It's a very open course - not a lot of rough, and not too many hazards. It's an excellent place for beginners to learn the game. I always had fun playing at Oakbrook. The cost to play is about half of what I paid at other courses, and I've enjoyed Oakbrook more than the others. The driving range is also inexpensive - about 75% what you'd pay elsewhere. It's a slight drive from Johnstown, but it's definitely worth it.

At 8am a local HS golf coach had his girls team there to practice. He said they won't open today We waited until 830am and finally left We took a day off work to play golf I called And talked to a "manager" and he said the course was wet. I said the weather was perfect....75 and sunny. He said it rained yesterday " don't you watch the weather?"" I just asked why they couldn't notify us and he's said he was busy. I would never play at this course again. Not only did they ruin our day, he was rude and abusive on the phone And never offered to compensate with a round of golf.

Over the last several years I have visited Seven Springs a couple of times to use extra days I had…read moreon my Epic Day pass. Seven Springs is about a 3 hour drive each way for me. Getting to the resort is reasonable and while the parking is mostly free each time I have ended up parking in the East Lot which results in a long walk through the Main Lodge and then to the Ski Lodge; not a lot of fun in full ski gear and carrying my skis. Both of my trips were in early spring so the ski conditions were ok, but not great. The slopes had decent snow coverage but there were large stretches of dirt between the slopes. Seven Springs has a good lift system that gets you up the hill and to the slopes efficiently. The slopes near the Ski Lodge are a bit shorter and generally easier. The North Face slopes are a bit longer and more challenging. The general feeling at Seven Springs is that the slopes are very wide open with not a lot of trees near the slopes. Seven Springs is a decent place to ski, however I find that it is not really challenging or charming. From what I have heard it is a great place for families to have a ski vacation as the lodge is slopeside and there is plenty of family friendly activities available. For a one day trip it is just ok, but I would only go there if I need to use up a ski day on the Epic Pass. Of course if it was closer to me it would be more appealing, also I would expect that if the snow coverage is good it would also be more fun. With all that said a day skiing is still a great day, for me there are better options for skiing about the same distance away.

Maybe there was some steeper stuff hidden away, and I am sure it would be a good place to learn, but you are going to graduate from the hills you can see from the resort pretty easily.

When we checked in for the course, we were informed that there is a $39 fee for a rider, in addition to the golf fee of $130 per person. While I was informed ahead of time that the $39 fee existed, I will say that of all of the high end courses I've ever played, this is the first course that ever actually enforced it. Not the best value, but I was fully aware of their policy, so I cannot say I wasn't informed. After checking in, we ordered food, and was told it would be ready by our tee time. When we arrived to pick up our food, I was told the food was just being boxed up, and charged for food that had not even been started. 10 minutes later I come to find out that the food had not been started, and I'm now 10 mins late for my tee time. After asking for a refund, I rush outside to hit my first tee shot, only to realize 2 mins later that they had shortchanged me by $13 dollars. Overall, the course is nice, and is in good shape. Having driven 3 hours from Philadelphia, I would have expected a better experience. If the golf and atmosphere had been better, I would have definitely been inclined to come back. After this experience, I would not spend the time, or money coming back. While it's hard to put into words how truly bad the experience was, the overall lack of professionalism and indifference to our concerns is among the worst I've seen at a high end course.

I was concerned since I had never golfed, other than putt putt and the driving range, that I would A) embarrass myself B) Make my group of golfers upset at me for being awful, or C) both A and B. As it turned out there were few truly fanatical golfers on the trip and I probably could have swung the outing... All puns intended.. So since I didn't golf I will comment on the other experiences I had. I spent most of the first afternoon watching the golfers from an outside veranda/stone deck type structure that you could view a large portion of the course. It was beautiful. Beautiful day and paired with a nice cold beer was optimal. The outing was fitting with a lovely buffet style lunch prior to golf, then a cocktail hour, followed by a more formal still business casual dinner and then lots of drinking, cigar smoking, yucking it up poker playing with co-workers and customers. This is a private club so you can smoke indoors, just make sure you aren't wearing jeans! Both the lunches served the first and second day and the dinner the first day were phenomenal. The food was top quality and even though I don't eat meat there were so many side options and salads to chose from I did not feel like I missed out on anything. The wine and alcohol was all top shelf as was basically everything else I experienced here with the exception of my room. There are cottages on the premises for overnight guests, and though I feel the cottages were dated (but very clean, and I will get to that in a minute) they also did not lock from the outside. I asked different workers if I could get a key and was told no to take my "valuables" to the front desk if I was worried. How do I tell the ladies my valuables are me? The idea of walking back to this room late at night with no lock on the door was a little intimidating and something I think the management should be aware of. I guess a lot of things are still "old school" in this club. Which would I guess also include housekeeping. As I stated they are very on top of it, so much that I had just checked in my room at around 11 am and at 11:45 AM they were knocking to "clean". I said no thanks... At 4:00 pm when I left the veranda to get ready for dinner they were knocking at 4:30 "housekeeping"! I said I am good! At 8:00 am the next morning having missed breakfast and the morning tee off due to too much card playing and imbibing once again a loud knock on my door, "housekeeping!" I said I am good. They waiting about five minutes to knock again telling me this time "Check out is at noon!" in a quite iritating tone. I screamed it's 8 AM! Well it got me moving but was super annoying. So other than the no security room and the over zealous housekeeping personnel, this was a top notch place to be. It is evident in their memberships, which run about a quarter of a million to just get on the waiting list, then 30K dues every year after. I will stick with being a guest. If you get the chance to come here do it. Overall an amazing experience.

This is a challenging course that has beautiful views throughout the course. This is one of the Top…read more50 Public Courses in the country, very well taken care of, and reasonable fees. The working staff is very friendly and Champion Lakes have accomodations to stay overnight with great golf packages. The late great Pittsburgh Pirates, Dick Groat and Jerry Lynch designed the course. The views across the valley can be lovely - you may get more sniffs of nature than you desire on certain holes, but that factors into the ambiance. Clubhouse: Bad. The clubhouse is extremely dated and not very well maintained. I doubt any upgrades have been made since it was built. Pro for me though - clubouse dogs! Some very old very sweet labs are there (as of 2022)
