My Frenchie, Elmer Reed, suffered loss of hind quarters, he is extremely large for a Frenchie and the first set of wheels I purchased...he literally blew out of, so with the correct measurements from Beacon Vet Amy, we fitted him with Eddie's Wheels...he took to them in about 5 seconds...smile. It has been 5 years now, threads a bit worn from all the walking, added some fuzzy cushiness for rubbing, but recently a welded joint failed...might have been from bump bump bump up and down back steps to dog run. These wheels are literally our life line to a somewhat normal routine. I contacted EW for advise...they advised me that that their welds were guaranteed, so they would replace them. What!!!??? As a result, Leslie said the pup isn't a good candidate for wheels. She gave helpful, informative, and honest feedback and I really appreciate it. This place came highly recommended from more than one rehab center. Apparently, they make high-quality, custom-made wheels for any size dog -unlike the ones that come from China. We drove 6 hours to Eddie's last year to have our dog with scoliosis fitted for a custom wheelchair. He's a dane, but a dwarf at 70lbs. He also has severe scoliosis, but Eddie's has made carts for dogs with scoliosis before. We made an appointment for 3 weeks later to make the 12 hour round trip drive again. This time they advised us to book pet friendly hotels, so we did. Fast forward to 2 days before our scheduled appointment, and they cancelled on us last minute. We could not get any of the funds back for booked hotels. Then, over a month later, Eddie's sends me an email that they can't make a cart for My dog because it would "defy the laws of physics". They did refund me, but I will never see the $200 in booked hotels, and I will never forget the false hope that they gave me. It would have been fine if they had told us on the spot when they met my dog or a day or two later that a cart was not possible. They also could have offered to make a stander instead. We would have been happy with either of those things. Instead, Eddie's left me in tears. Their customer service is terrible, and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

About 2 years ago, my German Shepherd Ziggy's hips started to give out. He's an old guy (10 years at the time) and we kind of expected it sooner or later. So we were faced with a really tough decision because we really wanted him to have a good quality of life. Thing is, Ziggy has a strong spirit - it was his body that wasn't cooperating. I siggest really doing your research. Eddies wheels has really good marketing and website which can make them look like a good company. I almost ordered a cart with thrm, but i found the owner who takes orders to be a very unhelpful person and they do not allow for any types of returns or adjustments after cart is made. I needed a front wheeled cart for a very difficult unusual injury where even the vet could not easily see how the cart would work out for my dog . The front wheel cart I received was far too short, and would have been unusable if I did not have metal fabricator friends. They added 5 inches to make it work. My vet and I measured, per their instructions. My girl still has both front legs, they are collapsing and need to not touch the ground. We included an additional measurement of leg length while not touching, and I made sure to point out that it was important. Eddie's ignored this measurement and when the cart arrived, her front legs were completely weight bearing. They insisted I was not adjusting the harness correctly. They advised me I could adjust the harness until it was flat. This creates an unsafe and dangerous situation where a dog could have further injury by not being supported properly. Just out of curiosity, I did adjust the harness until it was flat. The cart was still too short. From this point, they stopped answering my emails. I would have a useless $600 wheelchair if I did not have metal worker friends that were able to make it right. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

The worst dog cart company in the business. They sent a cart that not only did not fit correctly (after we purchased special measuring tools which they demanded we get in order to get a perfect fit), but badly hurt our medium sized dog. We pinpointed exactly what was incorrectly built--horrible design--and they refused to refund anything. They blamed us, after they put us through exhaustive work to make sure the fit was correct. We spent literally nearly a hundred hours on this entire project, and ended up buying very strong, humane slings to help our poor dog walk and go to the bathroom, as we have been permanently scared off dog carts in general. We are both vet techs and have extensive experience in the pet care and veterinary field. Those photos posted below hide what they do to your dog, underneath all that fur and behind all that grass. We have never been treated so badly by ANY vendor/business. The Eddie's Wheels Cart is basically a torture device for animals, and they will blame you or your dog for their inept design. They're so incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, I wouldn't consider any other supplier for my pets' needs. They take as much time as needed to make sure they get a perfect fit for your animal, and they anticipate those needs as your animal matures, making sure that you don't end up spending more than you need to. I had the privilege of touring their entire facility while I was there, and I was really impressed with their production process. Very disappointing.I agree with a previous reviewer. We did very careful measuring of my German Shepherd Dog only to find that the cart was way too narrow for her to fit comfortably. When I called, was told our measurements were faulty and GSDs had a lot of fur!! Also front yoke was at a bad angle and could not be adjusted. These companies feel once they get your money, you are on your own. I was told I could purchase another ($800!) For all the companies-not just Eddie's Wheels. Why can't someone design a cart that 1 person can easily get an 85lb. dog into? Videos make it look easy-reality (unless you are a weight lifter) not so much. read more

