Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Portree, The Quraing, The Water Fall off of Kilt Rock, there were just so many stunning views of this incredible landscape. We were traveling for about hours from start to finish, but it never felt like it. Kev had a great Spotify playlist of some really fantastic music that narrated the trip perfectly when he wasn't. Michelle, the proprietor and leader of the walking tour, is fabulously knowledgeable and entertaining on the couple mile walk around town. I learned so much both about the whiskey making process, about the history of scotch, and about the area. Going into this, I had very few expectations but we enjoyed this so much! We ended up drinking more than a few wee drams along the way to keep us warm and really enjoyed all the local commentary. This is the most fantastic way to explore Dufftown - highly recommended!

We had been planning our trip from the US to Scotland for many years. We cancelled twice due to…read morethe pandemic but FINALLY got to go. Although there for a couple weeks, we wanted to plan something awesome in advance in terms of learning and tasting the fabulous whisky of the Speyside area for a couple days. After carefully researching all options, we selected Michellle and Speyside Tours. We arrived in Dufftown in the afternoon, checked into our B&B and then met up with Michelle's walking tour. It was a delightful day and a fantastic experience. Michelle has lived in Dufftown her whole life and is a wealth of knowledge! She knows EVERYTHING about whisky, the region, the people, the history and chocolate! That's right, we were on the Whisky & Chocolate Tour! Michelle selected precisely the right chocolate for each whiskey tasting. We started at her home office garage where we were issued whisky glasses tied to a lanyard that we had around our heads. We hiked through town and the beautiful countryside, taking relevant stops along the way. Michelle had a large backpack full of great whiskies and a several tins of different chocolates. We would stop in front of a distillery, and she would give us all the background while pouring tastings and serving chocolate. It was so cool! The walking tour was a group tour of about 12 of us. We weren't done with Michelle. The next day, we had booked a driving tour with her. She used her van and took the 4 of us to Speyside Cooperage where we got to see how whisky barrels are refurbished. Then we went to Cardhu Distillery where we got a professional tour from the distillery. It ended with a nice group tasting plus a cocktail. Then Michelle drove us to the River Spey where we hiked down the riverbank and had a delicious sampling of more whiskies from the area. Then we went to Glenfiddich / Balvenie and did more sampling and gift shopping. From there, Michelle cooked us a traditional Scottish lunch with amazing food (salmon, venison) and delicious desserts....PLUS - a cocktail. Following lunch, we took a digestive walk, looking for local botanicals suitable for making gin. This was so fun! We came back to Michelle's office/garage, and proceeded to distill our own personalized gin using some of our fresh botanicals! Overall, I highly recommend Michelle and Speyside Tours. We felt that it was well worth the cost. This was one of the best parts of our entire Scotland adventure!

You have some great views from here but it just gets better. The boat has both in and outside seating. We did go outside to the front to take some pictures but spent most of the time inside as it was about 45 degrees. The ride from Inverness to Urquhart castle is 1/2 hour. The boat ride which includes admission to the castle (one way) was 20 GBP & well worth it. The Whisky hot chocolate is a must try! Well worth it given the multiple breathtaking views as well the chance to search for Nessie

Wow! We toured the cooperage on the middle of several distillery tours and I have to say it was…read morejust as good. With as much colour, flavor and fragrance as the barrels contribute to whisky, this tour teaches you just how important cooperage work is. The tour guide was one of my favorites on the whisky trail. She was funny, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We learned so much about what goes into barrel making and repair, it really is a key part of making whisky. I highly recommend this tour if you are a whisky connoisseur.

Our party of 3 were supper happy to find that Happy Tours had space on their small group (limited…read moreto 8 people) Isle of Skye day trip from Inverness, as Rabbies tour for the only day we could do it was booked out. The tour started at 8:30 am and our meeting point was in front of the Columba Hotel and our tour guide Jim was wearing a kilt and was easy to understand. The itinerary for this tour was: * Loch Ness (with a view of the ruined Urquhart Castle - they Day we were on our tour, it was closed) * Glen Shiel (location where a Jacobite battle was fought against the British Government. On the drive, Jim pointed out a memorial to a Scotsman who lead away Govt Troops, but we didn't stop at the gravesite and I can't recall the name) * Five Sisters of Kintail (saw the peaks while driving out to the Isle of Skye) * Eilean Donan Castle (world famous and extremely photogenic) * Skye Bridge (fabulous piece of engineering connecting Skye with the mainland. Jim informed us that the particular link in the curve of the bridge was to enable the Britannica to be able to pass below to get to the Sea, bit of course while the bridge was being built, the Britannica was decommissioned!) * Cuillin Mountains * Portree * Old Man of Storr * Kilt Rock + Mealt Waterfalls * Quiraing Coming in early spring, we really lucked out and spotted pretty much all the wildlife (not including birds) which Skye is know for, including a gorgeous majestic herd of deer (shades of that Scottish TV show - Monarch of the Glen) at dusk, when driving back from Portree back to the Skye Bridge. Also in the morning, we spotted a heard of wild goats (including babies!) and wild horses with their untamed manes and after lunch we stopped by a closed pen by the roadside to check out the majestic Highland Cows in all their glory! The bus was super comfortable and it was an interesting group, with pretty much everyone on the tour being American. So why the 3-stars? Cause I feel Jim could have done a better job: 1) we discovered early on that the mike wasn't working. Sitting in the back seat, it was hard to hear him. He said he'd connect with another guide and get the mike fixed, but that didn't happen, so a lot of times he was telling folks information and we in the back seat couldn't hear it 2) it was clearly written not to eat or drink in the car, but Jim was doing both and then had a throwaway line about oops, he really shouldn't have done it. In the meantime, all of us obeyed the rules, even tho" a takeaway coffee wouldn't have gone amiss! 3) he was so busy chatting to the folks up front, he missed pointing out some of the sights. So we were driving by the Old Man of Storr Rock foundation and one of the other passengers pointed out (he'd been to Skye previously). 4) I feel more Jacobean history could have been told to us. Admittedly this is not the Culloden tour, but this area is rich in Jacobite history and Jim didn't do that great a job conveying the historical richness of the area we were driving thru. There were some pros- 1) unexpected snowfall / sleet meant we could go up the Quiraing and Jim did a great job showing us other sites around Skye, as we went further up along the coast and saw a most beautiful castle turned hostel. 2) very accommodating about comfort spots and stopping to see the wildlife I'm grateful got the chance to tour the Isle of Skye, however my first preference would have been a Rabbie's Tour.
