Awesome complex! We visited on a quiet Sunday and were able to grab lunch (pizza) and step into the Contemporary Art Gallery (free admission), and walk around the complex. Several galleries, restaurants and a wine bar here. The buildings are painted different colors and are adorable! Worth a visit for a couple of hours if you're looking for a fun date spot! read more

We always go on 1st Friday it's the best! Venders are everywhere. Vintage, clothing, incense magical rocks, I happen to pick up a vinyl. The Brick has your drinks not on tap though. I just like seeing all the different people and things. There's also live bands sometimes. Good times. read more

I can't believe I didn't hang out at Blue Star Arts Complex more when I lived in San Antonio. Art, drinks, food, and more! While I'm not a fan of Bar 1919 (see my rant...ahem...review for that), but there are definitely some other way more chill, more fun options to eat or drink at: Blue Star Brewing, Halcyon, Stella, etc. Love Southtown. Blue Star is an artist's haven, and it shows. Pop-up studios in apartments, more formal studios, delicious, local food...this venue has it all. Proximity to the San Antonio Riverwalk is bar none. If you want to take a stroll, you will find yourself by the river's edge just outside Halcyon's doors. Now...yes, parking is absolutely atrocious if you are looking for a space during a special event --- say First Friday's or an art festival at Brick. I suggest, on those hectic nights, to park in the King William District nearby where parking is not taxed at a whopping and ridiculous $15 (they also block off all exits with neon-robed "security" so there's no way you can avoid the fee...cash only). If you can, take the time to take yourself on a walk over to Blue Star from King William. There's a gorgeous mural on the way in, so your time will be well spent looking across at beautiful artwork. Within the community itself are a few artisan shops, Brick (a cool venue where something is always happening, including talks by Bernie Sanders and the like recently), a food-gasmic gelato/panini place, sushi, Stella Public House, Provence for grocery and growler needs, and the always welcome, self-proclaimed "house of all legal vices" Halcyon (the tagline alone should get you). So much of the San Antonio I love in one place. This is less of a review than an ode to a beautiful place. If you haven't been, go. (But if you make the parking worst, we're not friends.) read more

Over all a great complex though a little bit of I don't know what the word is; nepotism? inbreeding? as many of the businesses seem to be owned under the same blanket. Maybe monopolized is the word I want. San Antonio in general could use some healthy competition to get on par with other cities in the state and country. But granted all of that, Blue Star is one of a kind and charming because of its unique sense of place. The value placed on arts and visual creativity in this city is world class, probably rivaling the best of them when you measure by the number there are of art galleries, museums, school programs, non profits, organizations, etc etc relative to the population. I have gone to some events at this Complex, and I think it's such a great space to have an event! There are several little vendors and art spaces, restaurant and coffee places. There is a long parking lot, with lots of people and spaces, mostly shared with other shops and vendors, but I can usually find a space. This is a great place to spend an afternoon, and check out the local shops, pick up lunch, chat over a coffee and enjoy the beautiful weather. read more

A nice day trip to explore this area which is in close proximity to King William District. From restaurants to museums there's a little bit of everything. Some of the most popular spots are Halcyon, 1919, and Stella. You can catch the Riverwalk trail right here and at night time it's greatly lit. BSAC also features a nice running trail. read more

In the long history of my going here for First Friday, this place has really evolved over the years. It started off as an industrial park that has transformed into a vibrant social and arts scene. There are numerous galleries throughout here that cater to the weird, eclectic or abstract. The brewery on site makes fantastic beer, and the restaurants here are always top notch. In fact, Stella Public House, which recently opened here probably makes the best pizza in the city, according to this Yelper! I love the fact that you can chill out here on the picnic tables placed along the San Antonio River, and watch the water flow by, or rent a bicycle from the B-Cycle kiosk located on site. I've found Blue Star Complex to be a great place to park, and bike from to get to downtown, or just anywhere around Southtown. First Friday is ALWAYS poppin' around here. It's really worth checking out. Everything stays open late, and they have live bands playing, and vendors set up to sell raspas and hotdogs. Yum! read more

