    Hog Mac N Cheese

I love trying out new places. Finally back in the area and decided to give this place a chance. I had heard good things about it, so was excited to try it out! For our starters, we had the pulled pork nachos! We shared it among three people, which we could have probably ordered a second one as it wasn't that large of a portion, however, it did leave us hungry which was good since we were about to have a big meal! I had the Hog Mac n Cheese. If you know me, you know that I am a Mac N Cheese lover, so for me to say that this was good Mac n Cheese, I do honestly mean that! I would most definitely order it again! Pro tip: the Mac N Cheese comes with half of a pretzel (should be a whole in my opinion) but you should definitely dip it into your Mac n Cheese! Yum!! I had also ordered the mango and passion fruit tea as well. I was surprised to find that there were bits of fruit in it. It was refreshing and went well with a good old American meal! Would highly recommend coming to this place! But if you think it might be busy, do book ahead so you don't have to wait!

Was surprised to find this Texas smokehouse while visiting England, but it was a very nice establishment. Great staff, good music, good food. You can smell the BBQ from the road Food was very good although was not impressed with the grilled prawns. Everything else was excellent. Even my mother in laws vegan option, which was surprising to find at a bbq place.

We shared the smokehouse platter for two (between three), with a side of mac cheese and creamed corn. O M G. It was huge. And delicious. The brisket was the best. Along with the sauce. The sausage was my next favourite. But it was all delicious. I'd go back in a heartbeat. And the grape soda was soooo good. And one of the best mac cheeses I've had.

While vistiing my best friend in Chester, I decided to choose here to soak up the wine. On entering , this place was packed, luckily there was only a 30 minute wait for a table. Sidling up to the bar the drinks menu was reasonably priced on the cocktail front. The barman was not cheerful but we ordered a m & m milkshake and a mojito.. both were really tasty for the price ( not more than a fiver!) It was not long before we were guided to our table. Which consisted of a red leather american style booth and a packet of complimentary popcorn . A waitress with a newbie waitress came over and asked if we wanted her to go through the menu and explained she was training the other waitress. Ethusiastically she talked through it all and you could tell she had revised the menu. The choice was immense with customisable items from salads, burgers, ribs , hotdogs, wings, nachos & meat platters.. To begin we selected the pulled pork nachos to share for £6, we almost went for the platter but my friend advised it was huge. Instead we ordered these sausages with burnt ends. Not long afterwards the nachos arrived with the same friendly service who whipped our empties away. The portion of pork was really generous on the nachos and was so succulent and smoked to perfection. I was so glad we opted to share one! Next came the mains.. once again the portion was HUGE I wish I had opted to share this one too! I ended up leaving the tasty fries, salald and half of the chunk of bread and one sausage,, it was just too much! the burnt ends were in yummy bbq sauce and was divine. The sausage was good, when I bit in it I think it was cheese that came out of it?? Overall I had heard mixed reviews about this place but I honestly think, coming from Manchester, the portions are excellent value for money and everything was tasty and the waitresses were perfect. Apparently you can even sit outside and they will give you blankets :) Highly recommend this place!

    Apparently we went 'big'

So I'm in a bit of a 'discussion' with my house mates on this place. One may feel it's his new mecca for BBQ. The other feels it's great, but due to it being in Chester and us living in Manchester it won't become a regular haunt. Me... I feel it's the same quality as Reds True BBQ in Manchester city centre, this caused some intake of air through clenched teeth by the above two mentioned attendees who have now decided I am a heathen and must never speak of BBQ again :) I am a big fan of Reds True, sooo the above was not negative I did enjoy Hickory's very much, it's good american style BBQ, and we apparently went 'BIG' according to the waitress. Walking up to this place I really like how it looks, the building is an unusual shape refreshing from I suppose being a city boy surrounded by reasonably tall buildings. but I'm guessing you don't care about my walking into a dreamland, purely what I put in my face in dreamland. Between three of us we go The Cubanos - wafer thin ham, stringy cheese, pickles & mustard served on a toasted buttered sub... deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious Shrimp Po-Boy - Ragin' Cajun fried shrimp with seafood sauce... Tasty But Toby you said you went big, you've just talked about two regular sized sandwiches They sandwiches were sides, to... Smokehouse Platter - Baby back ribs, hot links, jumbo beef rib, kansas style ribs, beef brisket, BBQ pulled pork, fries BBQ Pit beans with Pork n beef rib tips Burnt Ends - chunks of smoked beef brisket in crispy cajun rub Oh and I nearly forgot the Sandwiches came with Fries as well The Waitress did point out we'd ordered a lot of food and that the platter though advertised for 2 people she'd seen 3 people struggle with it, so with all the side orders we'd gone big. We simply replied 'we're hungry' and so it began. We demolished everything set before us and we didn't come away hungry, it was a great start to a day of drinking around Chester. It was all tasty, it was all great. Burnt ends weren't what I thought they were going to be, but they were delicious and need to become a bar snack across the land NOW. I did really enjoy Hickory's and if you're in Chester it's an utter must. I think I'm happy enough with Reds True BBQ being in my home town though to not feel the need to make a regular homage to Hickorys... but I will definitely be back

