It looked cool, but I was truly disappointed. I ordered a sandwich that was actually a toast. Yes, one loaf of bread. I thought a simple concept as "sandwich" was universally understood. Maybe I do not speak posh. The mozarella was freezing cold, the bread was kind-of-warm and the full thing was full of salt. The chips looked really cheap, but the price wasn't. The service was slow and they need to think about team work, it can't be you have to ask for the same thing several times to different members of staff. My napkin had a massive stain (see pictures) that I can't believe they did not see when folding. Really, why oh why is everbody eating there when its not good?Just to pretend you are ultracool. A very up market offering and the type of place you may call in on the off chance of getting a table either inside or out for a coffee, to meet up with a few friends for a pre dinner drink or a brunch or dinner. We very recently became parents and for months we've planned to come here and have poached eggs (eggs florentine for me in particular) for breakfast once the baby was born and before my husband has to go back to work. I really missed runny eggs and hollandaise when I was pregnant! An even longer story short- they let us order off the breakfast menu after the kitchen was already switching to lunch service. The Aubergine Parmgianna will leave you wanting more, because its so good not because you're not full. The decor in my eyes is not the most exciting I have ever seen, dark wood tonalities with a minty green combination, lovely coloured tiles though. It's been with me through heavy hungover full English breakfasts on weekends out of boarding school to health conscious fitness fanatic refueling after a workout to lovely casual dinners with both family and friends. The one thing I can count on from High Road Brasserie is consistency. The food is always consistently good and the staff are the sweetest people ever. I come here a minimum of three times a week and usually for breakfast AND dinner. They have a huge range to choose from and a lovely ambiance. On a nice day it's hard to find a seat outside as everyone's enjoying their meal in the sun. Summer evenings are the best. Keep doing what you're doing! I've visited HRH several times and only have good things to say. Service is very good without being intrusive and food, which ranges from simple burgers and chips (the chips are grrreat!) to the best cooked fish I've ever tasted. The decor is old-fashioned in a good sort of way, mixed with a modern twist - tiles, stained glass, etc. There are also tables outside, with heaters, and so is great to have a coffee, or even a meal, while watching the world go by. Always busy for food or just a drink - a real coffee conoisseur I know says it's the best place in Chiswick for an expresso. Only 2 minutes walk from Turnham Green tube station and loads of other nice restaurants around if you don't like the look of the menu! High Road Brasserie is located on a busy stretch of Chiswick High Road with competition from many chain and independent restaurants. The fact that it's usually buzzing with customers tells its own story. On a lovely heatwave day like this, eating al fresco at this restaurant is a real treat. I was lucky enough to pinch one of the outdoor tables. The food is very good and takes influences from around the world - chicken club from the USA, hummus from the Mediterranean, duck confit from France and some good old English fare like chicken pie. I had some very nice freshly shucked oysters, served with a twist of lemon. The fish soup was exemplary and full of depth served with all the appropriate garnishes. It was too hot to have a full meal and so I finished with their take on a chocolate fondant served with ice cream. It's not a cheap meal but competitive for this part of London. I just went there today for Afternoon Tea and I was disappointed. I suggest to take the £5 tea set instead of the £10 tea set. The scones, with clotted cream and jam is pretty good; Tea is great as well. But the extra plate of sweets (from the £10 tea set) is just WAAAAAYYY too sweet. So sweet it almost feel disgusting. I was in this area, and wanting a late breakfast/brunch. I went in after reading the reviews here, on my cellphone. I had poached egg and hollandaise sauce atop smoked haddock, with toast, and two Americanos. The food was deicious, although I felt the portion was rather small, and it wouldn't exactly cost a fortune to be a bit more generous with the toast! The coffee was ok, and having milk in a proper jug might seen trivial, but it's a whole lot nicer than those annoying plastic pots! Sugar cubes were also on the table (although I don't take it myself). Service was pleasant and friendly, but not very attentive. I had to attract a waiters attention to get more coffee, and to get the bill, although I wasn't kept waiting. Minus point: I know the menu says that the 12.5% service charge is discretionary, but I HATE that. I am always happy to tip good service, and quite likely to give 15 or 20% but to have it added on really irks me. I would return, and try other dishes. read more

Fancy french food mais oui! Well, it's not too pretentious but they tried to still add a bit of flare when they served us so I felt fancy. A lovely warm evening in the outdoor seating area. Lovely people watching and loud chatting spot. There seemed to be a few different french bistro-ish kind of places in this area. Couldn't decide on a main so had a bunch of little things. The mussels provencal was tasty but prefer the version with cream and wine...that they don't have. Meh. And I swear I think I just make my french onion soup with too much wine for most because this is the third time I've had it in a restaurant and it's been too sweet for me. But they loaded up on the cheese topping so all was forgiven. With wine this place can get fairly expensive so choose wisely. read more

