This firm was recommended to us by another attorney who was unable to assist us because our real estate issue was outside his area of expertise. We met with Alix Claps and thought the meeting went well. We had a plan coming away from our discussion. We waited the first 3 weeks for her to look into additional documentation that could be helpful, and were advised it would take 2-3 weeks for the first step of her obtaining additional information. It took exactly 3 weeks and she waited until Friday at the close of business to send it. The email she sent with information she collected wasn't incredibly helpful in moving things along, and nothing in her reply mentioned what the next steps would be, just a "here's what I found" message. I replied the same day asking for clarification as to what do we do now? She has essentially wasted over a month of our time and proceeded to ghost us following my email with questions. After 11 days waiting for a reply, we will not be working with this firm. After sending a final email to her today to inform her of this, she decided that the best way to reply was to say: "I'm sorry you feel that way. I have been in Court almost continuously since I sent you the documents on April 10. Since nothing in your matter appeared to be urgent at the time, my response was delayed." At no point did she relay to us that her busy schedule would mean we wouldn't know when we would hear from her. Her final communication came across as rude and arrogant, without a genuine apology, and making excuses as to why she couldn't send a quick email back to us, highlighting how her time is much more important than potential clients who have no idea what is happening in the process or what timeline we are now working on. Trying to work with her turned out to be a giant waste of time with virtually no follow through, but magically she can answer promptly when called out on her lack of courtesy, professionalism, and communication. If you don't have time for a client's case, an ethical attorney should disclose that. At no point were we told our potential case was so unimportant it would be thrown to the bottom of a pile somewhere with zero updates. Interesting to see that during the nearly two weeks we waited for her to reply, she had plenty of time to make and post daily video episodes about legal topics on the firm's Facebook page. Too busy to be bothered with "non urgent" client emails though. I think waiting 11 days for a simple email reply or acknowledgment is more than patient, Alix. If you need an attorney who has strong communication, demonstrates professionalism, and doesn't leave you wondering what is going on with your case I do not recommend this firm. read more

Took money without permission, i would not recommend. As we went through a divorce, Stephen did not ask for payment from my ex, he simply took money from an escrow account without permission. After asking him multiple times to reimburse me, and bill my ex, he just took money. read more

I had a probate matter. It was simple to begin with to just with the court that I was an interested party and maybe more after that. They stalled for 6 weeks. They collected all the information they could ever want and then they said they would not help and they did not return my money. They knew it was urgent and that I needed the money to hire another lawyer if they were stepping down but they did not return it. I am handicapped. I am elderly. Inadequate Service For the divorce proceeding, you will be told by Ronald Heymann and a mediator that you should never go before a judge. Indeed, the mediator will scare you from this option by claiming that going before a judge may take a year and cost up to $20,000. Mind you, my mediation was supposed to have occurred the day before. The mediator was unprofessional enough to mislay paperwork, thereby delaying the meeting one day, and lacked even the minimal decency to apologize for it. Since I am a professor, that would be like me showing up for a class on a day it didn't occur. Of course, I don't do that. Heymann listened silently to the mediator's prepared speech in a Zoom call. The truth is that neither party desires to go before a judge. So I could have used this as leverage to drive the price down, if only I had been apprised of that option. But I received no such professional advice. I had a compelling story to tell, but didn't get to tell it. This would have saved me a minimum of $11,000. But rather than use my ex-wife and her lawyer's reluctance to go before a judge as a bargaining chip in the negotiation, Heymann sat there and let this exercise in extended mediocrity continue for an hour. He steered me down the path of least resistance. Heymann listened to the mediator's "appeal to fear" argument in silence. I teach logic and so I know this is as an ad baculum argument, which is designed to frighten you from a rational choice by use of fear. Had I been advised appropriately, I would have said 'They can take this amount or leave it.' And they would likley have taken it rather than (1) wait a year (or more) and (2) risk the chance of getting less than my offer or even nothing. I learned that Heymann was chummy with both the mediator, to whom he actually promised to steer more business when the meeting was coming to an end. Then he commented about the opposing lawyer's golf game. It dawned on me that his ongoing relationships with these two were more important to him than getting the best deal for me. Let me put that a diferent way. The roughly $7,000 I paid in legal fees was not important enough to him to give me the savvy advice I needed. I rated second place, below the interests of his pals. What happened with the mediator was expedient, but was neither fair nor just. It was a proceeding that gave me no leverage. When I told him that this was just horse trading and that I didn't get to tell my story he said, "sad but true." That's it. A tepid response worth nothing. This firm has been in charge of my mother's estate for several years. It should have taken about one to one and a half years. We were subjected to attorneys quitting and new attorneys being assigned. The newly-assigned attorneys weren't brought up to speed by their predecessors. The partners did not facilitate a smooth transition. Work was filed late. They lost track of estate funds. If you're a victim of domestic violence and want to hire Mr. Fletcher, think again. Stephen K. Fletcher is a lawyer advertising for the BWLAP and states that he is an advocate for women, when in reality he also represents abusers. Sounds like a big conflict of interest and a broken moral compass to me. Sure everyone deserves a fair trial and legal representation, but Mr. Fletcher represented my abuser in court. While in court Mr. Fletcher tried to get the charges dismissed stating that domestic violence case law needs to happen multiple times and not only once. So ladies if your abuser hits you more than once Mr. Fletcher is the lawyer for you, if it was only the first time you've been stuck though, you might want to move on. While looking at the pictures of my bruised body Mr. Fletcher stated, "it's just a black eye." Instead of taking a logical defense Mr. Fletcher bullied me and belittled my injuries. Throughout the day Mr. Fletcher brought up that I was drinking the night of the abuse and remarked that if I was drunk how could my statements be truthful? Basically because I was drunk I couldn't be trusted and therefore deserved it. How can a man who represents abusers in such a belligerent way also be an advocate for battered women? Mr. Fletcher doesn't care about women who have been abused he's just in it for the money. Save your money and go elsewhere. If you're up against Fletcher in court though, you're in luck!