Hickory's has a great location, and the outside seats are best. The burgers are tasty, but the Mac-n-cheese is really the main event. Good for groups and dependable food.

    Delicious grape soda !!!

Lovely American style food! Never disappoint every time I go here. From the burgers to the ribs everything is delicious & the daily deals you can't go wrong ! The cocktails are delicious, if you don't drink a grape soda is a must! Great location right next to the riverside, you can sit outside or inside - heaters outside and they provide a blanket if needed.

Food is cooked over a charcoal grill and boy can you taste and smell it not to mention the fact they cook it in front of you. Meat is locally sourced and all the food tastes great. On this occasion I went for a mixed grill, 2 lamb chops, a kofta kebab, and 4 boned chicken wings, served with rice, a side salad and warmed bread. Prices are very reasonable I paid about £15 for the meal and boy did it fill me up. In addition to that the staff are great, very polite and well organised. The only negative things I have to say are that the salad was badly dressed very acidic and not much balance to the dressing. I would also prefer a better beer choice but that's just me being pedantic.

Everything came with white rice and salad. The portions were enormous. Two of us boxed up our leftovers to take home. The guys working there are friendly and the service was spot on. As a rule, any restaurant that you walk into which has kitchen roll on the tables as standard, is…read morelikely to show you a good time. Smokies has two venues, one in Darwen and one in Chorley. As Chorley is nearer to me, we decided to try this one. I like that when you walk in, it already has a warm atmosphere, created by varying lighting, high ceilings, and lots of wood in the decor and furniture. In fact later in the evening, one of the owners would tell me that she loves upcycling, and the wood from the bar came from a Scottish distillery, and the tables throughout were made from old casks from the same distillery, simply sanded and oiled, and that what I thought was a table number on our table was in fact one of the original barrel numbers! I love a bit of provenance! I was surprised to find that the restaurant goes further back into another room, and even has another floor with even more seating for diners! As we entered we were welcomed warmly by who I assume is one of the owners (mentioned above). She checked for our booking and pointed us to our table. Another member of staff brought our menus and explained about the specials menu, and specials on the chalkboards throughout the restaurant. The menu is a vegan's nightmare and a carnivore's wet dream! Delicious meaty starters and mains, a section dedicated to meat from the smoker, and even a couple of sharing platters all described in a way to make your mouth water before you get chance to order. This is a proper southern States style bbq joint, their mantra is "real food, real smoke, real slow", and despite that very much being accurate given their quality offerings, the prices are incredibly decent. We decided on the "couples platter" which was beef brisket, pulled pork, half a rack of ribs, chicken wings, home-made sausage, fries, coleslaw and beans... and it was just £20! In fact including the starter and drinks, the whole bill came to less than £35! CRAZY! So before our platter main, we ordered some nachos as a starter. You know what nachos as a starter tends to look like if you go somewhere like Chiquito etc... about 6 doritos with a blob of melted coagulation-dried cheese and some jalapenos on top. We... weren't expecting what we got from Smokies! We got a huge tray full of nachos, covered in nacho cheese sauce, freshly made guacamole, pineapple salsa, (you also get jalapenos, but we asked for them without) with side pots of guacamole and sour cream. It made me swear when it arrived. They were miles beyond the usual doritos-nachos starter you usually get. They were fresh, with perfect crunch, the salsa was fruity and fresh, the cheese was excellent, and it was incredibly moreish. We found ourselves even mopping up the tiny bits at the end with our fingers... thank god for that kitchen roll and wet wipes! Our main platter arrives just after a side portion of fries each. I ordered plain with pitmaster's salt, and my partner ordered cheeseburger fries from the specials menu, which was the same fries but with bits of burger meat, cheese, and chipotle relish! They came with really lovely fresh coleslaw, and what he says as some of the best beans he's ever had... beans with brisket mixed in! HEAVEN! The fries themselves were hot, crisp, and perfectly seasoned. Absolutely perfect. Then just as they arrived, we were brought out our platter! The owner I mentioned earlier then came over to us and explained to us fully about our platter, what meats were what, how the meats were prepared, down to information about the pink smoke ring on the brisket. It's really nice to see that amount of passion and enthusiasm go into food! This platter was excellent. The sausage was flavourful with a spice which didn't get you at first, but which snuck up behind you and slapped you in the fact afterwards! The chicken wings were so tender that you could suck the meat off the bones. The pulled pork was absolutely perfect, and the brisket was so tender that I swear it literally melted in my mouth. This is the best brisket I've had! Even the pickled cucumber provided was pickled by them in brine using the flavours from the smoker, and was described as a 'palate cleanser' as it was fresh and tangy. Really good! I could imagine it on a burger quite easily! There were also their own blend of sauces on each table comprising of a sweet BBQ sauce, American style mustard, and Louisiana style hot sauce. I imagine they were lovely, but as the meat itself was so amazing as it was provided, I really didn't get chance to try them as they weren't needed! Maybe next time! At the point I was about to try the ribs when the chef/pit-master came into the dining area, and was even introduced to us. When we talked to him about the quality of our meal, his enthusiasm and passion for the real deal of southern BBQ was evident, from how he does it and his smokers, to the difference between competition cooking and regular cooking. It was genuinely fascinating to hear, and as I said, a real