My sister and I dropped in here for dinner after spending the day at Kew Gardens... we thought it looked inviting, but had no prior knowledge about the place, and no reservation....we were blown away. Even though other reviewers have mentioned needing to book, when we came on a late weekend afternoon, there were plenty of tables and we were quickly seated outside. We ordered a carafe of their house white, which sang and hit high notes of drops of sunshine... it was wonderful - and we could hardly believe that something this good was the lowly, well-priced, house wine. The staff was incredible throughout... we had a wonderfully patient and helpful waitress (I believe we bombarded her with lots of questions and requests for recommendations) who delivered the type of impeccable and decorous service you only really expect in a fine French restaurant. It was both unexpected and marvelous. The food also astounded. I had a ratatouille served on a bed of rocket, and I believe my sister had some sort of roast chicken dish. We both found our entrees to be of *exceptional* quality... they were delicious and both had a very homey and comforting quality. But what floored us the most was the total of our bill... it seemed negligible - couldn't have come to much more than £30 - given the caliber of the food and service that we experienced this seemed like a rock-bottom bargain. It seems to be the portal by which Chiswick people arrive on this earth - beaming down with their public school educations, Tory boy husbands and beautiful blonde babies in buggys that cost more than a Toyota. Upon arrival they get given large glasses of chenin blanc by the snooty waiters and with plates of rocket and capers they spill out onto the pavement to infect the rest of W4. Starter salad sizes are perfect for lunch. Beautiful beautiful place on the high road. It was full, and I didn't have a reservation. I was about to walk out, but the nice lady wouldn't let me leave, and found a space for me at the end of a long table. The food was amazing, and the with he sun streaming through the windows, it was a very relaxing lunch, despite the fact that I was in a rush. I have been to High Road Brasserie many times, often for breakfast but with the odd lunch thrown in here and there. The food is always outstanding and consistent. The service can vary from very accomodating to a little stiff, but they have always been helpful with high-chairs and quickly getting drinks for kids (or hungover adults). I would recommend everything, but the ricotta pancakes with lemon curd are fantastic. I relished every bite! read more

It's impossible not to like this place, the food and service is always amazing. The staff have noticed that me, my family and friends are regulars and are always welcoming. I must admit I'm not the most adventurous with food and almost always end up going for steak, but it's so amazing I could never get tired of it. My only gripes are that they took away a lot of items from the drinks menu and some of the bar people don't always know how to make specific drinks. My girlfriend and I stopped off at the High Road House for a snack after hitting the driving range at Duke's Meadows. Food: We ordered the gazpacho and the quinoa salad (small size). Both were very good and tasty. Drinks: We ordered two lattes which both came out lukewarm. My girlfriend sent hers back only to wait 20 minutes for another lukewarm latte. Price: 20.25 GBP for two people. Ambiance: We sat outside since the weather was nice and it was filled with locals. Service: The service is was the only thing that lacked at the brasserie. Our waiter was way too cool for school. Would I go back? I would because I would like to try the other items on the menu which looked good. I loved the High Road Sunset with Cedrata...although I nearly missed getting the right drink! Mrs H had the squid which was good - albeit a little lost with too much salad on the plate. I followed up with an excellent creme brulee. I love this place, love it, love it, love it.....it's always open for whatver you want and is consisently good with great cocktails, good brunch food, lovely staff who remember you and I won't have a word said against it!! Try a Flirtini cockail (champagne, raspberrys Muir served in a martini glass) followed by the Fruits de Mer with a bottle of Chilen Sauvingon Blanc for a truly romantic dinner....the oysters were spanking fresh as were the razor clams which are so hard to find on restaurant menus...it came with approprite accompaniments and was heaven. Mmmm jury's out on this one. I'm a big fan of the Soho House empire - SH, Electric, Electric Cinema, Babbington are all favourites of mine. They all offer well designed spaces with the focus on luxury with a touch of uniqueness. But venue is one thing, clientele is another. SH locations have always had a 'them & us' air about them- but they're just about bearable when the venue is populated by creatives & media types. With the Chiswick catchment area of bankers, lawyers & estate agents you get far too many middle-class wannabes who like to look out and gloat. Shame as the venue's contemporary design is a refreshing addition to the High Road. Food is always good (breakfast/brunch excellent), but on the expensive side. It's hard to know what to make of the High Road Brasserie. On the one hand, it's a very slick restaurant with nice decor and a buzzy, popular atmosphere. There's an extensive menu and the food is good if slightly on the pricey side for this part of town. On the other hand, it isn't very welcoming. The reception at the door is often a bit like a club bouncer. I live near by and I have often eaten here and I have seen it get slightly less busy over time but they still have the attitude that the place is going to be fully booked and you won't get in unless you're on the VIP guest list. It's just a vibe I get and I find that I can usually book a table via OpenTable without a problem. Also, a couple of times recently, I have had the distinct impression that I'm buying bottles of wine but not getting the full measure. Perhaps the waiters were using our bottle to pour wines by the glass for another table. I've seen this happen at other restaurants. On the whole you'd get equally good food and a friendlier atmosphere at the Roebuck down the road (for gastro-pubishness) or at La Trompette (for fine dining). read more

