The service is fast and delightful here, there's a little bit of a line during dinner hours but the food is well worth the wait. Easily in my husband and I's top 5 favorite restaurants. We live in Wichita but will make the trip just for this place. We've never been disappointed and the servings are plenty for the price. We tell everyone we know about it and let them know it is absolutely worth the drive. If only they could reopen another location here! We'd be regulars. I got my food came home and realize there were only four potstickers in the bag and not the 16 that I ordered so I called and she had me talk to the manager and she said that she FOR SURE put 16 in the bag when that is in fact false information. So tasty and such a great environment! As soon as you walk in it smells amazing. The menu is up on the wall to the right, and free suckers "for a smile". After you order, the drink station to the left also has tea cups, if you are interested in something other than soda or water. There are usual dishes like General Tso's and Sesame Chicken; however, the Hibachi options are fantastic if you want something fresh and grilled. This is not hibachi. This is a Japanese restaurant that serves tradition hibachi dishes without the show that is expected when going to a hibachi restaurant. My wife and I ordered the hibachi boy deluxe . Chicken and shrimp and filet mignon. With fried rice. My son got a hibachi kids teriyaki chicken. Went to go get drinks and the sweet tea was all water. The sprite tasted like seltzer water as well. The rice was crunchy and cold like old rice actually all of our food was cold. I asked for my filet to be rare and it was tough and chewy and very well done. Needless to say we won't be returning. You order at the counter like your in a cafeteria and no one seats you or explains the menu. I don't know how this place has four stars. read more

LOVE this place! I used to be loyal to the Wasabi's we have throughout Wichita when it came to my sushi cravings, but I'm so happy I found Hibachi boy. I've been here 20+ times and I've never been disappointed. It's 1/2 the price of everywhere else but just as good if not better quality than everywhere else. The best sushi in town. I want to eat all of their sushi. Fresh, fast service, and not overly priced. This place is a must if you're in Derby or surrounding areas. Five stars! All the way. I don't see why this place has any negative reviews. The restaurant is decorated nicely, the building isn't the largest, maybe seating 40, but nothing to complain about. Clean facility and friendly staff, we received our food within about five minutes of ordering, the menu is well displayed on three flat screen tvs. As for the food, it is better than most Asian places in Kansas. The plate was well balanced between rice, noodles, vegetables, and meat and sauce. I had the hibachi chicken with garlic, it was very well seasoned, tasted amazing, and was a decent portion size. Not the most food I've received on a plate, but for $7 it was not bad. I also got the Big Boy Trio, three spring rolls, three crab rangoon, and three dumplings for $4.50. Amazing value. Otherwise the appetizers were $.99. I also had the crispy spicy tuna roll it was FANTASTIC!! It was drizzled in a delicious sauce and they asked if I wanted ginger and wasabi, so that's nice if you don't like ginger or wasabi, you won't be wasting any. The texture was not mushy or soggy, the tuna was excellent quality, and overall it's some of the best sushi I have had in town. Overall this restaurant is one that I recommend. Don't drive past it as it is easy to miss - tucked away in a strip mall - this place has it all. Just walked out of the restaurant, after spending 36.00 we got a appetizer a sushi roll and hibachi deluxe along with four drinks. We thought we were going to get a lot of food. Wow were we WRONG. Then sushi roll was 90% cream cheese, the noodles were gross, the steak was decent, the shrimp could be eaten or left off the plate and you wouldn't miss much. It was so sad we had to go to another restaurant to just get enough food to feed our family. We love sushi and have eaten it at amazing restaurants across this nation, sadly this place doesn't fall on that list. You could go to Panda Express, which says a lot since that's fast food, and get better noodles and food and a wasabi for better sushi. Very sad, oh well to wasabi we go for real sushi. read more

I love the affordability of the menu and great variety included. The staff is very welcoming and polite, and even though the line is occasionally pretty long, the food is definitely worth it. On that note, I wish there was a different system for people who call in orders. When I call in, it's typically because I am in a rush. Getting to the restaurant to pick up my food and having to wait in the main line to pay, behind 8 or 9 people sometimes, is an inconvenience. Maybe a smaller, less intricate system could be used for those just picking up? All in all, still a wonderful place with spacious seating to enjoy a massive plate of fried rice. read more

