Just like the others, they tried to screw us! Luckily I got insurance through Travelocity but they still got their money, just not from me. My family and I were in Salzburg and rented a car from this Thrifty/Hertz storefront, just a block away from the train station. When we returned the car, the employee immediately said he saw damage from 10 meters away and walked up and pointed to a small speck on the bottom of the bumper and said that I had ran over something. They said it would have to be fixed at my expense. I did not leave until they gave me an estimate, which was nearly €600! Luckily I had insurance through Travelocity because sure enough they charged my credit card for €571 after I had left Austria. The employee who I dealt with was a young man with quite the attitude. The manager seemed nicer, but was still okay with charging €600 for what amounted to a paint chip at the bottom of the bumper. They took advantage of me because I was a foreigner that needed to catch a train. Dishonesty at its finest and a disgrace to the beautiful city of Salzburg!
We had a fine rental experience and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Renting cars these days always feels like pulling teeth and that isn't really the fault of any particular location or staff so that part has really nothing to do with this individual experience. For what this location can control, they were perfectly fine. Parking your car on return is very slightly confusing up until you actually do it and then it makes complete sense - that's just the nature of needing to park in the underground lot at the train station and can't be helped. read more

This location outside the Salzburg train station is one of the worst rental offices I have ever dealt with. After reading all the negative reviews I still decided to rent as I am a PC member and in the USA it's a seamless process. To cover myself I recorded over a 3 min video of the outside of the car to make sure I don't become a victim of their fraudulent business practices. Upon return the hertz employee automatically went to the passenger side rear door which we never used on our whole trip and pointed out a scratch. I told him we never ever used that door but he took pictures as did I and to my surprise I just got billed over $900 for the repair. I am going to fight this charge and already reported this to my credit card company. All the reviews are completely true, They are running a scam and have obviously adapted a fraudulent way of doing business. Do Not rent from this location, you are better off using the train system. read more

A previous car company would not allow us to take their rental to Prague. So we had to park that car and we rented a second car from Hertz, thinking they are reputable and would treat us well. To our horror, they slapped us with a $1300 fee for damages days after we returned the car. There was no damage and the attendant told us it looked good and we were free to go. It has left us with a very bad feeling about our holiday, and we will never rent from Hertz again. read more

Not a fan. Wife booked the car months in advance of our trip. When we arrived at the office at our scheduled pick-up time there was a line out the door and only one person working. We waited for 30 minutes to get our car. Luckily I took pictures when I picked it up, they don't walk around the vehicle with you. We did extend the duration of our rental, which was super easy on the app. We dropped the vehicle off at the Venice airport and there was no one around to turn the keys in to or inspect the car. Several weeks later my wife received an email stating there was damage on the vehicle's rear bumper that was not previously noted. Luckily I had taken pictures when we picked it up. I filled out their form and uploaded the photos. I never heard from them again. What kind of company doesn't even acknowledge there was a "mistake" made?! Renter beware. read more

I returned the car on August 16th with no damage. The rental office is not open on Sundays, so they asked me to park the car in Hotel Europa parking lot. I took a video of the car upon return and noted no damage. I had no correspondence from Thrifty until September 4th, when they sent an email with a damage invoice for 853 Euros!!! The first issue is that there was no damage when I left the car in the requested space. How can they accuse a customer three weeks later of damage that they did not prove when the rental ended. Anyone in the 3-week-period could have caused the damage. The second issue is that there is no way that a scratch on a bumper costs 853 Euros. This is a total scam, and they are criminals. Do not rent from this office!!!!! read more

