Do not use this Hertz location. I reserved a compact petrol automatic vehicle for a trip to the Isle of Skye May 2023 in October of 2022. I provided flight details in my reservation. I was delayed and when I tried to change the flight details, the app allowed me to delete the original information, but not add new information. I arrived four hours after the "pick-up time", at 2 in the afternoon. My friend had arrived two hours earlier and they told her that they gave away our car and could only offer us an electric vehicle. We repeatedly stated our extreme discomfort with bringing an EV to one of the most remote locations in Scotland, 3 hours away from the airport. Neither of us had internet data on our phones for this trip, so we clearly told the employee at this location that we wouldn't be able to use the QR codes he offered us while we were at charging stations. He dismissed our concerns, assuring us that there are charging stations "everywhere" and that the Shell fob included with the rental would work so we could charge. We still had a number of concerns, but he was flippant, dismissive, rude, and rushed us because they were busy. He then argued with me for 15 minutes about whether AAA entitled me to a second driver for free and tried to make me pay an additional amount for our second driver. When he brought us out to the car, he explicitly stated that he wasn't going to spend much time showing it to us because he was busy. I can say with confidence that if it weren't for some of the kindest people in Scotland (do visit the Uig Hotel whose operations manager is one of those people), we would have been stranded because of this employees refusal to listen to our concerns and adequately address them, and because of Hertz's flippant violation of our reservation. There are five charging stations on the Isle of Skye (which I knew in the Hertz location from the map I pulled up with Wifi). What I didn't know is that all of those locations are run by ChargeScotland, not Shell. We weren't given a ChargeScotland pass, so would be required to use an app or website. Without wifi, that was impossible, not to mention I couldn't download the app because I'm not from Scotland. The first charger we went to was unuseable because it doesn't have an identification number posted on it, which is required to use the website. We then went to the only off-brand station, a slow-charge outside the Uig Hotel, where operations manager John graciously gave us the Wifi password and a hotel guest saw us struggling and came to inform us that the car has to be closed and locked (which no one told us, and the Hertz online guides didn't say) and to help us figure out the Zest machine. We finally got a charge started there and went into the restaurant. We charged 20% in 1.5 hours. The next day, after discovering that the only other nearby charging station in Portree wasn't working at all, we returned to the Uig Hotel where John gave us his personal ChargeScotland pass so that we wouldn't end up stranded. Even then, some of the stations were broken and since we'd been poorly educated (with no specific manual materials provided), we didn't know that the fast chargers applied to our vehicle. We lost many hours of our vacation because the employees at this Hertz location violated our reservation, never tried to contact me before giving away our car, and flippantly dismissed our concerns and discomfort. The complaint process has also been ridiculous. We demanded a full refund for the car they gave away and they offered a 50% refund because I "hadn't provided flight information" and the renter must "ensure a car is suitable for" her. Do not trust these people or rent from them. Hertz was also impossible to get ahold of in any way. No phone number connected to a human being and the number for the office charges several cents a minute. They dumped an EV on two unsuspecting American women, violating our reservation. This situation caused us to have to change plans along with endure undue stress during our vacation. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Went to drop off rental at the Inverness airport early in the morning. I had a confirmation email that I would drop it off at 6am. My flight was at 7am. Upon arrival, to the very dark airport there were no signs for Hertz. The rental car return lot had signs for Eurocar, Budget, but no Hertz. We found a fenced in area about a mile away from the airport in an industrial area with a Hertz sign. It was all locked up and there was no space to park a car even outside of the fence. We ended up leaving the car in short term parking with the smart key inside (so the car didn't lock). At that point I wish they hadn't rented us the beautiful Mercedes-as we were basically forced to abandon this vehicle that was quite flashy, and we worried about someone driving off with it. I frantically called Hertz and left two messages and the local office stating where the car was and what had happened. We also emailed the company with the same information. We had zero response from anyone, but later received a bill. They charged us for the gas we used so they must have found the car in short term parking. It caused a lot of stress and we were worried about missing our early morning flight to London due to the time it took to search for the nonexistent Hertz. In the end it all worked out. read more

Absolutely awful. I chose Hertz because we were coming into Inverness by train and their website stated they had a location at the station. They do not. Apparently it's a "meet and greet" and they weren't there because we never gave them our train information WHICH THEY NEVER ASKED FOR and never told me they needed. Finally got someone on the phone after 45 minutes on hold and they refused to come get us and had given away our car. Told us if we wanted a car we had to come to the airport. "Customer service" was rude, useless and dismissive and we were left with no choice but to walk the 2 miles to our BNB in the dark. After another hour on the phone trying to find someone to help, including getting transferred 3 times and disconnected, we finally gave up and called Enterprise, who delivered a car first thing in the morning. Never, never again will I rent from Hertz. read more

Terrible experience. I made my reservation through Orbitz (first mistake), and basically everything that could go wrong with picking up the rental did. First, we arrived about 1.5 hours after the "scheduled" time on my reservation (I've never before had a problem with arriving a little late, only issues if early). They were out of compact cars, so I had to "upgrade" to a larger car that I did not want, and pay the difference (which was *double* my original reservation cost). I've never had to pay for an unwanted upgrade in my life, but there was no other option as the location is sort of in the middle of nowhere. The customer service rep was super rude and basically said that it was my own fault for not showing up on time, but also let it slip that the airport was going on strike so a lot of walk-ins had come in and they rented out the cars that had already been reserved. From what I overheard while dealing with pickup (and later when dropping the rental off) this had happened to A LOT of customers no matter when they picked up. They just don't stock nearly enough compact cars so that they can force you into an upgrade for much more $. Then, the super rude guy we were dealing with handed us off to some trainee who had no idea what she was doing. It took over an hour and quite a few arguments over basic math to get the car. When we left, I had a hold of $700 on my credit card for a rental that was originally supposed to be $90, and was now $300. Obviously some of that 700 was just insurance for if I returned the car with no gas or something, but seriously? That's excessive. They also had me sign off that the car had no damage before I even saw it. I had to go back in after to show them that there were HUGE scratches on the passenger-side. Luckily they did add that to the file and I was not charged upon return. I then spent my 3 days in the highlands worrying about drop-off and if I would ever get any of the cost straightened out. It was a real downer, since we had another week of vacation left, and only a certain budget to work with. On drop-off, I got a much more understanding customer service rep who actually listened to what I was saying (it was a close call, since the only other person working was the guy I had dealt with a couple days earlier). He fixed the cost to reflect just the original quote (which included tax), plus the upgrade and tax. Yes, I paid 20% tax twice, but at this point I was so done arguing and had a train to catch. I was just happy he honored the original reservation quote as the base price without any trouble. The shuttle from the train station was about 20 minutes late picking us up, and we had to wait about half an hour for the shuttle back to the train station. Also the facility didn't have it's hours listed on the door, but the hours posted on their website were obviously wrong because we dropped the car off at 9am Saturday morning, thinking that was the earliest we could do it, and they had clearly been open for a while. it would have been nice to know so we didn't have to rush to the train. read more