Rating Eddie's Wheels: 2/5. Pros: 1) The wheel cart is made of quality aluminum and the large wheels roll easily on both pavement and grass. 2) The staff is quick to respond to your email. Cons: 1) The website has sketches showing how to measure the animal's body that are misleading. 2) The video shows taking measurements that are not parallel to the ground that may lead to inaccurate measurements. 3) Because of the remote location of the manufacturing operation, UPS charges additional fuel fees. 4) Questions asked of the company are answered selectively. I noticed that the website has been updated as of 12/1/2015. One of the areas that caused me concern has been changed. EW manufactures a sturdy aluminum wheel cart for dogs. My 15 yr old dog had weakness in the hind legs, (Degenerative Myelopathy). EW was suggested by my Vet. I gathered measurements, using my professional metal caliper, following the diagram of the dog showing arrows within the body of the animal pointing to the outer edge of the body shape. It did not show arrows pointing to lines a loose distance from the shape of the body. My measurements were so far off target that the first cart pinched my dogs hind muscles when I tried to insert him. Through e-mail, I asked numerous questions of EW. They were selective in answering my questions, ignoring the request for information how to sell my unused cart through their web site. EW asked if they could issue a return pick-up for the first cart and authorization to remake the cart with new measurements. They advised that costs including additional shipping costs would be billed at the completion of the second order. They did not address any of my questions about posting my un-used cart on their site. Being a wise shopper, I asked if there could be any discount offered since I would be sending the first wheel cart back in the original packaging and suggested that it could be reused again to ship the second wheel cart. EW quickly and clearly indicated that no discount could be offered. I authorized a second cart (unsling) parts from the first cart). I stated that I wanted the removed parts sent to me with the second cart. EW staff stated that they could not send the removed parts with the new cart because of possible damage from loose parts in the packaging. They stated that I would not need these parts. I replied that I wanted the removed parts, and that an additional package would be okay if the parts could not be shipped with the second cart. When the second cart arrived, the removed parts were not within the package. I contacted EW and was told that they thought that I would not want to spend extra on the shipping of a second package and that they had destroyed the parts and sent them to recycling. I was disappointed that they decided this for me. My recommendation to others considering this company is to go directly to the company office for accurate animal measurements. For a future cart, I would make the trip, allowing their staff to measure the animal; and I would stay in the area for a first fitting before returning home. (I am not sure if EW will do a fitting of the saddle prior to the completion of the cart. A saddle fitting would be helpful for out of town customers who want to avoid the need for a remake and additional shipping cost. I would have enjoyed a week in the mountains pampering myself. UPS and Eddie's Wheels earned their wages; I lost my self-confidence. In summary, I like the quality of the product I purchased. I was disappointed with the clarity of the information on the web site. I caution others to prepare for expensive cart re-makes and additional shipping costs that equal more than the value of the cart itself. My dog Grace has been a rear limb tripod for 14 years, all of her life. Most of her life her disability has not impacted a thing. She has helped me train over 500 humans in pet first aid as my demo dog. As she has aged, arthritis and a carpal valgus on a front limb, as well as subungal squamous cell carcinoma (we amputated) in her strongest front limb really started to hold her back (note not stop her). Additionally we began seeing signs of myelopathy through stroke or seizure episodes. When she went carpal valgus we bought the top of the line brace. After having the toe amputated, we realized it was time to pull out the big guns, time for her own Eddies Wheels. Having worked in the pet industry for over a decade, and having worked closely with a wide range of disabled pets and tools to support them, the only one worth our time was EW. A company like EW stays overbooked 100% of the time, so we were persistent. We first tried to reach out via their contact form to secure a fitting. When that didn't produce a quick result we called. I was surprised to hear weekends were only booked two weeks out but just out of curiosity we asked about weekdays. We were able to secure an afternoon appointment for four days later on a Friday. We drove the 9 hours, stayed at the recommended Red Roof Inn (bring rugs, or booties, hardwood floors there only so dogs will slip), arrived an hour early for our 2PM appointment and were greeted like royalty. Leslie