Elmwood is a well-maintained cemetery. Seems like it's burial site for some well-to do Charlotteans. I saw so many names I'm familiar with. Including "Dunhill", which is the historic hotel I used to work for Uptown. Elmwood offered me it's own history lesson while also humbling me. It made me feel so grateful to be alive and able to admire this place from the land of the living, with all respect. If you ever need to get some mental or emotional clarity, take a walk in a cemetery. This was enjoyable.

This…read morecemetery offers cemetery lots, mausoleum spaces, columbarium niches for cremated remains, grave markers, etc. The mausoleum looks nice. They have also decorated the grounds with tasteful statuary among each named section(garden). This cemetery has been around for about 60 years so it is blessed with many large mature trees that are beautiful in the summer. This is a memorial park. All of the markers are flat and even with the ground. The grounds are well kept and they provide a place that families can be proud to place their loved ones.

My mother's obituary had a major grammatical error and other numerous but minor grammar issues. I…read morecontacted the funeral provider, asked for corrections, and they did so. But not before they passed off responsibility for the errors to the forgiven but less-than-attentive/literate family member who wrote the original obituary. I was told there is no proofreading or editing done when obits are submitted to the funeral service provider, that they simply copy and paste. Seriously? What a canned, default response. How unprofessional and demeaning this was for me to hear, to pass off the blame for what should've been an expected, value-added responsibility given by the provider for the family's benefit. Shameful, totally shameful. A simple pass through a computer with spell-check would've caught the majority of errors. I decided to read other obits submitted by the same provider. What I found goes beyond shocking. Imagine your own loved one's last presentation of love and dignity for the world to see, imbued with blatant errors, distractions that should have never made their way to the page. Absolutely unforgivable. Two supposedly intelligent people ruined my mom's final say to the world as to who she was by not taking the time to do their job responsibly and right. So disappointing.

I have since removed those photos except one of the area where my loved ones are buried to show a before and after photo. New ownership has stepped up to the plate and started to fix the things that need fixing. I think all the graves I took photos of last year have been fixed. Last couple of years I would not have recommended this place but I do see effort now that they are trying to live by their caring motto.

A few weeks back we lost a loved one, we are not from the area and we don't have a church home near…read morethe area. Once we got the news of the passing of our beloved, I was then tasked with finding a suitable funeral home to provide the services what we will need during this difficult time. As a family member who lives out of state I decided to Google and thru my research I chose to contact the Wright Funeral Home. I am so happy and blessed that I made the correct choice. I called and left a message and Mrs. Wright returned my call promptly and with an empathetic ear she advised me of my options, and also provided info that was of a great help to us. I could tell she knew what she was talking about as her experience oozed over the phone and I was then confident in her handling our loved one's final arrangements after just one call and speaking on the phone to her. She was amazing from start to finish. We submitted the obituary & pictures to them and they did a wonderful job. My family had more face to face dealings with Mrs. Wright and her staff and they all sang praises of how they all were very professional and on point with all things that needed to be addressed. I've been putting off this review for way too long, but better late than never?…read more Morbidly put, this is where both my parents lie (RIP, Dad 2010 and Mom, 2015). My parents told me once that they drove by it, and immediately decided that this was where they wanted to rest in peace. If I recall correctly, they went ahead and bought the piece of land there years in advance (5-10 years prior to?). As it goes, when their time came, we bought a plaque/slab (not sure what you call it) with both of their names on a beautiful piece of land, along with a sitting bench, titled "Lee Family" under a tree, filled with chimes...and I visit this lovely place to mourn a few times a year. Every time I visit, I hear the chimes...and it feels as if they're greeting me. :( Also, I am SO glad we decided to get the bench. I've actually brought food there to eat under the tree...and it actually felt peaceful. From my recollection (though hazy due to the trauma of both occasions), the service by their staff was really good. I guess my only reservation is that there have been a few occasions when I felt that the upkeep/maintenance could have been better. For instance, it doesn't appear that they do any sweeping or dusting of these plaques. As you may see from the most recent pic, my parents' plaque almost look brown with all the dustiness that gathered over the months. I mean, it's actually a shiny, black marbled plaque, but you'd never know it! Guess I need to bring Windex to scrub off the dirt next time? This place is a bit pricey, but overall, I guess it was worth it. Though a bit of a drive for me, it's always a nice, pleasant place to visit (despite the morbidity of it all)...and surprisingly, not spooky at all.