I love hibachi so I figured I'd try this place out on my lunch break. I was disappointed with the food. For the price you pay you get very little protein and mostly rice, noodles and bean sprouts. We WERE very impressed with the food flavor and quantity of the dinners, for the first 4 times we went with our family of 3 teenage boys, than we started having problems, we placed a to go order, only to get home 30 min later in Winfield ks, and have NO rice or Noodles that we had ordered, we do not only eat just meat, we called and told them we had no rice or noodles, they were NOT apologetic, just said they forgot to put it in bag, would not even refund our money, my boys did not even get full off our $60.00 dinner. Since the boys did like there food we decided to give it another try tonight. The dinner was so skimpy on portion size it was awful! They even got one of our dinners wrong, it was not what we ordered. we will never return again. The only thing I can ding them for are the little bitty napkins they provide for their customers to use. This is my favorite place in Derby, KS to eat. The Teriyaki Chicken Bowl (sans mushrooms) is great. The atmosphere is nice. The restaurant is clean. Most impressive (other than the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl), however is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Wow. Luxurious lavatory! Overall, Hibachi Boy is a great place to eat. We walked in the door at 8:10 PM. Supposedly the place closes at nine. A girl who worked there had half of this tiny place closed off and was sitting there chatting with two of her friends. We stood there and waited to see if we needed to be seated but I couldn't get her to talk to me! We finally just walked in there was one table that was un-occupied but it was filthy and had garbage on top. We stood there for a minute and then we walked back up to the front and the girl still wouldn't talk to us! There was a sign there that said " this section closed for cleaning, sorry for the inconvenience". We finally just walked out the door. Will never go back. I have ordered multiple times in the past year, but I will never order from this restaurant again. My family ordered two entrees and a side about half an hour before they closed. The first mistake they made was charging us for three entrees, but because they did not read my order back I didn't know. My husband had to pick it up before they closed and didn't know I'd only ordered two or he would have returned the extra entree and requested a refund for it. That was only the first of many problems. The sweet and sour chicken had no veggies in it even though it normally does. I had requested broccoli which is supposed to come with it and was told they didn't have it anymore by the person taking my order. The past two or three orders they had given us no broccoli and didn't even tell us. It just showed up that way. The person taking my order put "no veggies" on the order so they didn't even put the veggies that normally come with the sweet and sour chicken in it. In addition, the amount of hibachi beef was about half what it normally is. So we payed for an extra entree, one that had half the amount of hibachi beef, the vegetables were completely missing from the sweet and sour chicken because of the mistakes of the person on the phone, and on top of that this was the third or fourth time we couldn't get any broccoli on an entree that is supposed to include it. When I called back the following day to demand a full refund, I was given many different and often conflicting answers about various situations. After requesting many times to speak to a manager over the course of the conversation, I was first told that she was on the phone. Later I was told she couldn't be reached because she's in Thailand. I was told her husband was there but that he couldn't do anything. Then I was told she might be in the back but she didn't know. I waited about ten minutes and finally hung up (I'd been arguing for 30 minutes about trying to get a full refund and being told there was no way they could do that). I was argued with at every point regarding ALL of the mistakes on our order. I was told we should have come back with the food if we wanted a refund to which I responded that we arrived only a minute or two before they closed so we only found all of the mistakes when we came home after they had closed. After being argued with about the food ("Well the hibachi always comes with the same amount" "We don't serve broccoli with the sweet and sour chicken anymore" "Your order says "no veggies" on the entrees" "Well, we run out of broccoli on the weekends sometimes" "That menu on public websites isn't updated and we haven't taken care of it yet") I was told the best they could do was give me a free entree. I was told that they only do full refunds if they haven't made someone's food yet and they change it. In other words, it's not that they couldn't. It's that they didn't want to. I said, "I will not accept that for an answer. I want to speak to a manager and I want a full refund." That's when I was told the manager was going to Thailand. Really??? Wow. There were so many conflicting stories not only between the person taking the order originally, but between the stories I was told by the person the next day when I called to demand a refund. I will NEVER eat here again. If your menu is wrong on public sites, it is YOUR responsibility to get it updated as the business owner. If you regularly run out of broccoli it is your responsibility to make sure your restaurant is properly stocked (it should not happen every time someone orders). If your staff makes major mistakes regarding food, it is your responsibility to actually fix it and to teach your employees manners. If a customer calls to complain, your employees should not be arguing with them for half an hour to get you out of getting a refund. I was never once given an apology for the many mistakes. Horrible customer service and quality control. Never again. read more
