I have played this course 4 or 5 times over the years and I can't wait to come back. You get the feeling of playing a very nice country club at a very reasonable price. The course is very well maintained and very challenging. The surrounding forest is thick and ca gobble up wayward shots. The rough is nasty and beautiful with wildflowers and there's plenty of water. Accuracy is crucial but a decent score can be had. The place was so nice yesterday that we opted to stay for lunch. The restaurant and service were perfect, and overlooking the river and 9th green. read more

Played multiple courses on a Harbor Springs golf trip and this was by far our favorite course. The greens were fast and well maintained. Everyone from the pro shop to our starter Phil gave us genuine hospitality and made sure to educate us about the course. read more

Definitely a hidden gem for upper western Michigan. I would rate the food a 3 - had a T-bone steak, salad and a glass of wine. The steak had quite a bit of grizzle and fat. I would think that being in upper Michigan where all the cows were we would have premium steak, oh well. Salad was good, but the waitress brought the salad and then within 5 minutes brought out the main entree - steak. I was wondering what was taking the salad so long to get to the table - the waitress it was her second day. I don't think that this is Rocket Science though everyone should know to bring the bread and salad out first and then after a while bring out the main course. Had to ask for the bread basket as well. The location, scenery, and atmosphere deserves 5 stars but because of the food and the service from the waitress I am giving this restaurant, golf and casting club 3 stars. While sitting and enjoying the view it is very likely that you will see wild animals, i.e., deer, raccoons, etc. Enjoy and I definitely will go back there if I am able to return to this area in beautiful upper/western Michigan - in Brutus - sort of like Popeye!!! read more

The atmosphere at this beautiful 19th hole gets a five. If I had a better steak, I would have rated Hidden River Golf & Casting Club four stars. Our server was new... it was her second day. She didn't bring the salad until a few minutes before our main entree. I understand what it's like being new, so I cut her some slack on that. The problem was that as pricey as it was I was hoping to have a tender, delicious steak. Not so. I've never seen so much grissle. Probably among one of the worst steaks I was ever served. It sure was beautiful there, though. I wouldn't mind going back just for a salad and the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the landscaping and stream. I uploaded a picture and I think you'll agree that this place is unique. But take my advice and don't order steak. read more

Place was all time!! Great views of the river and today the golf course. From the drinks to the food you can tell everything was locally sourced and made from scratch. I would recommend the fish over the beef there and do yourself a favor and try to homemade ice cream. Our services was great and the chef was nice enough to come out and great the guest. I cannot get enough of this place! Went last week and had to come back this week. The food, the service, the ambiance is all exceptional. I love sitting overlooking the river! The menu is everything you would want at a great up north restaurant. The planked white fish is the real winner here! The presentation is amazing and the taste is just as great. I personally ordered the king crab and Wow what a treat and what a value! I got a huge claw and a huge leg that was cooked To perfection for $36!! The drinks are amazing and a great value! I love the fact that they feature local products. People say you can't have your cake and eat it too, but I beg to differ. This place has the best desert I have ever had, we sampled a few and were blown away! The homemade ice cream the best ice cream I have ever had! To top it all off the staff is outstanding. So friendly, knowledgeable, and caring it made my experiences over the top. The chef and manager take the time to personally check on you and ask about your experience! The course was beautiful. However, the golf rangers were some of the rudest people we've ever encountered in multiple years of an annual golf outing. They were rude enough that this warrants a one star review. We had golfers for the most part in the high 80's-low 90's in scoring (2/3), and 1/3 that were scratch golfers. Had a couple twoeome grouos in front of us. The rangers thought our 4 groups of 4 should be keeping up with a twoesome. They forced us to skip 3 holes to "catch up", which totally screwed the round. More so, the first group behind our 4 grouos couldn't keep up with our LAST group. So, the rangers ruined a beautiful course. Won't be back, and I will tell all of my golf buddies there are courses just a nice, with nicer and more appreciative staff. The cart/bag staff (young man), he was nice, polite, and worked his but off. He should find a better employer. He deserves it. read more

We arrived with a reservation and had to wait for our table. We were lead to the table but it was dirty. When seated, the table was wet and we had to ask twice for menus. 60 min after arrival, we finally got our drinks. An hour later, we got salads. Long wait but good food and great service by our waitress. Seriously understaffed and very stressed out staff that tried hard to make us happy. read more

We've been going to the Rainbow Room every summer for years. Hidden River is a gorgeous course, with spectacular views from the dining room and adjacent patio. A recent visit was no exception, with the sun at the treetops, fisherman in the Maple River casting their lines and beautiful early summer weather. When we entered the restaurant, we were promptly seated and our wait staff appeared. We noticed a small wedding party in the extra room when we arrived (maybe 30-40 people), they looked like they were having a nice event. It was curious to see wait staff RUNNING through what is a normally a calm, upscale restaurant, and we initially wrote that off to a busy start to the evening. However, it continued throughout our long, never ending dinner. In addition, the air conditioning was so cold we used menus to block the vents (almost all the tables were doing this). We ordered a bottle of wine, it arrived about 15 minutes later. Salads took another 30 minutes, and bread another 15 minutes on top of that. An hour after that, dinner arrived, and was mostly cold when delivered. The wait staff continued to run... After dinner, we asked for boxes for our extra food and a check. We watched the waitress bus tables and deliver other checks, not ours. We had to go to her to get the check. A three hour dinner! Fortunately, the company was great and the view was wonderful as usual. We had other friends at a nearby table, they were also dissatisfied with their service. We watched club members leave in disgust, without getting their meals -- some were asking for refunds/discounts. I'm sure the wait staff lost some weight Saturday night. What a shame a manager was not available to wander around and take care of some of the loose ends -- that would have made a huge difference. For the price and service, we won't return. For the view and a drink on the deck, we will. read more

You usually don't equate good restaurants with golf courses but the Hidden River Golf Club is a hidden gem. Weather permitting, sit outside on the patio which overlooks the river down below. My top choice is the Parmesan crusted white fish which was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The portion was enormous, so bring your appetite. The wine selection was limited but more than adequate. Ditto for the beer options. All in all I really enjoy the ambiance and great food. read more

Tried the Rainbow Room again and it was excellent. Last time was in 2013 and realize it was closed for awhile. The Parmesan encrusted whitefish was great along with other entrees of salmon and chicken piccata. Glad we went back and will be returning. read more
