I had colleges in mind for my son but I needed a third party who is familiar with the process and have resources to elevate him as a strong candidate. I also needed someone to coach him so that I end up not being a "nag" essentially. I felt confident after interviewing and researching several college application counseling services that Ivy Scholars was the one. What I liked about Ivy Scholars was their bespoke approach to coaching the candidate. It was one on one which I truly loved - Not some group in a conference room discussing your child and giving vague ideas of how to build your candidacy. I felt Ivy Scholars focused on the individual candidate. Meeting with Sasha was great, instant confidence. I reviewed his team and they were all very professional and very qualified. It offered candidacy building, test prep, and essay and application help. Everything I was looking for. I had a lot of trepidation about spending money (it is expensive, they all are) on college applications but I felt it would help my son. I needed help as a parent. Well, it was well worth it. Actually I would say Ivy Scholars helped my son beyond what I expected. Daniel Schriever was my son's weekly coach and counselor. He was patient, thoughtful, and really talented. He took the time to learn my son's personality - strengths and weaknesses. My son was not the most organized - typical teenage boy. He worked with him and learned of his passions and interests and helped him get an internship that he loved. It fit right in with his interests. He helped him connect with a research mentor (Dr Len) and he was able to submit his research for publication. As for the college application process, well, my son, out of the blue, wanted to apply to the service academies. That is a whole another beast of a process. Daniel helped with 16 college applications and three service academy applications. The essays, the college app, coached him on military panel interviews as well as congressional nomination interviews. So now we have a problem - a good problem to have, we never expected. He got accepted to UT Austin early action as an out of state applicant. They had 140,000 applicants this year - 95% deferred, and only 10% is out of state. He is a national Air Force ROTC Scholarship recipient as well as Army ROTC Scholarship recipient. He received an appointment to the United States Military Academy (West Point) with three Congressional nominations. The other all-girls' school recruit team showed up withdrawn, and resigned. SAA is a place for ambitious girls, or to make one. Peers are COMPETITIVE. The '-' and '+' to your 'A' will matter to them. They'll make a stink when they outperform you, or sulk when they didn't perform as well as you. As a student, you'll get accustom to so many girls being smart, pretty, AND rich. To restate, if you're simply both pretty and rich, this won't be enough for status. High intelligence/high academic performance is valued here. Know that none of us alumn regret attending here. When I went onto co-ed undergrad, grad school, and the working world, we're all dismayed and astounded by our female peers, who evidently didn't attend an all-girls' college prep run by feminist(s) ...nuns; They'll lower their performance, not go for things, or simply question themselves in moments of alpha male posturing, and such guys' conscious and unconscious inferences to themselves being better than any of us. F*ck that sh*t! [Ahem.] Your daughter won't be naive to sexism. We get to more lucidly see how sexist boys and men (note: not all boys and men are sexist) get in the way of our own productivity, and ambitious aims. Because of SAA's relationship w all-boys' prep schools, there's a stark contrast of experiences --5 days a week you're with ambitious, talented, fearless young ladies who enjoy the pursuit of accomplishments. There's no contending w unconscious favoritism invested toward the success of boys in the classroom (wc studies have revealed are present in all manner of teachers). There's no teen marathon to display physical perfection; Cluttering our time --bc exposure to guys is confined to particular classes, lunch, and outside school hrs. I only applied to U.T. Austin. Luckily I got in. I do regret I didn't pursue my school counselor's recommendation that I apply to Sarah Lawrence College. The ways of public school peers, at U.T. Austin, was a shocker. Including those IB tracked! I ultimately pursued art, so I'll present what unfolded, thanks to being immersed in the culture of SAA. After finishing my Psychology degree at U.T. Austin, I worked for a yr at the State Legislative Council. The sexism (and racism) was high that legislative season. Despite all that drama, it wasn't in the way of my work. Their data showed I was 99% accurate (a.k.a. highest performer). I forgot the next highest performer, but I know it wasn't 98%. Three of the straight women were threatened in some way (mostly job security) by the wounded egos of our male colleagues' unrequited love. For me that was the first conscious moment that I knew no SAA girl would plead for understanding from juvenile, unprofessional men. We handle such people differently. After that job, I pursued a Fine Arts degree at U.T. Austin. On my