Decades ago, Hewitt's Auto Body had a good reputation. I haven't been hit or in any accident in decades, and didn't realize that Hewitt's had been purchased by POC Collision (or VIVE) back in 2015. As with most good companies that get merged into a big company, profits suddenly take priority over quality. When I went to pick up the car, the estimator at Hewitts pretended to not see the obvious misalignment of the area that was supposed to have been repaired. The gap at the left headlight where the car was hit was much much tighter than that of the right (original). The gap at the hood at the left side where the car was hit was much larger. The left frame member under the hood that held the headlight assembly was still bent, indicating that they had not fixed whatever it was that was bent in the frame. The repainting matched, but there was pitting and splatter. Noting the estimator's indifference, I pointed out the obvious issues to the estimator again, but I said that I would take it as-is. He possibly felt a bit embarrassed, and offered to have the tech try to fix it. I agreed. I picked it up the next day, and though a bit better, it was far from even "good", as shown in the photos. The photos were taken after the "final" repair after the estimator had the tech try to fix it again. The estimator said that he got it as good as he could. The likely culprit at the left headlight is a slightly bent frame member. The misalignment of the bumper cover is likely a re-assembly issue. The paint splatter/chips as shown in the photos are just icing on the cake. In summary, unless your car is a beater, don't take a car that you like to Hewitts. Find a smaller auto-body shop. Update Oct 4, 2025. I had to get under the car to change the oil today, and found three areas where the plastic rivets were missing or just hanging on the bumper cover that Hewitt's replaced. Poor work and even worse quality control at Hewitt's. Updated Oct 21, 2025. The nightmare gets worse. While closing the door, I noticed some black dots on the inner fender that was replaced. The "dots" turned out to likely be fingerprints from when the wet door panel was installed after being painted. While checking that, I noticed that the inner trim was not installed. Subaru Part No. 59140FL000 Name: Cover - Rear Fender, Right Calling USAA for a refund and to see about having USSA be removed from USAA's list, and to get this fixed at a different body shop. A deer ran into the side of my vehicle last week. Knocked off some paint, broke the grill, a light, and scraped up the front bumper/quarter panel. We had a great experience with Hewitt's. I came in to estimate the repair of a hole in sheet metal, repaint side of my truck, and fix the crooked license plate. Instead of removing the screw they broke off, Meineke had drilled a hole in my car's sheet metal when placing the new license plate! I was livid when I discovered this--a totally lazy thing to do. I took it to Hewitt's to get it fixed before winter road salt and rust. Tyler was great! I needed two quotes-one to fix the crooked license plate issue: remove broken off screw and repair errantly drilled hole AND repaint the vehicle's side due to sun damage and older UV coating. Tyler was great! He took pictures and is emailing me the quote, AND he had his technician remove the broken off screw while we waited and re-attached the license plate squarely. It was a small thing that meant a lot to me. I did not want my car to rust. He also noticed how much our daughter loves to see things get fixed and carries a small screwdriver in her purse, just in case she needs it. He gave her a little, pocket-size tool for her purse just in case she needs it. What a nice thing to do! Also, he was happy to schedule around our travel schedule. I had never been into this auto repair shop. I live close by so I brought my car in because the heat wasn't working and my dad knows the owner. I needed a new coolant hose and radiator. I couldn't afford a radiator at the time so the hose was replaced and a stop leak sealant put in the radiator and was told it would last between one and 6 months and I could get it replaced when my tax return came in... 3 days later with my 3 kids in the car my engine started smoking the car jerked to a stop and all the coolant leaked out onto the road. I tried calling Hewitt to explain what happened but told he was on vacation. I had to have my car towed to jiffy lube and my parents ended up buying me a radiator and new hose As the one that was put on had come off. I went back to Hewitt to see if they would honor their Warranty so I could give the $125 I had spent to my parents to cover some of the cost and I was told no. I will not be going back. read more

I was hit by a car pulling out of a side street and crashing into me as I was driving straight down Maine St. It was traumatic for me as it was the first time I'd ever been in an accident. The perpetrator's insurance company covered the damage fully and Hewitt's did an outstanding job. I was very impressed by their professionalism. They kept me up-to-date on their progress and were always pleasant and kind. The job was impeccable! You would've never known I was crashed into! Plus, they cleaned the inside of my car. That I noticed right away and I was pleasantly surprised! They didn't have to do that! I told them I hoped I would never see them again as I'm not wanting to get into another accident ever again, but that I would recommend them highly to anyone needing body work on their vehicle!!! Great Staff. I had some body work done by the professionals at Hewitt's on New Years Eve. There was a massive blizzard that day and they were still open which was amazing because I was set to pick up my rental car and drop off my damaged vehicle that morning. I was able to nab an all wheel drive Nissan Rogue for my rental which was appreciated considering I drove my front wheel "death trap" Focus to the shop that morning. I picked my car up 13 days later and it looked great! They waxed it for me and returned my little car back to her former glory. These negative reviews warranted