and Finch sat with us while the team, who clearly know their stuff and care deeply about their work, launched into action. Surprisingly, they had a used cart (formerly Arizona's) on hand that would fit Grace and I had to exit the building for a moment to pull myself together because we weren't expecting to be able to drive away the same day with her wheels. They took measurements, made adjustments, the team downstairs got right to work and while they did, Leslie very generously spent time sitting and talking with me and Grace about all manner of things - from chiropractic to lift devices, old friends in the industry who were pioneers like Dr. Danoff. While its possible to order online and I have the utmost faith this incredible business and team will do all they can to support and deliver for anyone in the world, when it comes to my Grace, only first hand with the best would do. The EW team continue to work with me and my vet as we retrain Grace's mind and body to use the cart (14 solid years of hop/lope have left a rigid mark on her mind and body). Monday we have our first acupuncture and herbal med appointment, and later this month we'll also engage a Physical Therapist to help me navigate what I am seeing and how to best support Grace's transition. Eddie himself even came out towards the end and gave Grace's new wheels his blessing. Our 15 year old Golden Retriever, Petrice, had lost most of the use of her hind quarters due to either degenerative myopathy, arthritis or likely a combination of the two. This happened rather quickly over a period of about a week and a half. We of course took her to the vet and upon our insistence, she also tested her for Lyme Disease and since it came back positive, we gave Petrice a full course of antibiotics to rid her of this bacterial infection. (If your dog has sore joints, always check for Lyme!) The immediate need was to keep her ambulatory and carrying a 65 pound dog with a mind of her own was not working. Our first foray toward a resolution was an eBay purchase of a Huggiecart, which basically had the correct structure, but wasn't at all sturdy. It wobbled and there was nothing to stop the cart from rolling backward out from underneath her. Because of good reviews, reasonable pricing and substantial advertising, we next went with Walkin' Wheels. While the quick delivery, easy assembly and super solid construction were all definite pluses, Petrice had trouble on the slightest of inclined surfaces. At her advanced age she is not exceptionally strong on her forelegs. Because of the soft body harness, helping her meant pushing her downward and forward from behind to provide counterbalance and locomotion. Also, when we made our purchase, there was no mention of the need for protective boots to keep her nails from scraping through to their quicks and bloodying her feet. This happened with our first outing. Then we heard about Eddie's Wheels and made a call to them. They immediately understood the engineering issues and assured us they could help. Their decades of experience with both hind and frontal deficiencies shows in their wheelchairs. Eddie himself was on hand when we visited their Shelburne Falls workshop. Having been a mechanical engineer for his entire adult life, he is uniquely qualified to address all the nuances of form fitting function. Eddie's outgoing and upbeat wife, Leslie, was on hand to help us with a custom fit for our girl. When we transferred Petrice from the Walkin' Wheels to Eddie's gig, her back relaxed noticeably, taking her from a hunched (and probably uncomfortable) stance to a flat topline. Her hips did not sway in Eddie's version as they did in the Walkin' Wheels, again reducing pain in the problematic pelvic area with this added stability. Her rear legs did not slip backwards when she was at a stop, but were safely angled underneath her with no effort on her part. Best of all, her scraping feet became engaged and she started to use them again to reestablish her natural gait. This is not to say she put weight on her hind, she just instinctively used her back legs and keeping them in motion helps with circulation and slows further degeneration. Eddie's shop also carries boots on the premises which they recommended right from the get go knowing an animal's tendency to drag or 'knuckle' the paws when tired. We are so happy to have found this empathetic team of craftsmen. While their carts are not inexpensive, you really do get every penny's worth. (In some cases, they are able to retrofit a used cart that folks have donated back to them.) As a customer, one gets the sense that they're not in it for the money but for the sheer pleasure of seeing a dog (or rabbit or alpaca!) regain its mobility and joie de vivre! Altogether I would have to say that our experience was so positive, it isn't an overstatement to say it was life affirming. Nothing is impossible with love and commitment. My Pickles (a paralyzed dachshund) LOVES her new cart. I was reluctant to try a cart again since I had purchased 2 from other manufacturers. One was poorly designed and kept tipping over, the other was too heavy and she hated it. I am so glad I tried again and purchased one from Eddie's Wheels. When I ordered the cart they helped me measure her carefully. As a result, the cart fit perfectly. In addition, it's well engineered, balanced and light. When I placed Pickles the cart, she hesitated and then took off running. Once outside we went for our usual walk (previously she would be in a baby stroller) and she ran the whole way out of pure joy. She is an older gal, but still has a lot of life in her. Two of my dogs have had Eddie's carts. One, my arthritic, 