What a awesome camp ground ! Park like grounds, great play ground for kids , dog park & great folks . We stopped on our way x country and got a great night of sleep , hot shower & loved the views of America's heart land . Went into town & ate at Red's bar & grill which was awesome! The town was so quaint with pizza shop, coffee shop & market & giftshop . Again , just so down to earth. A man met us at the gate and showed us to our site telling us that they were building a pool for next year. Their daughter in law answered the phone when we called from hours away and was so kind & helpful. They were just starting to decorate for Halloween and doing a amazingly creative job . I love Halloween so I throughly enjoyed it. We already said that we will make this a stopping point each way every year and spend a extra day or 2 here. read more

We come and stay here every year. They have a new pool and a new shower house. There is a canal owned by the state that my dog just loves to play in. The sites are roomy and clean at this campground. There are rules to be followed but we like that. It keeps everyone happy.... As long as they follow the rules....if you can't follow rules then this might not be the place for you. This is a great place to wind down. It's quiet and clean... these people put a lot of effort into their property. I was told no rugs because it kills the grass... got it.... read more

The campground is beautiful, quiet, and dark. Easy access to 80. But camper beware! We were told not to put a rug on the grass because it kills it. The grass was already dead when we got there and muddy. I suggested that if she doesn't want the grass killed by a rug to post it on her website "no rugs allowed" or put a really big sign with the rest of the sign rules upon entrance. I really did not enjoy the "scolding" that she gave me for putting a rug down. The other issue I found was the shower/restroom was so far away from the campers near the edge of a woods. There are no locks on your showers and the outside is very dark. I was not comfortable at all going there alone. read more

We stayed here one night on our trip home. The owner was very accommodating!! We got there late and she let us use her golf cart to get to the bathroom for the night . The bathrooms were gorgeous!!! As we travel back and forth from Michigan to California 2-3 times per year with an RV, we're always looking for quaint, nature filled RV parks! Hickory Ridge rates at the top. When we checked in the nice lady said, "you've stayed with us before, right?" I didn't think so but she looked in her computer and said, "yes you have.. in 2023!" Sometimes when traveling in winter months, we arrive after dark and leave early which was likely the case in 2023! But yesterday, we arrived early and had the opportunity to enjoy this lovely spot, walking our pups, and admiring the surrounding cornfields! It's a hugh park filled with trees, open spaces, shade, and expansive walking and biking trails! The icing on top is they have elaborate spread of Halloween creatures ALL over the park! Since Halloween is my bday, I enjoyed the monsters and decorations soooo much! This is a definite spot for us on our long journeys ahead! read more

We stayed here last year on our way to Mackinaw Island in Michigan. We liked it so much we stopped for 2 nights on the way back home. This year we made our reservation again as we head east on our way to Niagara Falls. Campground is nice and clean and conveniently located off of I80. Joan remembered our group of 7 and was just as nice this year as she was last year!!! read more

The rules in place are welcome as they help provide a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere to campers wanting to enjoy their time outdoors. They hold frequent events engaging the camping community and providing activities to those looking for additional ways to enjoy their time. The campground is well maintained and the owners, along with their helpers, go out of their way to provide a great experience for anyone wanting to spend the weekend or be a long term resident camper. The owner is very rude and unprofessional. I was staying here while working in the area so I was paying month to month to month, during my second month there I asked if I would receive any money back if I was to leave 2 week early. I was then cursed at my the owner and kicked out just for asking a simple question. In the owners comment below you will see that I was late on rent. I was only late because it took her those 15 days to finally tell me how much the electric bill was. This is a perfect location for a campground. It is one mile north of interstate 80 (exit 45 = Hwy 40), then one mile west on 1745 Avenue. Our site is a long pull through with a grass side yard. There is plenty of room for Big Rigs and additional vehicles. It was early May and the CG was not completely open. Washrooms were locked due to COVID. Flowering trees are dispersed about the property and they were opening. Very lovely. The park is in the middle of the Hennepin Canal which provides small boat access to the canal, biking on the tow path or plenty of walking. The canal isn't fully functional but from Hickory Grove you can access to the retention pond and beyond. The tow path is better for dirt or bikes with all terrain tires. I used a long wheel base recumbent and had a rough road in some spots. I observed deer, muskrat, herons, geese, ducks, various birds, and snakes. We stayed at this RV park in a 38' fifth wheel in May, 2021. read more