Urban renewal at its best! This collection of small businesses off the oft-trodded, commercialized, and predictable path of the San Antonio Riverwalk breathes more life into a city that continues to demonstrate the potential for true cultural growth. The Blue Star Arts Complex is up against the likes of Pearl Brewery and does quite well. Each shop is unique enough to keep smart customers coming to South Alamo Street for many years to come. read more

The art "museum" - it has been a long time since I felt like I've been ripped off and that was the worst $10 I've spent in a very long time. Huge space, 10-12 pieces of art, some overhead projectors...I don't recommend anyone visit. There was one art gallery that had some tasteful art. However, they're closing April 2015. If you like pizza and beer, which looks to be holding all the customers in the complex, it's the place to be. read more

I have been coming to this area for nearly 20 years when there was barely anything here. Since the addition of more eateries and the extension of the River Walk, it is even more appealing. However, recently, I have come here and all I get is harassment about parking. Half the spots are taken by valet cones (why the heck do you need valet parking in a compact parking lot?-- oh right, money grab). Twice now I have come down to take a walk and have a beer or cup of coffee afterwards and I get harassed about not being a patron and being threatened about towing my vehicle. The signage to that effect is unclear, too. There are tons of other enjoyable places in this city with free parking I don't need to come here for this treatment. read more

I have been going to the blue star complex for years. Regularly I go for a bike ride followed by lunch at the Blue Star brewing co or the Stella pub. Today I was told by a parking lot attendant that I cannot park in their lot unless I go directly to eat or rent a bike. So long Blue Star. I guess I will spend my money at another location. I'm sure Parking won't be a problem after word gets around. read more

Worst parking situation for a commercial complex I've ever experienced. I don't know how this place gets away with it. We dropped our membership at Blue Star Contemporary because of the parking. The developer must have greased someone's palm at city hall to have them turn their head. If a fire broke out at peak hours I don't know how the place would survive. read more

I drove about 30 miles to go visit the Complex and everything was put away by 10:30. I wish it stayed open a bit longer though.

Rent the bikes here and cycle south along the riverwalk to the historic missions. A great afternoon out!

By far THEE WORST parking/management I've ever experienced. If you're an employee, your car will get towed if Joe feels you're not parked for the right reason I.e. you have a bike rack on your car, he will stand by your car until you return just to make sure you're not riding your bike on the trails. And forget if he doesn't feel like waiting around for you to get off work and it does get towed while you're at work and you have proof, you will still have to pay a hefty fee of $213. If you try to contact the leasing office for answers (which is where they direct you, not even employees that work directly for Joey know where to send you) they will never give you a call back and if you do actually get in contact with the property manager, she will tell you she'll "give you a call back when she gets some answers". This has happened to me twice. I have pictures of where I was parked and I have pictures of the car that was parked there for 6 hours after I was towed. Why they haven't created another parking lot with Big Tex and Southtown Flats already up and running, I'm not sure. Supposedly there's meetings about the parking for not just employees but customers as well to support the businesses there, but for as long as I've been working here, no progress has been made. The management should first and foremost be fired, especially the property manager who is unbearable and incompetent. The condos, which are nothing more than painted over warehouses from the past two generations, are a charade and a sham for those looking to rent a space. They charge you $400 security deposit but intend on keeping all of it because all they do is simply paint over the surfaces and then turn around and pay there maintenance workers a meager $10 an hour for 1 hr of work to just paint over bathtubs, toilets, and even the bathroom sink! Their business model is the same as the credit card companies and the telephone companies, which is to nickel-and-dime the customers to death with exorbitant fees and unjustified charges (admin fees, dumpster fees, remote control fees, etc). Be prepared as well to have to sit there while you pay your rent and listen to the invented rantings of the property managers' faux life (& wig) on social media...as if most of us didn't have a schedule to attend to... Given the prices that are charged, coupled with dubious business practices already outlined by the BBB, folks would do much better renting elsewhere. Finally, and as aside from the horrendous management, you will be unable to find parking on your own property for at least 3 days out of the month because the security gate is either broken or folks are just being let in who are not residents. Not surprisingly, you will be unable to reach management or anyone that will be able to help you because they magically disappear for this weekend... read more

While wandering the neighborhood from my hotel I found this gem. It was a gorgeous evening and I took advantage of getting some gelato and sat outside on the riverwalk. Can't wait to come back for dinner perhaps on my next trip to SA. read more