80 lb. lab mix, Shadow, lived at least an additional two years because he could get around with less stress. He took a walk around the block in it the day before he died back in '05. Shortly after, I got Serrie. She tore her canine cruciate ligament a year later. Leslie told me that if she were kept in the cart for 6 months the ligament would just heal--and the cart being about 1/4 of the cost of an operation made it a no-brainer. That knee healed and then she tore the other one a year later. Now, she's 14 and she hasn't used the cart since '08, but we're heading back up to Eddie's to have it counterbalanced since she's now arthritic in her back. All that being said, one memory always comes back when I think of a dog in a cart. I was walking Shadow down the street in the city where I live, and a van pulled over towards the curb. It seemed like it was getting a bit close, so I glanced at it, and realized it was a transportation van for the handicapped. There were four or five people in wheelchairs anchored in the back, yelling--cheering, I realized, because they saw Shadow in his Eddie's Wheels cart. We all waved at each other and the van drove on, but it was an incredibly beautiful experience. When it comes to my animals, money is not usually spared. I knew my pug was in rough shape when his back legs became weaker. We looked around for a wheel chair for him and our vet recommended Eddie's Wheels. The cost of the cart itself was reasonable because it's my average vet bill. My main reason for choosing Eddie's Wheels was the fact that they are custom made for each dog/animal, made in America, and they have been doing it for 20+ years so they know what they're doing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My dog Romeo did get a wheel chair from them last November. The whole process and experience was great. We stayed over night in the Cavalier Cottage which I would also recommend for those traveling from out of town. Shelburne Falls is a really cute New England town. My pug Romeo is starting to have weakness in his front paws so we've had to go back to Eddie's Wheels for an upgrade. After we got there and his chair was upgraded, I realized he was weaker than I thought, so we'll be going back to get the front wheels added within the month. I would not go anywhere else for this and would recommend them to anyone whose animal needed a cart or wheelchair. DON'T DO IT....Don't get ripped off like I did. Ordered the cart for my dachshund and had all the measurements done by a veterinarian along with pictures. I also took pictures when Leslie questioned the measurements I sent her. The cart to me is a flimsy piece of garbage that is going just there THE GARBAGE. The cart does not conform to the dog at all. It is wobbly and non-supportive. I have had the cart a couple of weeks and the dog will not use it. Something has to be wrong with the fit if the dog is not responding. I have spoken with Leslie more than once and she says "It's a perfect fit." With the company not being local for the correct adjustments, it makes it quite difficult to know if it is "the perfect fit." I have made adjustments to the cart as instructed and still no luck. A family-owned company should stand behind their workmanship and their product. I cannot tell you how upset I am about this transaction with Eddies Wheels. I am back to square one, but without my $500 that they ripped me off of. Eddies' Wheels should not only be behind getting the almighty dollar but also getting positive customer feedback. Eddies Wheels is the ONLY place you should go for pet mobility services. Don't be fooled by other lesser companies on the internet who claim that they can send you a cart that will fit your pet properly. It's simply not true. You may find less expensive options, but you get what you pay for and you will not be happy. Your pet will not be safe and comfortable. I purchased a cart on Amazon and spent four hours putting it together only to find that it didn't even come close to fitting my dog (despite promises to the contrary). One size does not fit all. If you want a cart that fits, don't waste your time. When I arrived at Eddie's, they immediately and carefully assessed my dogs needs. Leslie and Eddie are the consummate professionals. They are experts at what they do. They built a cart for us that was easy to use and the construction was light years better than cheaper versions. They left no stone unturned and made important adjustments that made all the difference to his safety and comfort. They also gave me information about how we could adjust the cart as our dog's needs became greater. In a nut shell, they gave my 14 year old best friend and constant companion a new lease on life when I thought we had exhausted all the options. He lost all use of his back legs and has been diagnosed with DM, essentially the canine form of ALS. I am so thankful for their efforts and going above and beyond to make our dog comfortable, I drove home smiling the whole way. Btw, this is the first review that I have even written online. This wheelchair is just a bad design. We spent 370 dollars on a wheelchair that ran over my dogs feet. My husband has an undergraduate in engineering and he even agrees it is poorly designed. The base needs to be wider to allow stability. My doxie ran over his feet over and over again and then refused to use it. Because we can't just pay another 400 dollars for a different one the wheelchair has gone unused since my dogs back surgery. Complete and utter waste and the arrogance of these people "we are the best" will I have to say that they are not the best.The women was rude and had no understanding of our needs.
