are responsible for the financial disputes. They charged me an extra $120 for a $36 rental, because I "didn't return the car on time." They compensated my entire bill, and told me I should be "thankful" that they did that; I literally did not have a car to return. I was forced to stay in a motel, and an associate named Hilton assured me I would be compensated for it, and I believed him. After calling AND emailing the manager, Matthew, I have YET to hear from him. I have filed multiple reports with corporate, and they assured me he would respond to me with reimbursement, but nothing has happened. Hilton PROMISED me Matthew would call me over a week later, and I never received a phone call. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. They are liars and obviously don't care about their customers. If you can't compensate my $80 motel because YOUR car broke down and YOUR company refused to come get me in a timely manner, you should not be in business. read more
