I came here to visit my Dad while he was in the ICU before he passed on Thanksgiving Day this year. Although my Dad had to be moved from being on a ventilator, being in the ICU, being in step down care, etc., I can't say enough good things about the staff that I interacted with at Hillcrest. From the time my Dad called me to tell me that he was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer to the day I saw him in the ICU was exactly one month to the day - and he was dead just a couple weeks later. The staff answered my questions without beating around the bush which I appreciated. While my siblings and I were very pragmatic about our Dad's prognosis, my Mom and my Dad's extended family weren't taking it so well. My mom was at the hospital 24/7, sleeping in a chair in my Dad's room to be by his side. The staff were incredibly gracious and kind to my Mom. They let all of the family filter in, pray, talk, etc., for as long as they wanted outside of shift change. While I was out of the country on the night of my Dad's passing, a few of my siblings were there and they let me know that the staff allowed more than 2 people at a time to go in and sit with my Dad's body for a few hours to grieve, which I know my family appreciated. The only drawback for my visit to Hillcrest was that the cafeteria was rough for gluten-free options as a celiac. I went an entire day on just a bag of Cheetos from the cafeteria while I sat in my Dad's room. If I needed to stay longer at the hospital, I would have had to order safe food from outside of the hospital. This place looks like it's falling apart. My dad was in here for a week. He called and called for a nurse. It took 20 minutes for her to get mad enough to stomp into his room and get in his face. Another nurse had to come in and break it up. The tables didn't fit over the bed and my dad couldn't reach his food... just a few of the issues. My care while I was there was good, I have no problem with the hospital itself. It's the billing. I paid my part after insurance, but with no further billing or notice they sent me to collections and now I'm getting spammed with emails and collections calls about my bill from this place. WHAT BILL!? I never got a bill, I've signed in to that stupid app they force you to use and there is no frickin' bill, I've called the number and there's still no fricking bill!!!!!! 1 Star - Negligence, misinformation, and devastating consequences My father went in for what was described as a minor surgery and was expected to go home the next day. Instead, our family experienced confusion, conflicting information, and a shocking lack of communication from the medical team. We were told completely different things about his condition: first that his entire kidney had been removed, then that 70% had been taken, then something else entirely. For an entire week, the surgeon did not properly communicate with us. When he finally appeared, he casually told us that only 10% of the kidney had been removed and that my father could go home the next day. My father died that very night. The lack of clarity, accountability, and urgency from this hospital was unacceptable. Families deserve honesty, transparency, and competent care--especially when lives are at stake. Wow, just wow. How can a place like this exist. Extremely inefficient, zero communication, no one at any desk to help for service or questions or guidance. Surgery was slated for 6am. They decided to do it at 10:30am. Waste of 5 hours. The doctor told patient one thing, then doctor told the surgeon something else. Added to a surgery that was suppose to be simple and turned into multiple incisions when only one was needed. . Aside from the discharge nurse, all phones receive about patient where held by rude people who are short and not kind. Highly recommend avoiding this place at all cost. read more

The tape came off the iv spot and needed to be replaced A nurse by name of Josh came to do it and was going to stick in my hand I told him I didn't want in my hand and he told me that he didn't care what I wanted that's where he was putting it I fought with him for like 5 minutes until he listened He twisted my arm so bad it hurt next day Than that night they woke me up every two hours as one department doesn't communicate with another The nurse tells me my bloodwork was back where it should be but than they give me more iron telling me that the nurse was wrong Than I finally get to sleep and when I wake up my breakfast is sitting next to me I go to eat and before I take my first bite a girl walks in asking if I'm done??? Full plate of food still there Next before I get done telling that girl that I just started eating administration comes in asking exact same questions as 1st night, I told her we did that first night and she said that they didn't have it (where did it go??) The one night I asked for some ice water nurse said she would be right here 25 minutes later I had to ask again!!!! THE LACK OF COMPASSION BY THE NURSING STAFF NEARLY COST ME MY LIFE LAST NIGHT. I have kidney failure and am on home dialysis. My fistula got infected, so I went to the ER. 8 days later 120,000 dollars on all of the same standard tests. Finally got my HD Cathe placed. I have suffered Satanic ritual abuse as A child. So TRAMA is anything we must ensure. When we are systematically broken down using the NAZI. Soul destruction MK Ultra, anyway, I get a bit cagey, and the theft of Innocence forced to take lives in rituals beyond my control. So I had to leave due to mental health