that I set the record straight. The side of my 2009 Forester was hit by a dear on the side damaging the front fender and both side doors. I was told by a friend Hewitt's are "crooks" after an owner change but may as well just ask for an estimate. I called them and had a couple of questions, "what's your hourly rate?" I was put on hold for them to find out "can I bring my own parts?" I was put on hold again. I came in and received a very lukewarm greeting from the receptionist I believe it was Tyler that came out to take a look at my car, I told him what happened and he explained to me that there weren't deer in the area that I got hit by one as we were going to look at my car. The whole atmosphere has me weirded out at this point. After taking a look he asks if I was going to make a claim to insurance, I told him I would not. My car is 2 forester generations old at this point so I find this next part weird, I asked him for a rough estimate and he says $3-4k. My car is worth about $8k. He told me that he would also give me an estimate to just make it road legal (I was missing a mirror and the door barely opened). He also told me that he would not be able to make it the correct color to match my car for $3-4k, its unclear from the final estimate if that changed. So the next day I made 3 phone calls, on the third I found the 3 parts I needed for $400 including them taking them off the car for me which was a good deal for their condition, when I got there they loaded the parts for me. Looking online the 3 parts together worst case scenario and without negotiation are maybe $550 although places I called had prices about it line with $400 I'm not an expert but maybe just calling is how you get deals vs online pricing. Looking at my final estimate their parts without painting them which was much more came to $1,225.93. the cost to make it drivable which only included a mirror and "temp repair on fender to make drivable" was $227.24 about $30 more than the cost of a used door including a mirror. The parts I found were the correct color, I cannot tell the difference in normal lighting. Me and a friend did the repair in about 7 hours total having no prior experience. Doing some research online many places round up to 1 hr on work for hanging a car door, lets say the fender would take 2 hours to be safe, they also have to take the broken doors and fender off and replace the door lock. Lets give them 4 hours for that. So 8 hours would be a nice amount of time for them to charge given my research and experience doing it. I'm not saying that places charge for the exact amount of time they work, nor am I saying everyone has the time to work on their car. More important to my situation, I'm not saying a used car door is ideal or that mine are in perfect condition, there are no dents on them accept one lower on the fender by the wheel arch, its plenty noticeable to someone looking for flaws but not really otherwise. I'm 19 and told him I would be paying out of pocket, so maybe he was going to do a really good job for $3,303.78 (and 1 month from then according to his estimate) and make it look showroom quality (I would like to return to the fact he told me it would be the wrong color in person, I don't know to this day if the final quote was making it the wrong color.) But I'm 19 and paying out of pocket. according to my research he could've found a new front door with a mirror in the right color for $200, lets give them $200 in labor to put that on (4 hours to remove the old door, put the lock in the new one, put the door on.) for $400 he could give me a perfectly drivable car that doesn't include paying $227 to just make my car legal but still make me have the 3 parts ill want to replace eventually. or paying $3,303.78. So back to hours wise, lets give them 10 to do it., 2 more than I estimated being lenient. Using the hourly rate from my quote that's $480, the hourly rate given on the phone its $350. So $400+480= $880. I didn't take my car anywhere else for a quote admittedly but for those playing along at home that is $2,400 less than $3,303.78. Paint labor and supplies added up to $900 and the last I was told that was just him painting it the wrong color (or maybe using parts he knew he already had and not actually painting at all). My final quote included such items like taking off my bumper that comes off with the grille attached.... Then removing the grille from that. Removing both my tail lights. Removing my rear quarter window. I feel like I was taken advantage of because I am 19 years old not only that they weren't even friendly while they were doing so. If I hadn't told them I was paying in cash with that clearly being stated on the quote I'd assume its just some light insurance fraud. 16 days ago I asked Tyler A. for an estimate if I brought in my parts and if he didn't do any paint work, I don't have an email back. read more

Absolutely vivid. Scam artists. Summer resident, and got an estimate from my local auto body shop, but thought that I'd try someone closer to where the car is garaged, so went to Hewitts. They came in a few hundred less because of the parts cost. Made an appointment right away, and dropped the car off 8 days later. Three hours and 150 miles away, I got a call about a spike in cost of the bumper. Repairs were made, but when I picked up the car, I complained about the $350 increase in price of the part, more than double what was quoted. I asked if they verified availability of the part at time of quote, and was assured they did, and that was the price at the time of quote. Received no explanation regarding the increase. I insisted they honor the quote. Hewitts refused. Even offered to pay half the increase. Refused again. Guess what Hewitts? Don't be fooled by the out of state plates thinking this was a one time chance to scam someone from away. I live next town over 9 months of the year, and own a business not far away. You suck, you cheat, you scam, and no one should ever use your services unless they expect to be f**ked. By the way, this was a hit and run, and completely out of pocket repair. read more
