I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Plinton Curry Funeral Home was deeply disappointing and upsetting that I felt compelled to share. I wouldn't recommend this funeral home based on my family's recent experience. It felt more like a business transaction than a place meant to handle a loved one's final arrangements with love. From the start, they were difficult to reach, reluctant to provide a price list, and overall, the process felt more like a money grab than a service rooted in care. Getting a clear, itemized price list. felt like pulling teeth, despite the FTC's Funeral Rule requiring funeral homes to provide it upon request it was a violation of basic transparency and consumer rights. When I questioned the $12,128 cremation quote with a $6,000 discount due to a family connection to my uncle. Every conversation seemed to circle back to cost, not compassion. Ron Curry set up a Zoom meeting with my family that was supposed to start at 4pm, we waited over 2 hours for him to join, and he never did. After reaching out several times we were told that he was with another family and rescheduled for 8pm.Even then he never joined the Zoom but via his cell phone, when asked if he was going to join the ZOOM he replied, "do you need to see me". They have two locations listed but when I requested the Westfield location I was told that location is only to prepare not for reviewing. Mr. Curry condescendingly called me "sweetheart" .....letting me know they are very expensive and cost more than other funeral homes in the Newark area (he did mention names, but I won't) that was completely unprofessional and disrespectful during such a vulnerable time. We were left with unanswered questions and some aspects--like how her body was presented--left us deeply disappointed. After sending several more pictures Ron did do some touch-ups to make my aunt look more like her pictures and we were pleased. Stephanie referred to my loved one as "the remains" before changing it to the body never by name, and never with the respect she deserved. It was upsetting and dehumanizing. The compassion I expected simply wasn't there. My aunt service was scheduled for May 14th, 2025, during the meeting I asked what day she would be cremated and could the family attend....I was informed by Stephanie to attend the cremation would cost $150 per person. I asked what's included with that price because I have attended a few cremation services and NEVER recall paying a fee to attend. Rahim was the only person who showed genuine kindness and professionalism he was the saving grace in an otherwise troubling experience. He went beyond the call of duty by offering to pick up or drop off things to make it easier for the family instead of traveling all the way to the Somerset office. My Aunt's service was May 14,2025 it wasn't until we called to inquired if she had been cremated just so happen, she was cremated on that day. Due to the office only being open from 9am -2pm Monday-Friday and only open on Saturdays if they have a service NOT 24 hours like they advertise I requested; they mail me my aunt's ashes. They used The United States Postal Service Grief is hard enough. Families shouldn't have to feel like they're being taken advantage of in the middle of it. Families deserve better during moments of grief. I sincerely hope this business reflects on how they treat people during such sensitive times. Plinton Curry showed the care and responsiveness that a business of it's caliber should show during a time when a family is grieving their lives one. Their staff prepared my lives one's body perfectly and our lives one looked so natural. They personally drove his body to our lives one's hometown to the final resting place. I miss my loved one but because Plinton Curry made things so easy our family is on the road to moving forward with life because "life goes on". When I arrived for my scheduled appointment with Mr. Ron, I was given their deepest condolences and asked how was my family and I during this time. I was offered something to drink while we discussed the funeral arrangements. The staff was very informative and if they did not have the answers they would get back to me with all details. Plinton funeral home is spotless, clean, organized, give quick responses and acknowledgements. From the tour, to the services offered, the quality in the programs, prayer cards, blankets, fans. I was there yesterday for a funeral of a family member. The funeral home was very nice and did a good job however, I will caution everyone not to buy the flowers they offer through the funeral home website. I ordered a floor basket, paid $75.00 and when I arrived I found a 12" basket with three small plants that I could have gotten from a local supermarket for under $20. it was embarrassing for the price paid. I've used other floral sites and for $75.00 I know what to expect. I called the company and a nice woman on the line said she could offer only a $20 refund. If you're sending flowers please use another service and I urge the funeral home to look for another partnering florist. read more

I just had my mothers' funeral yesterday on 10/4/21. And Plinton Curry funeral home did an excellent job with the handling the service. they went above and beyond to meet and exceed our expectations. They did everything with ease and patience. Down to the end from the limo driver Larry dropping my family off to multiple locations. The casket was gorgeous and the obituary looked soooo very expensive. Even in my grieving stat I still could notice the excellent job at hand. Thank you to Plinton Curry Funeral Home for helping my mother and sisters to give my dad the proper send off he deserved. From the minute I spoke to Ron to tell him about the death of my dad and planning with Orpha the services we knew we were at the right place. They call it customization but I call it extraordinary.They will do all your traditions but then add some of their own which to me and my family made it very special. From the beautiful prayer cards to the beautiful banner made special for my dad we felt like we were part of their family and knew them for years. They provided us with so much comfort and support that we would never of expected and never received from any other funeral home. This was our first and only choice and so glad we walked through that door. My dad was a disabled veteran who served in the US Airforce and at the funeral there was Airforce Cadettes giving my dad the proper military send off. On January 25th, 2022, I went to a friend's funeral and had the worst experience ever. When we arrived at the church shortly after 8 am, we were told by a member there that he had been waiting for the arrival of the deceased since 7am. Family members began to try to call the funeral home to find out what was going on. The daughter of the deceased was able to get the Director of the home, Mr. Curry, on the phone and as she began to ask him where her father was, he intentionally hung up on her. When she called back, she was sent directly to voicemail. Her, as well as other family members, already emotional due to their loss were extremely frustrated and the tears were just flowing. At about 9:40am, the Plinton Curry Funeral Staff arrived with the deceased and absolutely no explanation for their egregious mistake other than referring to it as "a hiccup." Family members told the Director and a member of his staff (Rahim) that they would like to discuss this matter further after the services. The two men agreed in which they did not. Instead, once we arrived at the cemetery, the two men left without saying a word to the family. Upon viewing the deceased, it was immediately noticed that he was wearing a pair of glasses that the family had not provided or approved. Additionally, I noticed that there was hair inside of the casket as if he had just been shaved that morning, a possible reason why he was nearly three hours late. IN CONCLUSION, DO NOT SUBJECT YOUR LOVED ONE TO THE SERVICES OF PLINTON CURRY FUNERAL HOME IF YOU EXPECT QUALITY OR PROFESSIONALISM. read more

I would never recommend this funeral home to anyone. They were so unprofessional. I was recommended to them and during the whole time of dealing with them the two people that recommended them had to keep calling them to get them to do a better job. The girl who came out to my home quit the next day. It was about 6 days to the funeral and I had not gotten a price, had not spoken to anyone, left tons of messages and didn't get a response until about 3/4 days before the funeral. I constantly called the owner Ron who always had an excuse of why things were the way they were. It was a complete mess. They managed to pull off the funeral but the drama even continued after the funeral. The medical examiners office had the funeral home sign for my son belongings and I asked the funeral home about my son's belonging and Ron Curry repeatedly told me that they never received any belongings and that they only received the body. When I told him that someone by the name of Eric Curry signed for the property then he said to me "oh we don't keep that stuff we throw that stuff away" as if it was garbage or something. In my opinion Ron Curry says what ever he thinks the family wants to hear. He is like many other business owners just trying to get as much as he can.