arrival, I found that the department's art stars were only guys. I remember noticing all their well-rendered paintings of phallus pleasures and hyperbolized woman-child imagery. Needless to say, I was unimpressed w the ruse of pornographic fantasies contextualized in high art materials. ...I made art that employed my psych. degree and (minor in) sociology, as well as the skills I picked up at the Texas Legislative Council (i.e. reading legalese). By my second yr I won the first unanimously-voted merit award (the most prestigious Fine Art department award at the time). Same semester, I got published into a book that my then-professor also got selected for. I went on to be a Skowhegan Resident, which at the time was the top international art residency in the world. Just under 1% of applicants were accepted my yr. I got to study w Janine Antoni, Glenn Ligon and Kerry James Marshall. --To reiterate, SAA culture positions you well. I graduated from my dream grad school, Pratt (was #1 pgm att). I also made first cut for the Whitney program, Yale grad pgm, and full acceptance to Columbia U. ...So my four stars for SAA is bc 1. I wish the counselors informed us of the unfair details of an Ivy League. I only declined Columbia bc it was the first yr of a grad art program. I had no idea the cache of "Ivy League" would yield too many benefits to mention here. Also know, there has never been a year I regret not going to HSPVA. I would choose SAA for every young female in Houston. So would my alumn peers. SAA's also missing that last star for two more reasons: 2. It is extremely odd that nearly all my peers (and I) married white men. What are we not learning? 3. We need better brother schools. WHY were SJ boys allowed to chant, "TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP...!" at SAA girls, leaving many in tears and most feeling shocked, wholly betrayed and unsafe. Now my cousin and her SAA alumn peers are politically active college women. Well-versed, intelligent, and ambitious.

As with my "infrequent" Yelp activity (although I'd consider seven reviews fairly decent), I'd like to point out that many of your five-star reviewers have far fewer reviews than I have. Yelp even removed one of your raving reviews because it violated their Content Guidelines under conflicts of interest (i.e. it was fabricated by an employee or family member). I would be happy to forward you the email addressing it if you're inclined to respond with, "we are unsure where you read that". Frankly, your responses are embarrassing and childish. Speaking from the Mentorship/Research Project side, my mentor did not assist me at all with my project. My project was initially a website/program which revolved around the idea of mental health in adolescence. However, that program did not receive much success because my mentor did not help me on the publicity side. As a result, I ended up writing a research paper (on my own!) and got that published. To be clear, this research paper was solely created by me and had no assistance from the college shortcuts side. Now, I knew College Shortcuts would be a waste of time on the college preparation side, but my family and I chose to go through with the Application FastTrack Program (after my awful experience from the mentorship program) because of the ratings and how Neha portrayed that the program would look. When picking your colleges, they do not help you find schools which align with your profile. Specifically, if you are doing any extracurricular activities (or anything outside academics), they do not use those interests as your strengths in finding schools which best match you, or even schools which you have a great shot of getting into. Also, they made me write my essays before the official essay prompts came out. Now, this might have seemed like a good thing because of the practice. However, when the new essay prompts come out, they only go through the essay one time. So, you are left to check and edit the essays on your own. If you want to get another check, they charge per essay. If you feel that you are a good essay writer, you don't need this program because they don't really offer you anything. If you are not a strong essay writer, you can practice on your own or use free resources to help improve your writing. The only thing that they might be able to help you with is the steps to apply to college, but you can easily find those steps on Google for free. My family and I did talk to Neha about our complaints, but she would reword the phrases in a way which made the blame ultimately fall back on us. They took no responsibility for their lack of proper assistance in the college application process. I had to figure out how to apply on my own because College Shortcuts was not providing me with the information I needed to create a strong and successful application. Everything you need to apply to college is now on the internet. You really do not need to waste thousands of dollars on programs which will not benefit you in any way.

Not a lot of people outside Houston even know it exists. But it has some really cool people attending and some good professors as well as a really nice campus in the most liberal District of Houston. In fact, the campus is beautiful.
