I tried the Iron Circuit class at GetFit Studio in Alexandria today and honestly had a pretty…read morefrustrating experience. When I first arrived, the front door was locked. I walked around the building trying to see if I was in the wrong place or if anyone was inside, but I couldn't find anyone. After waiting a few minutes, I called the studio and no one picked up. I went back to the front, and eventually a guy opened the door for me but when I mentioned it was locked, he said it wasn't, which was confusing and didn't sit right. The class ended up being just me, which already made the energy feel kind of off. It was set up as a circuit with eight exercises and four laps. The warm-up alone was three rounds, and I was honestly exhausted by the second round. I told the coach that, but he kept pushing me to finish the last round anyway. I get that coaching involves encouragement, but it felt more like pressure than support. The overall vibe of the class was pretty dull and unmotivating. I'm not sure if it was because I was the only one there, but there was no energy or effort to make the session engaging. I completed three out of the four rounds and told him I didn't have it in me to do the last one. His response was basically, "So you're just going to leave early then?" which came off dismissive and a bit rude. At that point, I was already drained and over it. On top of that, the cleanliness didn't inspire confidence. The shower supplies looked really neglected, residue buildup, cloudy containers, and just generally not something you'd feel comfortable using. It added to the overall impression that the space isn't being maintained as well as it should be. Between the confusing entry situation, lack of responsiveness, the coach's off-putting attitude, and the condition of the facilities, this just wasn't a great experience. I don't see myself coming back.

This gym is fine and serves its purpose I guess. But I like my workouts to be relaxing , which…read moreisn't really possible in this setting. At any given time, the thousands of mounted TVs show Fox News , ASPCA starving puppies, and some sort of graphic drama like SVU. Those three channels are on ALL THE TIME. I go to the gym to escape, not to continue seeing the horrors of our world blasted in my face. There are tons of machines, but about 1/3 of them are janky or broken. The majority of free weights and barbells are so old and worn that they don't have visible weight numbers , so I have no idea what weight I'm actually lifting. We were initially excited about the childcare they offer, but even that space is sad and uninviting so my daughter never wanted to go. (Also they incentivize members who leave 5 star reviews so take those with a grain of salt)

I am writing because the situation with one of your janitorial staff has become completely…read moreunacceptable, and I am done tolerating it. This is not a minor annoyance--this is repeated harassment, targeted behavior, and a blatant lack of professionalism from someone who has no business confronting members the way he does. This janitor has approached me multiple times in the locker room, following me around to lecture me about "making the floor wet" because I came out of the sauna sweating. Meanwhile, there are always several other members exiting the sauna at the same time, equally sweaty and using the facilities exactly the same way I am. He stares at them, says nothing, and then zeroes in on me. Every. Single. Time. Let me be incredibly clear: sweating in a gym--especially coming out of a sauna--is *normal*. Expected. Literally the entire point of the facility I'm paying to use. The fact that your employee thinks it's appropriate to tell a member to "stop sweating" is absurd. The fact that he told me to wipe down the floors myself because I was "too sweaty" is even more ridiculous. And the fact that he escalated this by running to the front desk to complain about me sweating is beyond unprofessional. He has threatened to "report me" to management for doing absolutely nothing wrong. I'm telling you right now: I will not to be harassed by an employee for using the gym properly. I will not be singled out while others are ignored. And I will not tolerate being followed or spoken to in a disrespectful, confrontational way in the locker room. I've been a loyal member here for more than three years. I pay for access to the sauna and locker room like every other member. If your staff cannot handle the incredibly basic reality that people sweat at a gym, then your training and supervision protocols need immediate attention. I expect this issue to be addressed swiftly and directly. If this continues, I will cancel my membership and make it very clear why. I am not going to keep paying for a hostile or uncomfortable environment created by an employee who seems more focused on harassing members than doing his job.

It's not easy to motivate me to workout, but his style of training is perfect. I've always taken classes through class pass, but will probably start just signing up through his website because I like the classes so much. He pushes you to do your best, but not to the point of injury like some other trainers. He's tough, but also caring and realistic. Seriously though, I can't say enough nice things about BT Fitness. I've tried a few classes, he has a body pump style one and a circuit training one that I like. As for COVID protocol, he encourages mask wearing, keeps class size limited, and has a sanitation machine that he sprays equipment with after each use. I felt very safe here my first time back post COVID.

Overall, I enjoyed the class. It was mostly women for the Saturday boot camp, which I found on Class Pass. The instructor is a man and he's no-nonsense. Haha. Everyone participating in class was nice. It wasn't a "warm" environment but it seems like there's a community there. Overall, a good workout. I definitely would've liked more explanation about where things were, additional modifications for my bar, etc. But I got the job done!

If you weeks ago I got a good look in the mirror and realized just how far I had fallen out of shape. Truth be told I freaked out a little bit. Once I calm down I started doing my research. I knew that based on my age I needed to find a specific type of training. I know what to eat. I know how to "train" but i also know how to put it off "until next week". it is so easy to make excuses when you only answer to yourself but finding a program and committing to it drives me. I was really shocked at the variety of trainers. You have the rah rah coach, You have the coddler, you have the push you til you drop types etc. I lived in the gym for years. I loved it. Then kids, and age, and life became the excuses and i just quit doing it. I needed to find someone who could build on my experience and modify my workouts to my age and new goals. I no longer need to spend 2 hours workouts 5 days a week in the gym pushing way to much weight trying to be a better athlete. I spent quite a bit of time both by phone and email chatting with Elin about my goals. First thing i noticed. Elin listens. He took in the history i gave him and what i would like to achieve moving forward. Elin spent over a week digesting the info i provided on his questionnaires. He clearly was looking for the right fit. The beauty of Elin Fitness Redefined is the great and varied type and styles of trainers. Day one workout. I have a workout with Ray. He reminds me of my best workout partners from my youth. He is a lifelong athlete. His freestyle wrestling background as well as long term military service let me know immediately that i was working with a guy who would push me in the right way. Elin checked in on my at the end of each of the first 3 weeks. He didn't just ask the tired "how's it going" type of questions but rather wanted specifics just to make sure i was getting what i needed and he committed to. Client service is a big deal but i actually feel like he knows he can change lives with proper training and that starts with matching the right people. I told Elin i wanted to work for 10 weeks and see where i was. I have already seen my sessions getting more demanding and Ray tracks my rest times and my need for recovery between sets has dropped dramatically. That is so cool and it motivates me even more. I love the constant variety of exercises. little chance of getting bored here. Need a jumpstart? Call Elin. Want to be a competitive bodybuilder? Call Elin. Best time to start is today.
