Late night pho run... Only place for pho in Wichita that's open this late. I'll start with my dish-- the pho. The broth was pretty good and full of flavor. The meat was a bit chewy and wasn't the typical thin slices that you'd expect in most pho. The ONLY thing I would add/change, is thinner meat and maybe some mint. They brought jalapeños and bean sprouts but no mint. Which isn't a big deal at all. My husband got the combo fried rice... I LOVED it!!! This was my first time trying this place, and boy, was it a mistake! I should have gone to Sapporo instead. We ordered online and I picked up at the restaurant. I ordered a grilled salmon salad; what I got was salmon skin covered in avocado on a lettuce garnish (see photo). This salad was also $8.50. Sapporo's salad is big enough for an entire meal and costs less. Also, the it took the staff fifteen minutes and two different cards to accept the payment. My husband ordered two rolls. One roll was supposed to be fried and come with a sauce; it was neither fried nor served with sauce. The second roll was supposed to be served without mayo; it was still served with mayo. However, he did say both were tasty. All in all, I will not be returning to this establishment, and I recommend you try Sapporo at Kellogg and Rock instead. read more

I'm not a fan of their rolls, but love their Spicy Octopus Temaki (hand-rolled cone) and the baked mussels appetizer. Their fried rice and noodles are also pretty tasty! Service wise, you get a range of good to inattentive services from time to time. But given it being pretty slow most of the time, I don't expect them to hire 2-3 waiters super late at night to cater to me. I'm just glad they're open late and always strive to maintain the food quality no matter what time of the day it is. Owner and waiters are super laid back and friendly as well. I'm struggling with this review. That's often the case where I have great friendly service, but the food just doesn't deliver. This restaurant was very out of the way for us, but my husband has been trying to make it out here for a long time now. The owner is Chinese born in Vietnam and spoke both languages. He and his staff were very friendly and checked up on us frequently. Of course, this is a rarity in Asian restaurants. We ordered: Caterpillar roll- Cute! The use of maraschino cherries for eyes and antennae was very fun. And I'm not one to opt for these types of rolls, but I thought it was likely my favorite roll of the meal. 7/10 Rainbow roll- Nothing outstanding. Standard in taste. Maybe I like the caterpillar roll more b/c there was more sauce? Or perhaps I just tried a dry piece. 5/10 Ikura nigiri- The chef just had it flown in, and he prepares the ikura directly from the egg sac himself. There were still a rare bit of membrane, but the flavor was good. Admittedly, these were larger pieces, but I think I would have paid the same price at Kanai for maybe even a bit more ikura, and it would've been tastier. 5/10 Saba sashimi- This one was harder for me to judge, b/c the chef made the dish in the Japanese style, which is more vinegary. I prefer the more common saltier style, but could still see the care in the preparation. The saba pieces were smaller than average though. I ordered this dish with rice, which I perhaps should have specified sushi rice. Normal jasmine rice would have sufficed, but whatever grain they used was not in the least bit sticky, and the flavor wasn't as fragrant. It really took away from the fish. I'm particular about the rice texture, b/c it doesn't matter if you have good buttery sashimi if you pair it with drier, harder rice. The mouth feel is completely off. Sushi means rice; that's how key rice is. 4/10 I never addressed any of my issues with the staff, and I know if I did, they would have resolved it. I think that given the pride and hard work the owner puts into the restaurant, you should give it a try and make your way out here. But b/c it's so far for us, and there are other sushi restaurants on our side of town, I'll stick with what I have. read more

If you enjoy spending $40 for sushi so frozen that you have to warm it up over the hot tea you ordered, then this is the place for you. We waited a good 30 minutes after our food arrived, before we could thaw out the rock-solid fish enough to eat it. Most didn't thaw out well enough to even eat, and was so waterlogged and freezer burnt that it shouldn't have been served in the first place. It was obvious that the tuna was served to us frozen because it should have been thrown away a week before. We ended up taking a piece home because we were afraid we might need the sample in case we got food poisoning, which is always a good time. The chef visited our table after our complaint and stated that he was told by a local TV personality and by the health department that he had to keep is freezers at 36 °F. That's funny, because water freezes at 32 °F and this fish was visibly frozen. In all of my years of eating sushi, I've never had it served to me hard and frozen. There was no offer to make the situation right. After being blown away when we visited the old location, I really felt blown off when we visited the new location. read more

Jackie last location was a tiny place seating less than ten or twenty but serviced a loyal and steady carry out customer base. This new location can seat about 70 but the carry out is still a brisk business due to the large menu selection of tasty Japanese dishes. Our drink orders taken and then our food (an appetizer and a large order of Pho for myself), the food trickles out to the table including my appetizer of sweet and sour chicken which was great and gone in 5 minutes while everyone ate their meal. The waitress comes and asks if we are doing okay and we all agree and that's when it is beginning to be apparent they've forgotten. 45 minutes into our meal she comes back and I ask if my Pho is still coming and her eyes light up and she says yes. Ten minutes later my pho comes out. Tastes great but eating by myself in front of my friends. Receive our checks and get charged the full price for their mistake then we wait fifteen minutes while they boot up their register/credit card machine and get it going. I haven't eaten at this location since it was Sakura, and was hoping it would be basically the same, just with a new name. I just received a $40 UberEats order (I ordered a variety of items to see how they held up to delivery), and am disappointed. Besides just the portion size being half what it used to be for the Teppanyaki and clearly made with lower quality ingredients, the Bento Box A was delivered missing both the sweet and sour sauce for the s&s chicken as well as the pork stick. I also ordered crab rangoon and, for the price, was expecting real crab rangoon, not the hard, chewy, Americanized version that you can get at any dillons or budget buffet. No sauce for that either, though to be fair they didn't advertise there was any. I ordered Vietnamese coffee and got a styrofoam cup full of ice and regular coffee with milk and sugar. I wasn't expecting them to deliver an actual glass with the coffee and condensed milk in layers. This should be advertised as iced Vietnamese coffee to avoid confusion. I knew I was going to have leftovers for awhile, but I didn't expect to lose my appetite after seeing how bad the order was. I do feel bad cause the man running the place runs it alone. So prepare for long wait time but be kind it's only one man running the whole place. My one star is based on the food. I don't get sushi but if you like sushi go here. If you like noodle dishes do not go here. I ordered a chicken stir fry with lo mein noodles and it was squishy like watery and inedible It just tasted like water with way overcooked noodles and unseasoned.
