Hija de Sanchez is a casual Mexican restaurant by Rosio Sanchez who was the former pastry chef from Noma (3 Michelin starred restaurant in Denmark that has been rated the #1 restaurant in the world for several years). It's a taqueria with a very limited menu as well as some sides. Having lived in southern California all my life and being exposed to some of the best Mexican cuisine out there I decided to put them through the paces. Ordering is done at the front and then they will call out your order when it's ready.
Chicken gringa (100kr=$14.39) - This consisted of 2 small flour tortillas with grilled cheese, free-range slow cooked chicken, coriander, onion, and jalapeno salsa. Chicken was super tender, had great flavor and a nice bit of kick to it.
Fish tacos (95kr=$13.67) - This came with 2 small tacos, each with 2 corn tortillas. Small pieces of battered and fried code were served on the tortillas and shredded cabbage and chipotle mayo rounded out this dish.
Beef barbacoa (40kr=$5.75 for 1) - I ordered 2 of these because they were so small. Each taco came with 2 corn tortillas, tender beef barbacoa, onions, cilantro and a piece of a lime.
Churros (55kr = $7.91) - This consisted of 15 small bite size fried choux pastry dough with a small cup of goats milk caramel sauce. While the sauce was on the thinner side, it had great flavor and the churros were super tiny, but crispy and delicious!
Overall each item that I tried here was good taste wise and slightly better than your typical taqueria in Southern California. However, pricing here is double or in some cases triple of what I would expect to pay. This is a good option if you are looking for Mexican fare in Copenhagen as there aren't many places to choose from. read more
