I knew her from visiting my friends when they were in New Jersey from California to see her and the many siblings. She was a wise and heart centered woman. I wanted to pay my respects. The wake was last night and the funeral today. I was able to attend the large gathering yesterday, but had scheduling conflicts with the funeral service and internment today. Costello-Runyon Funeral Home at Green and Cooper in Iselin, NJ, is in the old neighborhood and was an excellent space for a large family get together to honor and celebrate a remarkable life. Although a small facility, it was appropriately somber and comfortable to accommodate the 50 or so people who attended the viewing. There was enough room for the multitude of photographs and flowers around the room, as well as ample space to speak with everyone throughout the evening while paying homage to the dimming of life force and light we were there to pay tribute to. Toward the end of the gathering, a deacon from the local Roman Catholic Church led us through prayers and commiserations. He was humble and obviously a man gifted at offering condolences while calling us to remember all the good she brought into the world. He reminded all of us that humor was a big part of her life, and calling on that emotion was totally appropriate in these circumstances. So, as the generations spoke of mom, grandma and great grandma, we all laughed and cried remembering her amazing spirit. She had lived a long and meaningful life, and left nothing undone when it was her time. That we could all say as much when our time draws nigh. She consistently referred to my aunt as "the body." I made a miscount as to how many pall bearers had arrived and she made a mocking comment about me to her co-worker. "I guess we forgot how to count!" She is seemingly unfit for this profession. In addition, I was charged $125 for a wooden cross and thank you notes that I never asked, for nor do I want. I was also charged $125.00for gratuities. Again, I was never informed of this until I received a bill. In addition to the $300 fee for 'Dressing, casketing and cosmetology' I was charged $75 for a hairdresser. What a terrible way to take advantage of people at their weakest moments.

I can after buying 2 niches (these are burial spots in a columbarium which is for urns whereas a mausoleum is for caskets), say the staff here are so totally gentle, gracious, fair, and understanding. The immense many emotions which surround the such are complex, but our initial outreach with coordinator Ennio is beyond reproach with his deep personal empathy and big heart for all patrons' human stories. Gina W. the administrator is totally on par with all the many paperwork and regulatory bits which could be a drag but she makes it all aplomb with a kind heart. The property and all its details are so thoughtfully decorated. All maintenance and facilities are so highly done as to instill high confidence. We chose the "Clearview" niches which have a clear view of the ground soutside, as the name implies. The famously beautiful views from the hills of Ridge across the Watchung Mountains towards the south and west are childhood faves for me and lifelong faves for my father so we are so totally comforted that he shall forever look out to the beloved area. It means a lot to us that the staff exhibit the care to make the view happen with perfect beauty daily. Thank you to all the staff for so much compassion and care for our father's resting place. We visit regularly to accompany him and also to enjoy his new surroundings together.
