We are SO glad we found Hickory Hill! They watched our very anxious rescue for over a week and were so very patient and kind. Noreen and Stu worked with our pup over the stay slowly making her feel comfortable and by the end she was clearly cozy with both of them. Noreen also sent us lots of updates giving us peace of mind. We have two German Shepherds who are very high energy, and a lot for most people to handle. They had never been boarded before prior to their stay at Hickory Hill. We boarded the two dogs for 11 days in the "Westminster Suites"- half indoor, half outdoor. You had the option to book walks and playtime for extra fees, which we did a 2 mile walk plus playtime each day. Our bill ended up being $1150 (credit, debit, cash, or check accepted). There was also the option for the dogs to be groomed before pick up, and for the staff to drop off or pick up your dog at home, if you lived close enough. The staff was very friendly and reassuring. I met with the female owner when dropping the dogs off and she took time to answer my questions and then ask some of her own. She helped me walk the two dogs to their kennel and showed me where they would be staying. I brought some toys and bedding for them and she went through each with me to see what they could have unsupervised and what to take away if need be. They sent photos of the two dogs throughout the week and provided little tidbits of how the dogs were doing. When I went to pick the dogs up, both owners and (I'm assuming) their daughter or a helper chatted with me for a while and told me all about the dogs' stay. To my surprise, they all said the dogs had a great time and were very fun to play with and walk. They told me stories about their interactions with the dogs. Like I mentioned, my two dogs are a lot to handle and very high energy. So it was a giant relief to know that the owners actually enjoyed them. From what they said, and how comfortable the dogs were around them, it was clear that the dogs did just fine in their care. My experience with Hickory Hill Kennel was seamless. I was very nervous about boarding the dogs, but knowing they were in such great hands during their stay is worth every penny to me. I would definitely recommend this business! Pricy, but you get what you pay for. We will be returning here! read more

Hickory Hill has new owners since the pandemic started- so keep that in mind with some of these older reviews! Our dog is a rescue and very, very anxious and cautious with new people. He is down right afraid of men. We were very nervous to board him and put him in the nicest suites to make sure he wouldn't be bothered much by other dogs as he is also not particularly dog friendly. The owners were patient, reassuring, and went out of their way to have a female employee walk our dog with the male employee until he became more accustomed to the man who usually walks the dog. On our dog's second stay he was apparently calm, friendly and playful. The owners didn't make us feel weird about bringing homemade food and special treats for him (which I was worried about) and sent us texts during the week to let us know he was doing well. We'd totally recommend Hickory Hill and feel so relieved that we have a place to board our anxious rescue dog! read more

We just boarded our dog here for six days and have only positive things to say about Hickory Hill. This was our first time boarding our dog with non-family members and we're so grateful everything worked out. Our dog is a rescue and is anxious and timid. We let the owners know in advance and they were so great with her. They even let us check in with them during the week via text to make sure everything was okay, which put us at ease. We opted for the Westminster Suite which was air conditioned and provided the dog with a large outdoor run for exercise. We picked the dog up and she looked happy and did not lose weight, which is a testament to how wonderful this facility is. While Hickory Hill is about a 90 minute drive from us, we'll definitely board our dog here in the future. read more

These people are rude and in my opinion don't seem to care about the pets just about the money. I took my Bichon there about 4 times and each time I felt scolded for something...I was 3 min late, 5 minutes early, he looked too dirty. They are ridiculous. They aren't even excited about your pet. I don't think they like dogs...it's just a business. read more

