We hired Jason Korner when we were finally given the notice that he had a warrant. The original complaint was made in march of 2020 but for some reason still unknown the city of saint louis didn't really make it a point to try to come get my boyfriend even though they knew from march of 2020 his name where he lived, his phone number, where he worked Anyway we hired Jason that November and we felt really good about having him as our attorney. If we only had known the road that lie ahead. Mr. Korner was given the results of the rape kit exam that took place 03/09/2020. The test was a negative for my boyfriends DNA. This only really could mean that although the presence of male DNA was in this biological screening it was a negative to my boyfriend's Mr. KORNER WAITED UNTIL 3 DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST TRIAL TO DO A SINGLE BIT OF WORK ON MY BOYFRIENDS CASE. He ended up contacting the witness we really didn't want and not ever making contact with our witness that had already turned over to him a signed notarized affidavit. He also failed to do a deposition on Any witnesses my boyfriend which we will never really understand. All I do know is that the day of trial he came to my boyfriend under the most deceptive of circumstances acting as though signing over the consensual sex stipulation was just protocol when in fact it was the very thing the prosecution needed to proceed with this case. Why would a defense attorney help the prosecutor..seems like something is not making sense Why would he decide to keep the rape kit results a secret and blow off the results as if they were not relevant The trial ended in 8 to 4 split with the jury. 8 not guilty 4 didn't understand what reasonable doubt was - which technically is not guilty. Because its either guilty or not guilty and at the end of the trial they were not willing to say guilty so wasn't that the end of this nightmare? Well there were a lot of strange things that went on that first trial Mr. Korner allowed the jury to have the sister in law of the prosecutor as one of its jurors and he allowed the prosecutor to walk off with our witness before she got on the stand He literally was writing down question's for the alledged victim as her testimony was given to the prosecutor. Talk about totally unprepaired. So trial number 2 was scheduled for march 2024 and reminiscent to the first trial Mr Korner acted as though this would be a Cake walk but a few days before trial he has us back in his office and once again he has done nothing to prepare for this case. He never made any attempt to find our witnesses and never sent a subpoena to anyone and when it came time to ask the judge for the first time ever in this case he slit my boyfriends threat and acted as if he had been trying all this time to get ahold of witnesses which is a ball face lie because for sure he never ever did. Anything that was investigated in this case was done so by myself but I had limits under the law on what I could investigate because I didn't want to get hit with witness tampering. So come trial day Mr Korner gives a weak ass and blame shifting request to continue to later time in order to get in touch with our witness Mr. KORNER HAD full knowledge of since Dec 2022. We were denied that continuance due to having waited to the very last minute but we had been asking him to file a continuance for 2 months so why would he not do it? Good question So at the end of it all my boyfriend is a registered sex offender for the next 10 years. He is forced to sit every week with men who talk about having sex with little innocent children and has been subjected to questionnaires about when was the last time he thought about having sex with his mother and when the last time he fantasized about having sex with a dead body . My boyfriend was looking at ten years for a crime where literally and I mean literally the only evidence in this case was the testimony of a woman who never kept one detail of her recollection of this alleged assault straight. She told different stories every time she told it. There was not any witness cooperation of any kind not by the dna not by detectives investigation because there never was one. Not by anything but the word of one person And Jason Korner could not get a not guilty for an innocent man. Mr Korner failed to provide adequate legal counsel to my boyfriend. He never did any kind of investigation never deposed anyone except the alleged victim , and did a lousy job deposing her It almost appeared that he was on her side and not my boyfriends He never challenged any of the 50 inconsistent statements the woman made.