I enjoy food. I love good food. Service I can understand being spotty when the food is great! I come here 1-2 times a week(I live around the corner) and no matter what time I come service is not just spotty, it's downright terrible. Now the servers ARE super nice, like REALLY nice. But the efficiency and knowledge of the product is lacking. It's frustrating because the burger (YES! The burger!) Is worth a trip here alone! Juicy, flavorful and perfect. The Prawn Cocktail is always cooked to perfection. Tho, entirely too much sauce for my liking is piled on top, but not too thick-I just push the excess to the side. The cocktails are incredible (Panceca is smokey, sweet, yum) wine list is impressive and the ambiance is wonderful. And the desserts... Wowzah! The cheesecake is not sweet and allows for the fruit on top to shine. Please for the love of Grace... Work on your service standard. See ya next week! Side note: the management is fantastic as well. As a resident of Chiswick I would say that the clientele here is much more likely to be people in the media discussing film production deals. The secret of the success here is an appealing menu and pleasant atmosphere. The food is unambitious but this means they can deliver it consistently. I have only been here 5 times but consider it one of the best places in Chiswick. The menu is varied enough so that you can go there (booking recommended!) and have what you feel like at that particular time. Firstly, it is ALWAYS busy and for me personally not the relaxing atmosphere I like to enjoy food in. The tables are also close together and the accoustics make it even harder to have a quiet, private conversation. There service is mostly good but obviously there is a lot for them to do so occasional mistakes of lack of attention are understandable and I can overlook. The food itself is mostly of a high standard. I recently had the BEST 'Sunday Roast' I have thus far sampled since moving to Chiswick 5 years ago. It was some really succulent Roast Beef with all the trimmings. The Beef was a generous portion with 1 large Yorkshire Pud and a small side dish of crispy on the outside but fluffy inside Roast Potatoes and Carrots and some leafy stuff. The Gravy was very "French" in an alcohol way but was fine. At just under £20 it was more than the local pubs charge but was worth it. The Eggs Benedict is probably just below 'Balans' for being Chiswick's top maker of that dish. The English Breakfast I had here once was solid and almost equal to 'Carvosso's at 210', both places are expensive but for the occasional treat (I rarely eat a cooked brekkie) I would rather spend more for the quality than have it at a "Naff Cafe" for half the price. A female I was with one time had the Potatoes Dauphinause which she raved about. I tried some of her Battered Plaice goujons which we both thought were not all that good for some reason. The Tartare sauce was not to my liking either. All in all, there is a reason why this place is so popular and I recommend going there at least once. read more

We stopped off after a walk up the high street for lunch. We ordered two roasts and one parmigiana di zucchine. The roasts were served on cold plates and had obviously been sitting for a while as the vegetables were cold too. I sent mine back only for it to reappear 5 minutes later dried out as the chef had just stuck it in the oven to reheat it. Not what you would expect from any reasonable restaurant. I sent it back again. Its worrying that a restaurant of this calibre can firstly serve food on cold plates, secondly that any chef can place a customers food in the oven to reheat it and think this will work. The manager did try and sort the issue but the kitchen obviously had other ideas and took so long I was kept waiting for over 20 minutes before a meal was finally served to me. Alas we had gone by then. Thanks to the manager who didn't charge us for the food we did eat. At £19 per roast, I have been to a basic carvery and had a much better meal for a third of the price. This is one of my favourite place to eat when I can't be faffed going into Central London. The food never fails to come up trumps. It is a contemporary modern styled brassierie and on the plus side the atmosphere doesn't have that coldness that sometimes places of the same ilk does. I am always hungry but I really do like the look of the menu here, it's is always fairly simple fair but very appealing (even if I am a slighty biased piggy), however I tend to always order the foie gras with toasted brioche starter and lobster and chips for main. The bistro at street level seems more lively and fun, but if at all possible, attempt to get an invitation to the intimate, quieter surroundings of the members' club. We went for my husband's birthday. It was a pretty quiet night and everything moved so quickly that we had a hard time keeping up. The service was a little too efficient as we would have liked to take our time but did feel like the courses came out the second we set our forks down. The restaurant itself is beautiful and it was very pleasing to just sit and look around. My only complaint is that the price did not meet the portion. I thought the portions were great (as most places are tending to over feed us) but the price did not match. All in all, it was a nice evening but if we return it will be for their breakfast only as the dinner was just too expensive for what we got. read more

High Road Brasserie is a very pretty, well decorated and buzzing restaurant on the Chiswick high street that I had passed by many times. The place always seems packed with people so I decided to try it out for dinner on a Thursday evening when my family was visiting. The staff were very accommodating and although there were no tables available managed to move some things around and get us seated quickly. Although they were able to get our table prepared quickly, everything else was incredibly slow. Drink orders, food orders, and even the arrival of the food took ages. I understand that it was a busy night but even waiting for the check was a lengthy process. The food was ok and a bit overpriced. I had the nicoise salad and shared the buratta appetizer to start. The salad was alright, nothing special and small for the "entree" size. The burratta was not exciting at all and was pretty dry which was quite disappointing. The place does have a nice atmosphere. I would maybe come back for drinks at the bar, but probably would not eat here again. read more