This place is the worst rental agent I have ever dealt with. I booked a luxury car months in advance and paid a very premium price (740€ a week). What I got was a totally stripped down Mercedes Benz. It had manually operated cloth seats, no rear camera, no sunroof, no auto headlights, no rain sensing wipers, no proximity key, gutless engine, no cruise control, and it actually had ugly plastic wheel covers. I had no idea that MB even built a car this devoid of features. When I complained upon my return they insisted that in fact, they upgraded me from what I had booked because it had NAV and an automatic transmission. They seemed unmoved by my informing them that I neither asked for nor wanted those two items. I brought my own superior GPS and I hate automatics. One of the reasons I booked with them was because they were open on Saturday mornings allowing me to drop it and get on the nearby train station. When I first arrived at about 11:45 am they were closed (advertised as open until 1:00 pm). There was a sign in the window instructing me to drop the keys at a hotel in the area. Dragging my luggage around I managed to find the hotel and got to stand in line for twenty minutes waiting to talk to hotel staff because they had about 20 or more guests lined up to check in. When I walked back towards the train station I noticed that a woman was now at the Hertz office and they were open. I was furious and went in to tell her so. All she said was "I'm sorry but it was an upgrade" and you know the rest. This was an absolute rip off. They buy stripped down cars and rent them out as "premium" or "luxury" vehicles. I have never had this issue with any other European agency including Avis, Sixt, Europecar etc. Stay well away from these crooks. read more

AGAIN, STAY AWAY! This place charged us 861 euros for damage we did not do. It even stated it on the rental agreement that there was tire disruption to the right side of the vehicle. "No big deal according to the agent, but when we brought our car back in another agent accused us of damage to the right and got charged to replace the rims. Seems like a trend here... read more

Hello, glad I didn't pay attention to the one star review. We just rented a great Passat Wagon. They showed us two vehicles to choose from the Volvo wagon and the Passat wagon Everyone was so helpful. They even programmed our destination for us into the GPS. Thank you Alex. The location is great if you are coming to Salzburg by train. Walk straight out of the Train Station to the end of the square and go left. Thanks again! read more

We reserved a Mercedes A class or equivalent more than two months before a road trip in Austria. We are also Hertz Gold members. The day before we planned to pick up the car, we called to confirm that the vehicle would be available. The surpervisor, Christina, informed us that no car in our requested car class was available and, instead, tried to place us in a larger Nissan SUV. She was unsympathetic and told us nothing else was available. A call to Sixt Europe was a different experience. They placed us in an Audi A3 at a lower price. After so many years with Hertz, we will move on. read more

We rented a car here and asked for delivery to our hotel. They delivered it on a thursday and had the hotel person sign off on the damage report. We got the key to the car on saturday (since friday the rental agency was closed) we drove the rental 50 feet and the car stopped. A new car was sent and the guy who delivered it asked for us to accept that there was damage on the previous car. Either we sign we damaged the car or we would not get the new car. We refused as we had barely driven 50 feet in the previous car. Caveat: take delivery of the car yourself or you get ambushed by Hertz. Hetz delivered the car to a third party and then held us liable for the contract. read more

After reading reports of "damages" and extra charges, I had concerns about renting in Austria (especially needing an after hours return). But our experience with this Hertz was great. It is just steps from the train station, and the counter reps were efficient and very helpful. We were upgraded to an automatic Alfa Romeo sedan which was very comfortable for 4 adults. The integral GPS was fabulous and took us on some very scenic, out of the way roads. The after hours return was incredibly easy. We returned the car on June 4, 2017 and have not had any extra charges applied to our card. I would definitely rent form this office again. I have also rented from hertz twice while in France and also had excellent experiences. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Our pick up experience was pleasant our return was not. If you are going to rent from this place be sure to inspect every inch of the vehicle and take pictures of every inch of the car. We rented at automatic BMW 1 series on a Thursday, there was one person working, so when its finally your turn and you know there are others that are waiting to be helped you feel a sense of hurrying along. DON"T!!! TAKE YOUR TIME NO MATTER WHAT!!!When we picked up the car its was clean, except for the front end, it had a lot of dried bugs. Because of this we didn't notice the small scratch, very small the width of my pink finger, on the bottom front fender. Upon return they conveniently noticed this very tiny scratch, and blamed us for it. We rented the car for 1 day, drove only on the freeway, and didn't get into any accidents, so the likelihood of it being our fault was very slim. Of course we were naïve and didn't take photographs to prove our point. We just got the damage report back and it 150.00 EURO to fix this tiny scratch. The one employee who was working the day we returned the car was looking to be the employee of the month, because he conveniently told us the he found damage on EVERY single car that was returned that day. Coincidence??? I THINK NOT!!!! So needless to say, stay away if can, if you can't please be careful. read more

Susan L is right they are running a scam...working with Our credit card to make sure they don't get away with it!
