He runs the gallery with great skill, bringing in a constant flow of innovative artists. The art in the main gallery here is often the kind of art that wouldn't be appropriate to hang over your fireplace, it's art that makes a statement, and is art for art's sake. Many of the pieces are for sale, some seem to be for display only. There is usually a collection of smaller pieces of art at very reasonable prices, and I'm proud to say that I have a bunch of artistic bumper stickers that I've gotten from Flight! This gallery is the home of the Turn it Off! sticker series. I've always been a huge fan of this gallery's stickers. There's easy parking in Blue Star, and you can chain up your bikes on the patio.

Entrance to the museum was free and although the collection was small, it was colorful, interesting, and full of personality. We browsed the gallery and took pics, note: no flash photography. Directly across the street was the beautiful, well manicured Chris Park. Carefully placed concrete art benches with meaningful engraved messages were scattered throughout the park. There's also a sweet covered picnic area to relax or have a small party. Peaceful and a nice retreat. A small art building resides in the park containing a gallery of a particular artist. We thoroughly enjoyed the colorful exhibit. Forgot to mention there's an outdoor sculpture garden next to Ruby City. Super cool! Must check out. Highly recommend this place for art lovers ! Spent a few hours and had a grand time .

Some of it may be "typical" San Antonio touristy stuff, but most of it has the touch and feel of real art created by local artisans. Ceramics, paintings, prints, jewelry, other miscellaneous... You're likely to come across something of interest in this homey little nook of a shop. I really like their variety of pottery and ceramics. Nice stuff. Well made and good selection. See my pics for a few examples. We always stop in here to browse whenever we visit La Villita. Sometimes you find something you can't live without, sometimes you don't. But you always kind of feel compelled to leave with *something* since you know you're funding good works by dropping a few bucks here. No credit or debit cards accepted - heads up. Happy hunting!

A hidden gem loved by locals, a favorite detour before a show at any of the four performing art venues within walking distance- one literally steps away, so close that anybody who has been to a show has inevitably passed by while waiting in line to get through security! Their success in such a prime location is evidenced by their 25th anniversary this year, having been established way back in 1999, with a 10 year anniversary at their present location downtown. The service here is phenomenal. I challenge you to find fault here. Even though I have only ever bought something once, I confess that I have been here without purchasing anything at least a dozen times. The owner, Philip, and any other employees, has never reacted or treated me any differently. Friendly, welcoming, all smiles. More than once I have been inspired to smile back, even though I might not have been feeling it a moment before. Who knows- this might be a form of art therapy.

The place has a great backyard that's been the host of so many parties. You can always bring your own drinks, but sometimes they are kind enough to supply the beers! The gallery space is always impeccably clean, well lit, and the works are displayed well. There's always a cool theme throughout the house, as one artist usually displays their work at a time, giving the viewer a complete experience throughout the gallery. I wandered into this little house that has been overhauled to be a collaborative art space just before they closed. The ladies were nice enough to walk me around and show me different art projects, plates, figures, masks, paintings, legit sugar skulls, and so forth. My head was reeling from all of the wonderful art they were putting out. There are a number of shelving units all around the openspace room and each contains works from a different artist up for sale. What is better than getting a great piece of art AND talking to the artist. They do custom work and said that it may take some time given what is wanted but that everything is handmade. You can tell that a lot of love and sweat went into every piece. This is a wonderful wonderful place that I suggest everyone go to. They are open all year long and don't just do Dia de los Muertos pieces (which is why I originally stopped by). I would suggest bringing cash because I am not sure that all of the artists take credit cards (if any at all). The goods that I saw ranged from $3-$100 so there is something for every price point.

I was unable to order my tickets online. My gift cards showed a balance, but couldn't be used for checkout for unknown reasons. No worries, I'll just go with a less frequented movie that I don't wanna see as much, and wait in your lobby to order tickets for some random poor seats, like we used to do in the old-fashioned days. Once seated the gift cards can't be used to order food. For some reason, Drafthouse requires a credit card to do so within their app. But, you can leave your movie 20 minutes in, and order food from the lobby, and never see the waiter again for things such as refills on drinks or allegedly unlimited popcorn. I won't be buying Drafthouse gift cards from Costco again, because as far as I can tell, they're just some sort of Ponzi scheme to collect my credit card number, name, and other pertinent details. But, I don't think I'll be attending Drafthouse again at all, because gift cards aside their entire thing was providing you a waiter and getting your food during your movie, and they've managed to mess that up entirely.

There's a bunch of galleries throughout the space. Each has a different theme to them with unique art. It's right by the train tracks on S Flores. Make sure you park on the south side of the tracks, because otherwise you could be waiting for a while to get your car! There are restrooms inside, but they're not really that clearly marked! I really appreciate the outdoor public art on the street corner of the motorcycle!

Standing at the Crossroad: Robert Johnson in San Antonio 1936 This exhibit was researched and put together by Margaret Moser. Margaret is originally from SA but made her mark (and is kinda famous) in the Austin music scene. SA is blessed to have her back in town. She is one of the founders of Tex-Pop (and also South-Pop aka South Austin Culture Center in Austin). Margaret takes you on a time line with Robert Johnson's SA history along with many myths of this legendary musician... Let's call him the Godfather of the Blues! Did he sell his soul to the devil? ... or is the myth confused with Tommy Johnson who also said that he sold his soul to the devil?... Things that make you go hummm... The only known recordings of Robert Johnson were cut in San Antonio in 1936 at Gunter Hotel and Dallas in 1937.