reasons, plus they were pumping me full of drugs for 8 days, I was dying, and I decided I needed to go home to protect what little energy I had left. As soon as I signed the AMA. The nurse told me I had to get out of the room, offered no wheelchair, and gave me incomplete directions to the main entrance. I got lost and was on the floor trying to gather myself. I finally managed to get back to a floor with people on it, only to be sat in a wheelchair after begging the nurse to help me to the lobby. There was a young man walking towards me. I asked for help he agreed. The nurses started scholding him, telling him hr COULD NOT HELP ME!! Deamons like behavior, no care for humanity, just policy that allowed them to PUNISH ME FOR LEAVING. This was floor 7, Hillcrest Mail, Tulsa 1/28\2025. If you were involved, I am hiring a lawyer, and I have the witness and the lawyer to do it. Emotional trauma, as I tried to explain what was happening the did not care one bit. ICU - Intensive Care Unit Rapid Response team has been excellent and came back to check on our loved one. Nurse staff has been excellent - they are very responsive and helpful at explaining what is going on, consulting the physicians/infectious disease person. I asked for my loved one to be raised up and they did it right away. Food service send what you have ordered but our loved one didn't like the no salt/no season. Great menu selection on offering. Cafeteria give you a discount if you spend cash vs card/debit. They have a nice selection of salads, beverages, sides like yogurt and other non-traditional items. ICU Lobby is very disappointing. The womens/birth center and the Heart Institute are top notch facilities with fantastic waiting room, large t.v., coffee options, vending clean and spacious. The ICU has mismatched chairs, it's dingy, no special amenities for families, no hand sanitizer, no magazines, its non-welcoming. These families are dealing with tragedies & loss and they wait in a space that is hopeless. The t.v. is tiny and only offered on one side of the room. It's mediocre at best and should be updated. Our family has been in ICU over a week and it's difficult to not know what your good to get in that waiting area day to day. Lastly, the womens bathroom in the ICU waiting room is disgusting, it's stinks, the floor in constantly wet and the shared open lid trash can is unacceptable. This bathroom needs to be re-done NOW. The care our love one is receiving in very good and they always ask if we have additional questions Kaylie, Jessica, Daniel, Faith, Brittney, April & Alana thank you so very much for you care. The nurses could be more caring about their patients. My husband is still in the hospital and the nurses are not very responsive to him or about him. One time, he needed to go to the bathroom. I (his wife) went to the nurses' desk to ask for help. There were about 9 nurses sitting around their desks, but not one of them came and helped until after I had gone back the third time and then stood and waited for about 5 minutes before one said she could come because she was just charting anyway. Also, later, his IV was hurting and I asked his nurse about it. It took her 3 times to come to him because she was on the phone with her own family member instead of saying she would call them back. read more

The worst hospital I have ever experienced. The staff was so clueless they tried to discharge a relative who had been off his medications and was not even aware of what was happening. I was told he called his girlfriend to pick him up (she doesn't exist) and taken to the entrance for pickup. I was told he tried to get into a vehicle driven by a female and she told them she had no idea who he even was. What kind of "medical professionals" could possibly allow this to happen? read more

Hillcrest ER North ER has about the absolute worse Dr working there. Dr Flores was horible, mean, hateful and so nasty. Really mean! And he's training nurses to be the same way. Shameful. I came in with a concussion and broke my leg in two spots. He wanted to send me home right away with no way to get around and not offering wheel chair, crutches or walker etc. nothing! He then said he'd call me a uber to get me out of there. How am I supposed to get around with a splint that went up to the middle of my thigh and I can't get around! Still basically, he told me to leave and wasn't nice about it because now he's pissed! Look, I can't walk at all! My head was killing me and still spinning and I couldn't even stand. He never suggest crutches, walker wheelchair. But Anyway, I can't use a walker or crutches because just a month before I had shoulder surgery to get plates and screw out from a shattered clavicle 7 months before. Never would get a wheelchair! I told them that and he dismissed it like it was nothing. Just we'll get you a ride and get out. This is where he got the even more absolute horrible to me and started to argued with me. He didn't want me admitted. Period! I had a severe concussion and needed to be monitored! He got pissed and slammed his computer and walked away telling me no way. I said to a student nurse that it wasn't negotionable. And he again said no. He put my leg in a splint and I was in screaming pain. I told him again I needed to be admitted period. He throws another fit. Then-He was even more nasty telling the nurses/students to avoid me after I said I really need a room. I was alone for hours. I could hear them talking nasty about me to him, my room was right by his desk and I could hear