This is the second time that I have used Hillis when I had a homeowner's claim. Before this I had used Hillis personally a couple times so when my church suffered damage due to a wind event, I suggested that we call them. I'm really glad i decided to call Hillis. Thought I didn't have a big enough claim for an adjuster to get involved when I had a break in, but i called and Hillis was happy to help. They recovered so much more money than I knew was possible. They were really fiendly and professional too. I contacted Hillis for a water leak issue in my condo. They were referred to me by a friend. I'm very glad I had the team at Hillis handling my case with the insurance company instead of doing it myself. This place is a scam. They made more money off my loss than I received to fix it. They claim they get 20-25% per claim but with shifty accounting it comes out to be closer to 60%. The "adjuster" caused damage that the insurance company would not repair because it was OBVIOUS it was not caused by the incident. I had to constantly call them to get my money and even when they finally cut a check it was the wrong amount. Had to show them the math and do the accounting for them to get anything out of them. RIDICULOUS business practices. Im with Dollar B on lawyering up. Thanks for making the incidence a worse experience than it needed to be Hillis. p.s. The total payout for my incident was $5800 and change. I saw $2100 to do the repairs that cost over $6000 to have done. I have used a Public Adjuster before and was very happy This is an awful agency. Big talk, no follow through. It took months before the claim was settled and they farmed the work out to another company that they are associated with who took a huge amount of the claim, with no cost approval by us! When we hire contractors, we usually get a few quotes and check references, but had no opportunity with this company. Called to complain about quality of job and was promised that someone would contact me to discuss. No one ever called back. Original adjuster left job prior to completion. This place was horrible. We eventually got our money about six months later. Communication was terrible, we had no idea what was going on. At points I wasn't even sure if we were actually going to get our money. I had really wished we had just gone straight through the insurance Company. I cannot say enough in regard to the entire amazing staff at Hillis. While my area was under the wrath of damage from extreme and rare horrific storms, my issue was from a pipe leak, and compared to what others were dealing with, Hillis did not treat me as though, I was a minor issue, but lets face it no water leak is ever a minor issue. Someone was out within 24 hours, to assess, the clean up crew, who were also amazing, within 36 and from Lynette to Paul, they have kept in touch, every step of the way. For that fact, they took on "the man", aka the insurance company, as my adjuster just did not feel as though the claim award was enough to do what needed to be done and to put us at he level of repair, to restore back to the original format and not have to cut corners.