The campsites are very spacious (You're not packed in on top of each other). The grounds are beautifully kept and maintained. Trees and bird everywhere. We stayed one night here during our trip from Indiana to Iowa, it was quite park, looked like there were several seasonal campers here. The owners were polite and were standing outside waiting for us to arrive (late arrival). We were escorted to our site by a gentleman on golf cart directing us to swing wide in order for us to make our turn into the area. We would stay again. We have a 41' fifth wheel. read more

The owner/operator will say anything to get you in and then will make life hard for you. The husband and help there are great, the place is beautiful and well cared for, but the lady that runs it always need a nemesis and is more than happy to run you down to other campers. Hickory Grove is an absolutely lovely campground! The sites are generous & the grounds are extremely well kept. This is a HUGE property that winds through the trees, I highly recommend taking a walk through to see it all. While most of the lots are seasonal, all are immaculate & you can really tell that everyone takes pride in their piece of this oasis! We were originally booked to stay 4 nights but extended 1 more. The day we arrived, our little cat escaped from our RV. We looked around for her for days and finally decided to make flyers & let the community know to keep an eye out for her. When I brought a flyer to the office, Joan didn't just agree to hang it and watch for her, she contacted local animal control to arrange for me to borrow a live trap to help catch our girl. Next, Joan asked one of the seasonal residents (thank you Will & Carol!) to bring some of their live traps to give us a better chance of bringing her home. After 2 nights of traps, we were successful & were able to continue our adventure with our family intact! This isn't just a lovely campground, Joan & Dave have created an incredible community and I cannot recommend them enough. read more

Prices are great, activities on weekends, tons of space, and since it's out in the country the wildlife, stars, and Hennepin Canal add even more to this campground. Terrible Customer Service! I was visiting family for a few hours and upon my departure some very rude woman claiming to be the owner signaled me from the distance and claimed at first I was speeding which is funny because I just was stopped emptying some trash. Then she claims I owed her $5 for entry but I never saw a sign. She asked who I was visiting, I told her family and she responded with " well I won't charge you but I will shake them down later!" If this was the owner, maybe she needs a customer service class....don't support this kind of business and go somewhere where you won't get "shaken down"! read more

Nice, quiet campground off the beaten path. Nestled in the country with lots of trees and about 3 miles from I-80, this park is well managed by an owner that takes care of the customers. Mostly seasonal campers here - we encountered a friendly group while walking through the park. The campers love the new owners. Our site was good but not level. Utilities are in good shape. This is a great place to relax. We stayed here in a motorhome and would definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed here in April 2108. It was difficult to find from my google map and so I called. Lady was hurried and yelling at kids, said she didn't live there, but barked the multiple turns to find the place. Said she'd meet us there. She wasn't on site so we looked around. Pretty rundown, though they were adding little cabins. She arrived and had us park in uneven, dirt/gravel unlevel spot. Okay, to be fair, it was a big spot with lots of grassy lawn-recently mowed with a picnic table. We walked back to the "creek" behind the campground. Bugs, bugs, bugs. It was a drainage ditch, swampy and dirty. The ladies bathroom was dark, rustic but useable. Shower okay. When husband went to dump our tank, their holding tank was so full it backed up into our pipe and blew off, spewing other people's raw sewage all over his feet. We call it "the creepy campground." read more

We stopped here for the night on our way . I called ahead and the owner held a spot for us. So glad we stayed here. The owner was really nice and made us feel welcomed. She saw we had kids with us and asked if we'd prefer a spot next to the playground. She helped us settle in to our spacious, grassy site with some nice shade trees and plenty of space between Campers. There was a nice picnic table, a fun playground and a fire pit. she offered to deliver fire wood and told us there was pizza delivery if we wanted it. The full hookups were great.we loved having a hot shower in the trailer. There was a small, basic shower/restroom that was clean. All in all a nice stop over on our trip and we will come back the next time we come through the area! read more

Hickory Grove Campground was one of the prettiest campgrounds that we stayed at during our 6 week tour of the US. There are lots of mature trees, well kept grounds and campsites with plenty of room between campers. The new owners, Joan and Dave, are the wonderful kind of people you would love to be friends with if you lived nearby. They were in the process of making a number of improvements to the property. We did not notice any mosquitos while we were there. My husband and I are looking forward to making Hickory Grove a stop on our next trip out west. read more

Mosquito Heaven seems like a more appropriate name for this campground. They could almost carry you away. The current managers are quite difficult to deal with and act like they could care less if they get your business. Save yourself the trouble and stay somewhere else. read more