him say everything. It was horrible what he kept saying to make me leave to them and no nurses came to help me at all, which he encouraged and he wasn't shy about telling them just ignore me and other really nasty things. I heard it all. Horrible. He's TEACHING these nurses not to have compassion! And for everyone admitted we all were a burden. He is supposed to be the example and teach them! Horrible. Once admitted finally, I had to complain about him to 2 of his "bosses" after finally gitting me a room. They were appalled. But I seriously doubt they didn't reprimand him or write him up. Probably nothing will happened, of course. They protect their own. I told them to please check to footage from my experience with him and him turning all nurses to ignore me and mistreat me. I heard everything he said and it all was vile. I recorded some on my phone too. He should never be a Dr if he's that horrible to patients that are in pain and scared.. 3 times he got nasty or acted like a child when I told him I was not fine and I need to be admitted for my head injury and extreme pain. There's so much I can say about all of it but everyone on that shift should get fired. Laying there all alone I witnessed horrible behavior and not only to me but others. Some are lazy and if you bothered them and if you needed help they were put out. Shameful. He's teaching these students and nurses to be cold and not nurturing. It was so crazy and I couldn't believe he would treat patients like that. I am considering suing this Dr Flores and St Frances. Shameful. I can go on and on and on what I witnessed there and how he treated me and telling all nurses to ignore me. I sat there alone for the longest time. So I told him I can hear everything they said. I heard every word. Every nasty thing! Then he sends a nurse in slamming my door and drawing the curtains so I couldn't hear them but I was right by his station and I still heard him ragging on me. My husband just spent 11 days at Hillcrest South in Tulsa. GREAT care! Every person we came in contact with from the people in the cafe, the housekeeping personnel, the nursing staff and the doctors were wonderful. Very professional. Very willing to listen and answer questions. Couldn't ask for a better team of people to look after a loved one. His care was exemplary. I was admitted in back in November due to having back to tonic seizures, which I was on my way to the ER in Muskogee when that happened. ( I'm a vet ). The ambulance came and took me to Hillcrest, which was the only place that would take me in during the COVID junk we are going through.. Anyhow, I ended up having emergency brain surgery, in which they diagnosed me with grade 2 astrocytoma brain cancer. Again, this was back in November on Thanksgiving. Fast forward to about a week ago, end of January we went to MD Anderson for a second opinion, because no current doctor would perform a second surgery on me and wanted me to just sit through chemo/radiation for the remainder of my life.. We get to MD Anderson, and they do their test on the sample hillcrest's pathologist froze, meaning the same sample.. And ruled it to be anaplastic grade - 3 astrocytoma brain cancer. So, not only did Hillcrest misdiagnose me, the cost me two months of seeking proper care. Especially when there is a large difference between grade - 2 and grade - 3. Grade 3, being more aggressive. Example in Prognosis (glioma): Grade 1: Median survival: greater than 10 years Grade 2: 5-year survival rate: 34% without treatment / 70% with radiation therapy == Grade 3: 5-year survival rate: 23% [ Median survival time is 18 months without treatment (radiation and chemotherapy). ] == Grade 4: Median survival: 10 months Source of stats: ( you can find it on many other sources as well ) https://www.amboss.com/us/knowledge/Astrocytoma#:~:text=The%20prognosis%20is%20usually%20poor,cured%20with%20effective%20surgical%20resection. Ya, VA is dragging their feet in this as well.. You know, because everyday doesn't count and brain cancer takes holidays.. Anyhow, I'd avoid this place, it could waste your money, but it could also change the course of your life and possibly shave years off you if not just kill you in general. If it weren't for respect of other doctors and the fear that other doctors would be scared to work with you if you went after someone for malpractice, this is pretty dang near a good enough reason to do just that. However, it is not worth the chance to extend my life do to this massive mistake. (They even have in my charts I did not pee myself during the seizures, I sat in piss pants for almost 24 hours, before they brought me a gown, while my wife slept on the ER floor. Great service, yea? Oh, and that I was of sound mind and normal. I had back to back seizures, I don't remember much of the whole week, including FaceBook videos I happened to make. UPDATE: lowering from 2-star to 1-star. (Almost 8 months have passed since original review.) Had a 6:30 AM appointment for MRI. The Hillcrest scheduling employee did not follow our physician's directions, causing this morning to be a waste of time & money. At first, the MRI staff acted like we were lying about Dr.'s instructions. Then came back and said special instructions were indeed there (in all caps), and the scheduling person made a mistake. SUPER Frustrating since this scenario has happened before. So now we have to wait even longer. ---- Original Post ---- Posting on behalf of my husband: Started out yesterday afternoon with trip to ER due to shallow breathing