First of all let me say that this is most likely to be the best hotel in the region of Bridlington…read moreand Filey. It has a progressive attitude and is a welcome departure from the typically OAP centric area. I really do want this place to strive on for future awards and not rest on those past achievements in the eighties. We stayed in the standard room with breakfast on a three nights for two deal. The hotel, restaurant buildings surround a gravel courtyard for parking and there are plenty of spaces. The first impressions are good and the hotel has an air of class about it. The reception is not always manned but with a slow yet friendly start we were set. Our standard room was described at reception as 'spacious', it was most certainly not. However upon comparison with the other rooms on the fire plan it was one of the larger rooms. The size is adequate if you are tidy and organised. The bed although small was indeed comfortable and was the best part of the room. An attempt to keep the design contemporary and clean had been made but there was a lack of attention to detail. The windows locks were missing, the bathroom lamp flickered if one sat on the toilet and the bedside lamps were fitted with old fashioned non-energy saving bulbs, one of which was broken upon arrival. Faults were reported and remedial action was undertaken that very day. The consistency of this service was undermined by the fact our room was not serviced at all for one of the three days, I can only assume the cleaner has Sunday off. The breakfast is delivered in an elegant surrounding and your place is already set for you. The menu seems at first limiting especially on the continental side of things. The service is excellent and our requests were catered for and remembered day in day out. The grilled breakfast is generous and if a high standard. The adjoining restaurant 'Azzurro' is a well laid out and design conscious. Service was prompt, friendly but not over fussy. All of the starters bar the Gamberoni were a little overly constructed. The typical quantity explosion occurred, the stuffed Romano pepper starter at Pizza Hut could teach them a lot. Simple flavours, small plate, done well for the price. Instead my stuffed pepper (Pepperoni Ripieni) was drowned beneath a bowl of melted cheese and filled with a mundanity usually reserved for little chef. On to better things however. The (Filletto Sfizio) Prime Fillet, Mushroom, Truffle, Dolce Latte & Cream was superb and cooked to order very well although a little more medium than rare. This dish although the most expensive deserves your attention. Don't let the pizza oven steer you away from this. The pizzas that were ordered although crispy and authentic on the outer base were overloaded with topping which in turn made for a moist inner base. To conclude, the hotel and the Azzurro are laid before you as a potential masterpiece and I am sure that on occasion all the notes are hit but for me, the admission of room servicing for one day supplement to the repair state of the accommodation let's that potential remain exactly that.

It's not luxury and doesn't pretend to be but it has many of the amenities and perks that you're familiar with like coffee/tea in the room and housekeeping. There is a bar and restaurant right downstairs which is really nice and convenient. The food was actually the best I had in town. The location is ideal for the Herriot museum and Thirsk attractions. I booked through my tour company and when we arrived here, there was an issue with my reservation (it could not be found). We don't know why or how it happened but they arranged 3 nights stay anyway (I had booked 6 nights). Other than that, the service was friendly and my stay was comfortable so I would happily return.

This establishment is housed in a 200-year old building...expect that the floors slope, stairs are steep and narrow, so watch your step. I spent two nights here. My room was small but adequate...perhaps 120 sq-ft. Furniture shows it age but functional. The bed and blankets were perfect...I have slept well. Heating is through a steam register...very efficient until the hotel turns off the boilers in the evening...my room was an ice box...!!! The bathroom is roomy and comfortable. The fixtures could use some routine maintenance or replacement. The shower failed to work, forcing me to shower...eh, bath/wash in the tub. Now I realize that many people love tubs, and I have enjoyed soaking in a few on occasion myself...but lets face it, they are not efficient for washing. There is a real nice pub downstairs...I enjoyed a pint of the local finest, black sheep. After dinner, enjoy a whiskey night cap. My meals were in the downstairs restaurant...a warm and inviting area, plenty of table seating. Breakfast either is continental (pastry, cereal, etc) or a hot cooked meal (ham/bacon/sausage, fried/scrambled eggs, toast, etc). My morning meals were excellent. At dinner time I suggest a table reservation, and when my meal was close to being ready, the server came and got me in the pub...excellent...!!! Dinner was prepared and plated well...tasty, very enjoyable. I recommend the roasted pork belly...very delightful. This is a very nice hotel, and I would stay here again. My only suggestions for improvement would be consider the need for warmth in the winter and don't turn off the boilers at night...it was early February, this is WINTER and it is COLD...and c'mon, fix the shower. There is WiFi...efficient (strong signal and quick speed) when you are downstairs in the pub, but a very poor signal in the room...whats up with that?
