Currently the owners run the newsagent themselves and are very friendly, and you can regularly find them working in the shop themselves. All other staff are also very welcoming and happy to have a quick chat while you are buying your papers. Papers can be reserved or ordered in specifically. They stock both Scottish and English papers and delivery is available widely. Gifts for children can be bought here all year round, and the range is widened to adults during the Christmas period. They also have a wide range of cards available throughout the year.

We plan on shopping there again this year to see what little trinkets we can find. They also sell gifts and jewellery for all ages. They have little quirky gifts for children, mimicking old style toys like spinning tops and wooden soldiers. They also sell very modern and unique gifts such as Christmas decoration and table lamps in styles of high heels and boots. It really is a little treasure trove with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore.

Inside there is also a ramp as well as stairs for individuals to make there way up to the upper level of the shop. The shop is split into several sections, there is children/babies clothing, mens clothing, ladies clothing, and household items. The shop is spacious, and easy to move around as the rails are not so close together, so you are not pushing your way around. There is a variety of types of clothing and styles, but sometimes I have to admit that they style does not always fit with the present fashion, and sometimes I find it hard to go in there and find some nice clothing. Granted there are some really lovely clothing but some of it is a little bit outdated. Prices are not really competitive, as they are around the same prices as m&s and next, but not necessary the same quality. Of course you can go in here and get some cheap clothing, but I do find for the larger lady it is a bit of a struggle especially as most of the clothing for larger ladies are not very stylish. Overall though the whole selection of the shop is positive, and around christmas time the selection of christmas stock is outstanding, and will take your breath away, some really unique items. They have a large lingerie section up the back where you can buy nice sets or even some socks. The shoe area is quite small but if you ask for something specific it may be a case that they don't have room on the shop floor and they will get it for you from the stock room. Usually the sale rail there is huge, and there is always a bargain to be had. I was even impressed by the tidiness of it all as usually you go in and it looks like a bomb has hit it at sale times!

Johnston's has been granted both Royal Warrant of Appointment for Manufacturing Estate Tweeds, Knitwear and Woven Accessories and The King's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2024. And they keep bees, just because it's in line with their environmentally conscious, B Corp rated way of thinking. I admit, the tour we took was not high on my list of things to do in Scotland, but that was before I took the tour. It was very informative and educational, and I so enjoyed seeing the production end of things. I took a ton of pictures and geeked out a bit about midway through. The items in the shop are high end, meaning pricey, but so clearly way above average and of exceptional quality. I happily succumbed.