and ongoing chest pain. Spent the next hour running blood tests and EKG... got BP down and meds for pain around heart started working.... didn't get into hospital room until midnight. Nearly 8 hours stuck in Exam Room. Unfortunately hospital roommate decides it's okay to turn on tv and the lights on their side off room @ 3:30 AM -- WTH! And whoever came to be with him this morning was SO LOUD as I was trying to get Some sleep. They take me down to run stress tests. I have told ER doc & ER nurse I am violently claustrophobic and the only successful scan was when I was under anesthesia-- I'm assured I won't be confined. They lied I have pressure plates on my chest, my arms pulled up, constricting my breathing. I panic and start thrashing, telling them to get me out. WE TOLD YOU, MANY TIMES, BUT YOU DIDN'T BELIEVE US!?!? Late morning, another Nurse came in saying here's Meds to calm you down for the tests.... Round 3 of explanations begins. Does anyone listen here? Do they share information? Now you would think someone with breathing issues and cardiac issue would be hooked up to monitors -- but Nope! A good tech on the floor questioned why someone else had removed sensor pads, and I was just lying in bed without any electrical monitoring happening. Getting nearer to the last straw.... his morning meds and insulin shots are ready, but he has to take the ones from the hospital instead??? Only reason I can think is so hospital can charge us/insurance to make more money I'm beyond furious at this point. Will be happy to never come back to this hospital, unless they fix their lack of communication issues and UNNECESSARY cost inflators. Hmmmm..... No, Dr whitecoat. Why are we having to re-explain everything again? And why do you keep downplaying our medical history and what we tell you? Horrible bedside manner Finally, a new set of ears who actually HEARS us. She was a needed refresher in this ordeal. Wheeling patients through cafeteria!?!? Issues with health codes, maybe? O.R. Doctor wouldn't help us sit up, even with the back issues, and pained look on my face. SMH ‍ told to go to waiting area. I write this on March 26th , had a massive heart attack Jan, 23rd 2024. Finally called me today for cardiac rehab, the call was from Durant Oklahoma, live one and half hours north of Tulsa. I had to have an emergency second stint two weeks after the Jan 23rd heart attack. Waited in an absolutely filthy room until the heart Dr. could preform procedure. The peeling paint not to bad, but the blood and other fluid stains on the ceiling were disgusting, Had the procedure then waited in the recovery for a room for over 7 hours then the non English speaking doctor showed and explained they had lost me. On top of all that I told them 5 times that they need to bill the VA, they went so far as to send a financial responsibility person in to see me during my first stay, gave them the VA authorization etc and I still get billed. I finally called the VA and I am sure they will get them squared away. Oh on the second stent I checked my self out after waiting for a room with zero food or drink for over 7 hours in recovery did I mention that when I was wheeled in on a gurney everyone I observed was head down on a smart phone, that certainly inspires confidence.. I came here to the emergency center because i had internal bleeding and couldn't move so they moved me up too intensive care level . I wasn't happy that the rooms were so hot and muggy and it took them over a day to find me a fan so i could breathe and sleep . mostly the other services up there was good until i got dropped down to the fifth floor where i had to share a room with another guy who smelled really bad. The nurses where for the most part friendly and helpful and the food was pretty decent. Sometimes it was hard to figure out what the problems where because we were getting different stories and the Doctor's weren't good at explaining things in laymen's terms. I wouldn't recommend this hospital for intensive care or inpatient services. read more

They may be awesome and I love my doctor but I won't use them. Every time I go there it guarantees that my bill will end up in collection because they won't do any other arrangement that 4 or 6 payments plus I get bills from 6 different areas and none of them want to work you on amounts. I'm sorry I can't pay each of you $300 a month if I could I wouldn't need to do payment arrangements. The lady on the phone flat said I could pay what I want but it going to go to collections anyway because it's not in their guidelines. My Sister had to go to ER due to shortness of breath. She ended up in the holding pattern of 13 ambulances waiting to bring in their patients. My sister is blind and in a unfamiliar and uncompassionate environment. No one cared to understand. It seemed, though that they were trying to help me. EKG, XA and all came back clear. Then a cat-scan which showed pneumonmia and COPD. was when they admitted me. I Spent the night among the 30 waiting rooms. 