This is an elaborate venue. All the fun of the fair with a circus/freakshow feel about it with olde posters donning every wall. Candy floss, sweets. fair ground rides, actual freak show, theatre and lots and lots of bars. There's ample outside and covered seating. Subtly lit in the darkness you could see couples making out in some of the outside booths and friends perching together in stationary bumper cars. The atmosphere was chilled and upbeat. On a date night with the mrs, we booked ourselves in for Fasinating Aida. I would highly recommend you all do the same. Book yourself in for this topical musical comedy and enjoy the quirky atmosphere before it disappears at the end of the month.

We enjoyed a fruity well made Pinot noir from Romania. 24 pounds. Cover charge was a little extra for a special evening, still just 14 pounds. The show was 3 complete bands playing over 3.5 hours. Again this is a remarkable bargain. All employees are sincere, happy and helpful. I felt comfortable as no one was putting on any airs. I've visited jazz clubs the world around both big and small. I grew up in New York City during the 1960's where I saw world class American jazz musicians in legendary venues. Well, now it's 2018 and all those NY clubs are dead & gone. But glory be, this 606 club in London carries the eternal flame of fine jazz musicianship with care & respect. I flew all the way from San Francisco California to come here. Yeah, this is basically the pub that every Iron Maiden fan ends up at when they go to London (though I mustn't be such a huge fan because, well, I didn't realise that this pub existed until recently). Mind you, it isn't the easiest of pubs to get to, but it isn't bad. Hey, they even have some good beer on tap, but yeah, it's the Iron Maiden that attracts me.

Last night's was a Joaquin Phoenix double bill, showing Walk The Line followed by Two Lovers. While we ended up skipping the first film and just having dinner, the price is still very reasonable. We shared a lovely bottle of wine outside on the terrace (had to sit on the wall though as all the tables were full) with amazing views of the river and Hammersmith Bridge. Back inside for dinner, which we shared: a large mezze platter and some mushroom bruschetta, both of which were delicious and just enough. The cinema itself is what every cinema should be: small and dark, with the seats on an incline so everyone can see. They showed the previews and ads WAY before the start time (PERFECT!!), even drew the curtains in between the previews and the film itself (DRAMATIC!!). Riverside has much more to offer than just a restaurant and a cinema... it also shows stand-up comedy, has a fully functioning tv studio where they film live shows, a theatre for live music, and art exhibitions. A wonderful space with quality at every turn.

I debated getting a juice as they were cheap at £3.20 but refused to give this place any more money. It also took FOREVER for my food to arrive, despite the place not being busy at all. It seemed the cooks and staff (including that horrid server) had better time joking behind the bar than working. I could imagine your food would take centuries if one came at a busy time. The roti itself was delicious: chock full of juicy prawns, chickpeas, veg and potatoes. The roti was firm enough to hold the goodies but soft to chew and delicious. Mild spice (and this is coming from someone who doesn't do spicy sadly). It's a shame the food (and the price at £7.95 for the huge roti) is so great bc the crud attitude means I would never return nor recommend anyone would. Good riddance.

The Tabernacle is a strange place. I had heard of it when I moved nearby, but it wasn't until a…read morecouple of years ago, I discovered it for myself. Completed in 1888, the Romanesque red brick and terracotta building has been decribed as the 'Taj Mahal of North Kensington'. When the area went into decline in the 1900's it ws the centre of many slums in the area and race riots. In 1975 it closed down as a church and taken over by the local council. Demolishion plans were twarted and it was converted into the multi use community building that it is today. Joe Strummer of the Clash appeared here in the 70's and it also hosted gigs by Misty in Roots and George Melly. In 1995 it closed to be upgraded, to reopen in 1998. It is still going strong as a multi-use venue.They hold art exhibitions, concerts, dance lessons, fitness and sport activities as well as concerts. It's a great place to go for a drink or snack, and is very reasonable. It also has a full bar. I like sitting outside when the weather is nice in the large courtyard in frotn of the building. I highly recommend you visit this place, should you be in the Portabello Market area.
