Hey ladies, if, like me, you find a hard time having to make a U-turn almost at the end of…read moreKatipunan Avenue just to get to Laybare for a wax, your problems have been solved! Hey Sugar! is a newly opened Waxing Salon at the ground floor of UP Town Center's mall that offers not only waxing services for both men and women, but also threading and eyelash extension. Although more expensive than the more popular waxing salon at the other side of Katipunan Avenue, the experience was definitely better. I availed of a hot waxing service for my legs because they had a 30% off on Hot Wax Services promo and I read somewhere that hot waxing is a better though more expensive option than cold waxing. I was reluctant to try hot wax at first, but my waxer was very reassuring. She even adjusted the heat level of my wax when I found it too hot at first application. After a while, I got the hang of it. My waxer was nice and courteous, and normally I don't like conversing while I'm getting waxed, but I loved speaking with her. The only regret I have was that I neglected to ask her for her name. When I go back, I'll find out for sure! As for the waxing service, you really have to set aside time when getting a wax. If you're looking for quick service, better try cold wax or cheaper waxing salons because Hey Sugar! values quality. My wax was 30 minutes long because my waxer made sure not a single strand of hair was left on my legs (I availed of the half-leg service). She even applied cold wax after the hot wax for the stubborn strands, and afterwards, a threading technique to take out the really tiny strands. I also love how it's All-Natural and All-Organic sugar wax that they use. Hooray for sustainable living!

I was charged ₱1035, but they said that Paymaya declined it even though I got a notification that ₱1035 has been deducted from my account. So I paid the same amount via gcash. They told me that after 2 hours, I'll see the ₱1035 in my bank account again. It's been 16 days, and that ₱1035 is still not in my account. I reported the incident via email - no response. The one who manages their Instagram page said they'll conduct an investigation. Took days before they responded, btw. When I followed up, they just told me to call the branch directly. Wow.

Ok. So here's the thing. I've never been professionally waxed before, much less a brazilian but…read morethere's a first time for everything and today, I was like, dammit let's do this. According to my friends and all the reviews I've read about it, it will hurt. Like seriously. With that in mind, I braced myself for the worst. And here's my verdict - it. did. hurt. like. hell. But it was also worth it. And it helped a lot that Lay Bare was a place with non-intimidating vibes especially for noobs like me. It was clean and the staff were courteous. Big thumbs up also to my wax lady, Ate Jacq, as she was so chill and gentle and understanding about all the quirks I had about the whole process, it being my first time and everything. In hindsight, the experience was really good and I can't help but be grateful for that, aside from the fact that their services are affordable. Good job, Lay Bare! The only downside is that they don't have a branch in Cebu yet and I'm going home next year. Waaah! Come to Cebu already!

Getting a wax is, to me, one of the things I /need/ to feel secure about. After reading reviews online, all sources point to Lay Bare Katipunan as the most credible waxing salon. And yes, I'm here to testify that their service is fast, efficient, and clean. They also make use of cold wax so it doesn't hurt as much as hot wax does. The waxing ladies are also courteous and amiable, and they don't even initiate embarrassing conversations with you as you get your wax. Plus, there's hardly any line! So for those ladies who are absolutely terrified of haphazardly performed waxing service, or of the pain of hair removal, Lay Bare is definitely the place for you!

Upon entering the place, I was greeted by the soft, relaxing tones of their pink-gray-white color palette. Then, I found the prices of their services neatly written on a chalkboard conveniently placed just above the counter. Also, adding to the prettiness of the interior were chic frames hanging on a wall. If you do not find those things attractive enough, I tell you: Just sitting on their chairs was a treat in itself. Both pretty and functional, the chairs looked like the throne of a princess and had a pull-out cabinet with what looked like a built-in basin for foot soaking. The mani-pedi area was elevated and I was asked to leave my slippers on the lower level so that the elevated flooring could remain clean. The waxing rooms, I noticed, had their own mini-aircon. Finally, all their polishes and implements were organized in their respective cabinets. I've visited the place twice and have tried their waxing and pedicure services. For the waxing, I have to say they were very detailed and careful. Unlike my experience in other spas or nail/waxing salons, I almost did not feel any pain when they waxed my eyebrows. I found the same attention to detail when they did my pedicure. An added perk to my pedicure experience was being asked to choose the scent of foot scrub and mask. With the services I've tried, I could say Oppa Nail Spa is worth coming back to. But, if I could suggest any improvement, I wish they could add packages for manicure and pedicure where the customer could save even just a small price for getting both. As it is, they only have packages for waxing.

If I had my way, I'd never, ever set foot inside a dermatology clinic ever again. However, as luck would have it, I happen to be blessed with oily (or maybe combination) skin filled with pores so big, you can count them from meters away. Yuck. So I kind of have to undergo such painful (read: tiis-ganda) procedure every now and then. The thing is, much like Timon, I have a low threshold for pain. And given my painful experience as far as having my face pricked and poked and squeezed, I may have acquired a slight phobia. But, like I said, tiis-ganda. I had a date looming in and I'd very much like to put my best face forward. I availed of Let's Face It's facial cleaning and seaweed mask package and after an extremely painful session (during which I cried and cursed and bit my tongue and almost smacked the lady!), my face did get noticeably brighter. Good job, Let's Face It. Too bad I wasn't able to muster the courage to come back for another session though!