The location is fairly small, it sadly doesn't have a lift meaning if you can't handle stairs there is only one low table on the ground floor, as most of it is high bar-style seating, to make matters worse this table is more like an outdoor bench as the bench-style backless seating can't be moved, which would make it hard if someone requires back-support or perhaps is a wheelchair user meaning it makes it hard to get to the table. I sat downstairs, they had no problem reserving the table for me which was reserved well in advance to make sure I got a table with a large stand on the table however it was really unpleasant being on the lower floor, I felt forgotten about and while the staff were friendly, it was frustrating having to feel like I had to go to the main bar to order and then to pay, to make matters worse I wasn't given a final bill which meant I was originally overcharged when trying to pay at the bar, luckily I'd noticed the price seemed a little high as they didn't knock my 40% off, despite it is an ongoing promotion at all Botanist locations (I've never had this problem before), if you prebook - now I know mistakes can happen but the fact I wasn't given my final bill/receipt makes me wonder if I was overcharged for anything else. I ordered my regular Botanist order, the Chicken and Chorizo kebab, again unlike every other location the staff didn't offer to pour the garlic butter on for me, now I have no problem doing it myself but I'm confused why the staff didn't offer when they offer at every other location. The chorizo I found to be chewy and virtually inedible, the onions were also bland and tasted raw, while I would have also liked a little bit more chicken. Not including the discount, I certainly don't think the service in general or the food quality warranted anywhere near the price and I was only happy to pay it due to the discount (after it was applied of course), while the decor is okay it also isn't unique and innovative if you'd have told me this wasn't a Botanist restauraunt even though it had multiple signs and the same menu, I probably would have believed you. 2* - A slightly generous rating given the circumstances but as the chicken was good quality and it is a nice place for drinks, while it certainly isn't for food in general.

If you have not been to a Brazillian BBQ before, basically they come round with different meats on sticks and they carve a slice for you at the table. For lunch, there were 7 different types of meat (I think) which included a couple different beef cuts, sausage, gammon and lamb. Previous visits to Fazenda, my favourite has been the gammon. However, my last visit is didn't meet the very high expectation from that first time having it. Its still good but not "incredible". Actually, if I am honest, at Picanha it seemed to be lacking a bit of flavour. Not often complain about it but it was lacking some salt - which you expect with gammon. The rest of the meats were all good - although some of the cuts were a bit too rare. I don't mind rare meat but I prefer medium-rare (leaning a bit more towards the rare) but some of it was rare. The standout meats, and I have since heard they are a favourite of customers of Picanha (and Fazenda) is the belly pork and the lamb. My last visit to Fazenda and the belly pork was my fav that time. Lovely, juicy, marinated with honey and cinnamon. So overall, good food, nice restaurant and good service.

We called in advance to see whether they could accommodate our friend with a dairy allergy and they couldn't of been more helpful with the suggestions they made. The staff were friendly throughout the whole experience. The only let down for me was that they forgot my milkshake, I waited quite awhile as I know they take longer than most drinks but It was quite apparent they had forgot, it wasn't too big a deal though. If you find yourself looking for somewhere casual to eat in Chester this place is cool and the service was fast.