Had my dog "groomed" here and it was a disaster. I don't think the person who did the grooming had done anything besides shave dogs. Besides being the most expensive "grooming" I've ever paid for, it was just a very short shave job and not a good one at that. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend Hickory Hill, although they did come highly recommended to us by two separate people. Our lab came home with a significant skin infection on his face which required shaving, steroids, 21 days of antibiotics, a topical soap, and a cream. This is a dog who has never had a skin issue and whose coat and skin were fine when we dropped him off. Upon arrival home after a 6 day board with our other dog, we noticed right away he had an issue. Initially we thought it was a simple hot spot, however our vet shaved his head, face, and neck which revealed the extent. I received a text message a few days into their stay letting me know that they were both doing well. No mention of any skin issue at that time, nor when they were picked up to go home. When I inquired about whether the staff had noticed any issues, I was informed that they did notice his skin was less than "pristine" however gave me no timeline for when this occurred. I have been asked to chalk it up to the bad weather that occurred during their stay including heat and humidity- although I was also assured they had air conditioning, so I'm not sure which to believe. For a total of nearly $1,000 -$735 for boarding, plus $250 in vet bills (so far), and not to mention the healing process for our dog- I do not feel comfortable recommending their services at this time. read more

I was referred to this facility by a local B&B proprietor, and not having a good sense of the area signed my dog up for a 1 night stay at Hickory Hill. I was a little tentative to book this facility when I called because they have limited weekend check-in/check-out. I had to have Hugo on site no later than noon on Saturday, but since they don't offer pickup until Sunday afternoon until 3:00PM they charge a full 2nd day of boarding. Yes, they did communicate this up front but in my opinion it's extremely poor customer service and price gouging. When I dropped Hugo off the female owner was quite cold and all business. She didn't even bother to greet Hugo before putting him directly into the Kennel facility. Also, they don't give the dogs play time unless you pay an extra $4.00. Upon pickup, the husband was manning the desk. I told him that I was picking up Hugo and he curtly replied that it would be $42.00 cash or check. No comment about Hugo and his well being during the stay. My husband and I travel quite extensively throughout New England and we often board Hugo during our weekend travels. This is by far the worst experience I have had EVER at a boarding facility. The only reason I didn't leave 1 star is because Hugo was not injured during the stay. read more

I have been bringing our three dogs to Hickory Hill for several years for Grooming and Pet Care and I (and they) couldn't be happier with the care given by Jackie and Duncan. You should consider Hickory Hill if you want to have quality care and accommodations provided for your pets (they board cats too), the comment that there is anything shady about drop off and pick up is absurd, their hours are clearly posted (including at the property) so people need to pay attention to a businesses rules rather than make snide comments. read more

We have been taking our dog to have her nails clipped there for years. All of a sudden they no longer are cutting toenails. I was surprised to say the least. I guess if you're not getting a complete grooming they can't be bothered with you. For two minutes worth of work it was an easy $20.00 for them. We never felt like our dog was "good enough" after all she is a rescue. read more

We have been sending our girl Gali to HH for years now. Jackie and Duncan really know and understand dogs. Gali is very picky and HH is her favorite place to go. It's clean, safe, welcoming and accommodating. Now our puppy Charlie joins Gali and it's just great having a place where we can drop off our pups when we go away and know that they are in good hands. I have been using grooming services on a monthly basis for almost six years. I think they are terrific professionals. No complaints whatsoever from me. I recommend them. For those customers who complain, they are aware of the terms of boarding before they sign up. It's too bad that they are unhappy with the service but use it anyway and feel that it is appropriate to give a bad rating. read more

Their rates are not out of the ordinary. Their times are TERRIBLE! Very sketchy and there is no picking up or dropping off on national holidays (isn't this when most people try to get away or return?). And if you pick up outside regular business hours (which as I said are not accommodating hours at all) then it is a $50.00 extra fee....that's right $50.00. NOT FOR ME. read more

I have never had anything but a good experience at Hickory Hill. It is true that one has to pay for the extras, but in my vast experience with kennels throughout New England and out west, all such extras are paid for in one way or another. My dogs LOVE Hickory Hill and both the owners have been polite and kind to me and my animals. My dogs have stayed there nearly every summer for two weeks and every Christmas holiday. They come back happy and well cared for. My big dog gets groomed every 4 months and they always ask how long or short I want the cut. I have found them to be professional and courteous and always busy with customers. I will continue to take my pets there as long as I live in the area. read more