'Now once in my own room, a lady hollers all night long, then moved me off that floor which was a cardiac floor to a" med surge room. Again I am blind and it seemed the hospital attendants could not GET that I needed extra help. Finally someone put a sign over my bed saying She is BLIND." When they delivered meals to room, they would come in to the room drop the tray off and leave. They didnt tell me the food was there. I couldnt set up the tray and battled with the plastic tops and was unbelievable frustrated with their lack of sensitivity. I was there 7 days and was never offered a bath or shower, no one offered one and had to beg to get my bed changed and no body cared, two days later cookie crumbs in bed....no one cared!" They were dreadfully understaffed. one nurse tech had 17 patients. I was told "you cant stay here" from a discharge planner, who said I was mocking her, but I told her Im blind and scared to death....she continued with 1) - go to a nursing home for a week or we can send you home with one tank of portable oxygen. Again being blind, they dumped me into a taxi who took me home with the promise that someone would be their to meet me with my medications and more oxygen and concentrator. The Only tank I had was empty by morning and I , BLIND, could not see the tank was out. Once they delivered the concentrator, I was now again able to breathe. They did not bring a pulse ox, and I still needed a talking pulse ox. Why didnt they bring that knowing I was BLIND. The feeling of outrage about all this is at that hospital and the internment there was like being in a bad movie! They moved things around in my room so I couldnt find the bedside comode. ITs these little things that yell out to me I DONT CARE ABOUT YOU! No sensitivity. I wouldnt treat my worst enemy the way they treated a blind person. At what part of "I cant see to do that, I need help", cant you get!!! After reading all these horror stories about HILLCREST/KILLCREST. Take another look at other hospitals in Tulsa. Sounds like a Boris Karloff movie. My sister deserved quality care and it is getting around that if you are a medicare recipient you get the worst treatment in any hospital. read more

I called and spoke to the supervisor about my previous stay and the things that were done on the last day of my visit. They agreed that the last visit is what people will remember and she shouldn't have been so rude about my discharge and meds for discharge. She stated this nurse would be disciplined for her behavior but I have no idea if this actually happened as I was never given any report on what happened after my discharge. I had no problems until my depression got so bad that I couldn't stay any longer. The phlebotomists were great and the PT's were great!!!! I think some of my post op mobility issues were made worse by the hospital not following through with the orders from the doctor on therapy and then waiting over a month to get the therapy started. I recommend the women's center as the place to have a baby in Tulsa. Hillcrest Medical Center is the ONLY baby friendly hospital in Tulsa. The staff were friendly and courteous and always put the baby first. Look up "baby friendly" If you are looking for a hospital that promotes: breastfeeding, skin to skin and general bonding with the baby. My son was also in the NICU and the staff there were so nice and were sweet to me. read more

I cannot speak for every nurse and Dr because clearly that's unfair however my father was taken by EMSA to Hillcrest for what they were claiming was alcohol. We rushed up because he's had several strokes and alcohol isn't a problem. I spoke to three separate ER nurses and the Dr that saw him for about 5 minutes about his recent strokes and how he's acting EXACTLY like he does when he has them. They both continued to talk about how he appeared drunk. Most people who can't speak and slur probably do but SO DO stroke patients. They refused an MRI/CT scan I suggested and sent him home. We took him straight to St John's where within 30 min they had his scans done and he had had another stroke within the last week or so. Thanks so much Hillcrest. St. John's saved my dads life but Hillcrest dismissed him as if he were trash. When they ask where you want to go,never say to that hospital. read more

My husband and I spent 21 hours in the emergency room. It was a total nightmare. My husbands doctor ordered him to go to this hospital for test. No one at the emergency area were told about any of this. We waited in the waiting room for 8 hours. Then when we finally got back to the examination room, it was blood work and several hours of waiting and several different doctors asking why he was there. His blood work results didn't warrant him being in the emergency room. They were going to admit him when they got a bed for him. By the next day, we just wanted to leave. We hadn't had anything to drink or eat until I asked for something for my husband. The things we saw were just disturbing, to say the lease. We decided when the last doctor released us, we will never set foot back in that hospital again. read more

The staff on on the 4th floor were exemplary. I could not have had a more professional team if I had hand picked them myself! Margarita, Zac , Lexie, Katie, just to name a few. The physical therapy staff and the cleaning crew were amazing professionals under extraordinary circumstances. I felt well cared for during my sevens day stay. I highly recommend the hospital on Utica and 11th Street for hip replacement or knee surgery for anyone in the future. These amazing humans will take great care of you. We came home to my grandmother being unresponsive. My aunt and I followed the ambulance to the hospital. They have made a rule of only one visitor per day and it has to be the same one. After I have been sitting in the waiting room for 45min, they tell me I have to leave. I have no vehicle and am out of state. This isn't taking "Covid precautions". It's bullying. I've already been in there waiting too long for it to matter now. read more
