We stayed two nights at the Kondari resort (one before heading to Fraser Island and one after…read morecoming back). Rating the hotel is pretty difficult since we did have very low expectations (considering the price and that we read the reviews before booking) but we also had many problems while at the hotel but most of these were solved (some better than others). Starting with the easy part - location. The hotel is located close to the Urangan marina which is convenient if you are heading over to Fraser but is far from where most restaurants are (sure there are a few in the marina but most are at the other end of the esplanade). The proximity to the marina is not really that important since all tour companies have pick-up from the hotel. The hotel runs a free shuttle service to/from the airport and buss terminal (book in advance) but it only runs from morning to 3pm on weekdays so it is not that useful. The first room we were given when we checked in for the first night was already occupied. Small mistake which can easily be forgiven. The next room seemed ok, a bit run-down but still surprisingly roomy. It was a corner room which we first thought was good (less noise) but which later would mean some problems. The room had a queen size bed, one single bed and a bunk bed so it would have been possible to stay five people in the room. There was also a very old TV (poor reception), fridge, hair dryer, iron and kettle so most things were there. The bathroom seemed ok as well with a shower (no tub). Upon returning to the room after grabbing a bite to eat we noticed hundreds of ants on one of the walls. Called reception that simply explained it was nothing to worry about since it always happens when it rains. They asked us to leave the room for a few minutes while they took care of the problem (which meant spraying the ants). Not really an ideal solution but still worked. Checked out the morning after to head to Fraser Island. Returning from Fraser we were first given a room that had not been cleaned. After a few apologizes we got a new room (same type as first one) and settled in there. At this time it just started pouring down outside. We felt a bit worried that we may get ants (but it is apparently mainly a problem for the corner rooms) but this time we had another problem. When opening the door to the bathroom we realized that there was water on the floor coming from the toilet. Quick walk up to the front desk and the response was that this often happens when it rains a lot. They did however relocate us to a newer fresher room (that did not at all feel as run-down). We were a bit lucky since the problem with the toilets affected all lakeside rooms so we heard other people complaining after us and they were told to wait for the plumber to get there. The hotel also had a restaurant serving cheap pub grub (nothing fancy but rather filling) and they have a bottle shop. To summarize the hotel is pretty run-down so do not expect anything new and fancy. The staff is helpful and friendly. Location is not very good so there must be better options.

The staff were friendly and the prices were reasonable. If you go on the weekend, you need to make a booking - we saw diners without bookings being turned away.

To say we were all disappointed is an understatement! They were all completely flavourless! *The gnocchi - was claggy and tasted like a balls of uncooked flour it wasn't eatable at all. We just threw a t in the bin! *The Gamberi- had no flavour and the king prawns tasted like frozen imports (menu states they're local fresh) * Crab Fettuccine- actually wasn't terrible.. after I'd added a heap of salt and pepper. There was copious amounts of crab meat (and cartilage) throughout the dish. At $25 per dish, I'd recommend spending you're money elsewhere. I haven't tried their pizzas. Although I don't think we will go back. There are plenty of great Italian pizza restaurants in the bay!

Best weekend of my life…read more I rolled up to this sleepy little beach town honestly not expecting much. BOY oh BOY oh BOY was I wrong. When I arrived, I checked in and was greeted by the friendliest and burliest front desk man I'd ever known, he told me he bought the hotel with proceeds from his side gig during the war in East Timor where he started an underground cigar trading ring, and smuggled out meerkats. The room was a GLORIOUS shade of grey and lime green accents, the 1806 louvre curator would roll over in his grave. I hosed myself down with the fanciest shower head I'd EVER seen, (WINK WINK), and I stumbled down to the lobby for a late night latte. Little did I know, the mime convention of my DREAMS was also staying at this hotel. I was in MINE HEAVEN! Luckily I had an old black and white getup in a garment bag in the back of my car, so I could fit in. I spent the night regaling in silent stories of life on the mean streets of Paris- AND BEYOND. We silently snickered into the wee hours of the early evening and sipped on decaf cappuccinos - I felt like a teenager on Rumspringa. 10/10 WOULD MIME AGAIN

Self contained kitchen and laundry with breathtaking ocean views. Staff were lovely and accommodating! Would stay again if ever in the area and recommend to family and friends!

It's fitted out and furnished to a high standard with lovely furniture and our super comfortable bed was made up with premium linen. We booked the Hervey Studio room which gave us a little extra living space and an adjoining bathroom and toilet. We arrived during a torrential rain storm and Scott was there to meet us with an umbrella. The continental breakfast is wonderful with a fresh fruit platter, juice, a selection of cereals and jams, and home made bread. As a guest you have 24 access to shared kitchen facilities equipped with cutlery, crockery, glassware, an espresso machine and an assortment of premium teas. It's in a good location just a short walk to the Esplanade.

We were two people in a lodge that could sleep four (one queen size bed and two single beds). The room was pretty basic, only the beds, a few lockers (to lock things if there are more people sharing) and a fan. No a/c, which was ok since it was not that hot (may be an issue if it is really hot) and we were pretty tired after a full day of activities. There was also a small veranda outside the lodge and there was a nice pool at the hotel as well. The hotel also has a restaurant and small supermarket. We had meals included in the price and these were ok. In the restaurant there is also Internet access and TV.
